Ipsy Hello Spring Glam Bag March 2016

Yesterday I showed off my new Birchbox, and today is ipsy’s turn. How is it that I lucked out with two great boxes this month?

ipsy’s theme is Hello Spring, very apt. But I was surprise that the pretty pastel colors on the postcard didn’t really go with the fabulous spring green bag with the orange stylized roses. Probably I’m the only person who noticed that  🙄

Speaking of the makeup bag, it must have been designed to go perfectly with my house. I adore green and orange, and the bag coordinates so well with my great room and kitchen. I know most people don’t match their makeup bags to their house, but I’m different that way!

I’m thrilled with the contents of my Hello Spring bag! Here’s what I got:

Although I like Marc Anthony haircare, I am literally drowning in haircare products. So this travel size 50 ml tube of anti frizz 3 Day Smooth will go in the giveaway pile. The rest of the bag I’ve already used, and I just got it yesterday!

The Pixi Blush Duo and the Mannakadar eyeshadow, both in rose gold shades, are perfect for me! Love ’em. The Mannakadar shadow (I think I got a cream shadow from that brand last month) is a powder but it is so creamy, it feels like cream. I love it. And I love that the Pixi highlighter and blush are muted shades. I prefer my highlighter and blush to be subtle and these are perfect.

The NYX Liquid Suede lipstick is one I’ve been dying to try. In spite of the fact that I usually avoid matte and especially matte liquids because they dry out my lips, this one is NOT DRYING!! I wondered about the name of the shade, LSCL. I had to look the acronym up because I had no idea. Let Sleeping Corpses Lie. It was a movie. I missed it. Anyway, those corpses must have had bright fuchsia lips! This is one bright lipstick. I wish it coordinated with the eyeshadow and blush duo, but it wants to do its own thing. I’ll have fun wearing this in the summer.

Here are the swatches over bare skin:

I wasn’t quite as excited about the nail buffer at first. But I tried it a little while ago, and it’s terrific. It’s a soft, bendable file that smooths and buffs the nail top with one side, and with the other white side, it shines them.

I’m not sure of the value of the bag because some of the products seem to be special for the ipsy bag, but it’s clearly worth more than $10 with the NYX lippie and nail buffer alone!

I’m so happy with my Hello Spring ipsy bag. If you’re in the mood to take the plunge and subscribe, I’d be even happier if you’d use my referral code to get your own ipsy bag for $10/month delivered in the US (extra for shipping to Canada).

If you already subscribe, what did you get in your ipsy bag?

  1. I love all of NYX’s lip colors! They’re the best!

    1. Yes, I agree, Chelsea. I’ve been after NYX Liquid Suede in Vintage for about 8 months and haven’t been able to find it. Glad to get to try out LSCL

  2. Mine is pretty good too and has been good since November last year ever since I narrowed down my quiz to makeup and tools only. I’m getting the NYX lip cream, Nudestix (swapping for Illamasqua eye liner), Luxie brush, Be a Bombshell Baked Bronzer and some stupid face cream. Overall, a pretty good bag with the exception of the face cream.

    1. I didn’t know, Shireen, that you could specify only makeup and tools! Hmmm, although I do like getting some skincare products from time to time, I wish I didn’t get quite as much. And though I have discovered some stellar haircare products from Birchbox, I get too much haircare. I’m going to modify my ipsy survey and get rid of haircare entirely and see if that helps. I wish I got the Nudestix and Illamasqua because I’ve never tried those brands, but I genuinely love my bag this month!

    2. Rachel Runyan says:

I tried narrowing down my quiz like that, but Ipsy still insists on sending me nail and hair stuff.

      1. The woman who told me she changed her quiz is Canadian, and she said it helped though from time to time, they throw in an occasional skincare product. Sorry to hear that it didn’t work. Oh well. I’ll muddle along with more haircare products!

