This is the first time since I’ve been a subscriber that my Ipsy bag doesn’t have a specific theme. It came with a card with just the date. On the back of the card was a list of three products on which you can get 30% cash back if you purchase them through Ipsy. One of the products is a fave of mine, Coola Organic Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 travel size, but truth be told, the cash back thing isn’t very enticing especially on a travel size purchase.
But that bag itself is adorbs: shimmery, aqua holo made from soft, coated fabric-plastic. Very pretty.
What’s in the bag?
- La Beauté Fatale Lipstick, shade Vibrate, full size: I’m not familiar with this cruelty-free brand, but I was happy to get a full size lipstick. The shade is a bright magenta, and on their website they call it, “Beauty Box Exclusive Lipstick”. When I was a blonde in the 1980s, this is the kind of shade I wore often. Since becoming a redhead, not so much. Nevertheless, I need to expand my horizons, and Vibrate seems like a fun summer shade. I like it. In fact, I wore it right away. It covered well in one swipe, it’s super pigmented, and after dinner there was still quite a bit on my lips though I had to reapply to even it out. It contains vitamin E, and with a semi-matte finish, it’s comfortable to wear. Thumb’s up! I was surprised to discover that the MSRP on this lipstick is $28.
- Fluff eyeshadow makeup brush from IBY Beauty, full size: I did a review a couple of years ago on a very pretty eyeshadow palette in shades of green from cruelty-free, affordable brand, IBY Beauty. (Now where did I put that palette? I love green!) The brush’s dome-shape synthetic bristles feel super soft. I’m always happy to get another makeup brush in my Ipsy bag. $8
- theBalm Nude Beach eyeshadow single, shade Bodacious, full size single that’s part of a larger palette: I love theBalm, but I haven’t bought anything from them in a long time. So I am happy to get this matte single from the Nude Beach palette in a rust brown shade. Nice.
- Feel Restored Self Warming Clay Mask from Feel Beauty, travel size: I absolutely love the pumpkin-walnut exfoliating cleanser I got in an Ipsy bag last fall from Feel Beauty, so I was happy to see this skincare product. But on closer inspection, I noticed it’s a clay mask. I don’t use clay masks very often because I have such dry skin. I thought maybe I’d put this in the giveaway pile, but then I decided I will try this after a jog on a hot day or long day working in the garden when I might appreciate “pore opening and deep cleansing”.
- AHAVA Time to Clear Facial Mud Exfoliator, travel size: I like products from AHAVA with Dead Sea mud and minerals, but because of the word “Clear” twice on the tube, I thought maybe this was for someone with acne or at least oilier skin than mine. Maybe this will go in the giveaway pile.
My thoughts on the July Ipsy bag? I’m really happy with the lipstick, makeup brush and matte eyeshadow single from theBalm – and the fact that they’re full size products is a plus. I like both brands of skincare, but I am wondering why Ipsy sent me, with my dry skin, two different mud exfoliators? Didn’t they look at my survey? Probably not. In spite of the skincare fail, I still like the bag since I’ll use 3 of the products and try a fourth. Plus it’s worth well over the $10 I paid.

This month the bag was definitely worth the money. I was shocked to get two full size items in mine – a Smashbox concealer and a light blue nail polish. They did right by me this month.

I think I’d be most excited for the eye shadow and the brush. The constant non-matching of my profile and getting some samples that were foil packets is why I cancelled my Ipsy. I hope your August bag is better.
I was really OK with the bag this month because I love the MU bag and the 3 makeup items. A definite FU with the skincare products, but it was OK.

I adore the Nude Beach palette – the best from theBalm, I call it – and that brush looks really nice. The rest don’t really wow me, but these two make it all worthwhile.
I’m glad to hear that the entire Nude Beach palette is a good one. I haven’t bought anything from theBalm in a long time. I’ll keep my eye out for it during their next 50% off sale.
I like that lipstick shade, but I’m more into the liquid version. For me it’s easier to apply.
It’s great that lipstick comes in so many different forms and finishes these days so we can choose the ones we prefer. I’m mostly a regular lipstick and opaque gloss fan for my super dry lips.