  3. I love the bag!!!! I think that you really got a nice selection, notwithstanding yet another hair product, Your swatches are gorgeous, and WOW– is the NYX lippie ever saturated!

    1. The NYX lippie is so bright, I need sunglasses to wear it, lol. Hopefully in the summer it’ll be OK. But I did want to try the NYX liquid lipstick so I was happy for the chance though a different shade would’ve suited me better. The eyeshadow and the blush duo are both fabulous! And the bag is one of my all time ipsy favorites. Two good bags this week!!

  4. Oh, that NYX though! I got mine and haven’t had a chance to even open it!

    1. I like the NYX lippie but I wish I got the darker shade that Nidia said she got in her bag. This one is soooooooo bright!

  5. I got the same hair cream, and a different color of the NYX Suede – it’s darker, but I don’t know what it’s called. I would love that eye shadow and blush/highlight combo, but I’m glad you got it, what with your love of rose gold. I bet it looks amazing on you. Be careful with nail buffing – it’s easy to go overboard, and though the smooth, shiny effect is pretty, it’s thinning and damaging to the nails – especially if the nails are already thin, like mine! Better to use a ridge filler to get that smooth look. A pretty great bag, overall, though.
Nidia – Lit From Within recently posted…OIls for Leg Pain? #legcrampreliefMy Profile

    1. I never knew that, Nidia, about nail buffing! I’ve been doing it for years (from time to time) with the 6 sided nail files, but this one is two sided and much gentler – there isn’t a file side that grinds down the nail. Since I started using biotin, my nails are incredibly strong and they grow so fast I can hardly keep up with them.

  6. What a great bag! You always luck out with awesome products.

  7. The eyeshadow shade is awesome, definitely something I’d wear! I’m interesting in trying those NYX lippies out since I’ve been seeing them everywhere.

    1. I’ve been trying to buy the NYX Liquid Suede in Vintage since it came out but it’s always out of stock. Not a huge fan of the shade I got in my bag, but the formula is very nice. So happy it’s not drying.

  8. Wow, what a great box for the price. I love everything this month. I got that same Mannakadar rose gold and have used it almost daily as an eye shadow. Thanks for sharing!

    1. The pigmentation on this is insane!!

  10. I had no idea LSCL was even an acronym! It sounds kind of random to me. I would have thought it would be a pale nude color (kind of zombie-ish?), but the bright pink color IS pretty. Looks like this month was a great one for you! The Pixi blush and highlight duo looks like something I’d get a lot of use out of.

    1. I thought it might be random at first, but then I thought it could be an acronym. But like you, I thought it should be blue or gray or green…but fuchsia? Not that’s wrong! The eyeshadow and the blush are both something I’ll use all the time! Yay, ipsy!

  11. I am soooooo jealous of your bag! Great products! So, soooooo awesome! The only thing I would swap is the nail file duo because, well, I have like 90 of them!
Color Me So Crazy recently posted…Pacifica Hair Care System AND One of My Favorite VegetablesMy Profile

    1. My buffing nail file was sorta used up, so I actually can and already have used the Margaret Dabbs buffing file. Now that was a surprise! But the makeup I got was great!!

  12. I’m the total opposite of you. My bag is the opposite of my taste. I received a red NYX but I don’t wear red; a lavender hand cream but I hate the smell of lavender; a bronzer I won’t wear the nail file which at least is nice; and a black liquid eyeliner -black again.
Mine is being given away this Friday since I won’t use any of it.
I’m so glad you received some winners.

    1. Oh, darn. I’m sorry I used the pink NYX because I would have gladly swapped though I don’t know if you would use this bright fuchsia shade either! But I had wanted to try the formula anyway. I don’t do bronzer either. And I know you’re not a fragranced anything girl, so I can see how you would be very disappointed. Getting a nail buffer and another black liquid liner plus a bunch of other useless stuff isn’t good. Another blogger was saying she went back and redid her survey, and her bags have been more on target since doing that. Sorry to hear it, Marcia 🙁

  13. Rachel Runyan says:

The name of the Nyx color is actually on the side of the tube, and yours is Pink Lust. I got Kitten Heels, which I didn’t already have, so I was thrilled. Plus, it’s red! 🙂

I don’t really have a use for the nail buffer, as I don’t do my own nails. I thought it was too flexible, but maybe I just don’t understand how it should be used. It was weird to me.

I got the same eyeshadow and Pixi blush you got. My hair care item was some kind of volumizing product. I haven’t tried it yet.

    1. OMG, I can’t stop laughing, Rachel! thank you for telling me that the name of the NYX lippie is on the tube. My office is so darn dark that I didn’t see that. And I think it’s hysterical that I looked up LSCL as an acronym and it turned out to be a cult horror movie. Too funny. Glad you got Kitten Heels, the red one. I definitely would have preferred that color, but I’ll wear Pink Lust during the summer though it is super bright. Anyway, the nail buffer is very flexible but I find it gives my nail a better shine than the normal, more rigid ones. I hope you liked your bag!

      1. Rachel Runyan says:

LOL, the print is kind of tiny, too! I think LSCL is “Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick.” I think Pink Lust is beautiful, but I already had that one, so I’m glad not to have a received a repeat.

        1. Oh, Rachel, you are the best! Thanks for helping me out! Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick, of course! Although I think the zombie movie reference was kinda funny! Thank you 🙂

  14. I wanted a hot pink NYX lippie and got a super dark shade. It was more fall than spring heheh.

    1. Oh, boo! I’m wondering if Pink Lust is too bright for me, but hopefully in the summer it will be fine

  15. I also love the NYX matte, the other products all sound OK. The lipstick alone sounds like a worthy item for this month.

  16. Wow that’s a super bright lip! I gotta agree with you on the branding for the bag, it’s a bit of a mishmash of colors between the card and the bag

    1. Yeah, someone made a mistake when they planned the postcard to mail with the bag. I’m hoping the lippie will look more appropriate in the summer than it does now. It reminded me of one of the L’Oreal Infallible shades that you showed. Kinda bright for me at least at this time of year.

  17. I love all the NYX lippies–good bag!

    1. I was glad to have a chance to try out the Liquid Suede lippy. I’d been on the hunt for the Vintage shade for months, but at least I got to try the formula. Very nice

  18. The Marc Anthony cream sounds lovely, but I think I prefer the Birchbox you got. I gave up Ipsy finally in December – for now; I’ll get back once my weak will is overcome.

    1. I’ve actually been doing pretty well with ipsy for the past year or so. And the rose gold makeup from ipsy is great for me. But I like the Smashbox Trio and the hair oil and the Kiehl’s from Birchbox. I’m happy to have two good boxes this month!

  19. LSCL is so pretty!

    1. Rachel showed me that the name is Pink Lust/Passion Rose. I am laughing so hard that I looked up LSCL, thinking the “name” was an acronym, and I came up with a zombie movie. Didn’t occur to me that it stood for Liquid Suede Creme Lipstick!!

  20. That bag is beautiful!

  22. I totally wanted one of the NYX lippies! That one is gorgeous! Sigh…

    1. I try not to look at the ipsy choices before I get my bag, because I get so disappointed if I don’t get something I really want. (I’m a sore loser, lol) I’ve wanted to try the Liquid Suede lipstick for ages so I was glad to have an opportunity to try it out. Truth be told, I think Pink Lust is a little too bright for me, but hopefully it will work better in the summer when I wear brighter clothing.

  23. That bag is so cute and I would have enjoyed the contents of this one, a great deal.

        1. It’s always the way, Laura! I think my March bag was good but the Sephora bag was meh for me. Birchbox this month was meh, but I’ll write it up when I get back anyway. The Davines shampoo & conditioner samples I got in it ended up being great on the trip!
