Ipsy Plus April 21 “Force of Nature”

I had a meltdown because something was screwed up with the customizing of my Ipsy Plus bag for April. Usually I get an email reminding me to pick my products for my next bag. Somehow I didn’t get that reminder email in late March or early April. So I went to the Ipsy website myself during the days that we can customize, but I got an unusual message on the website and I wasn’t able to pick my products. I don’t remember what the message was, but it let me to believe that I was too early to choose my products. So I went back a second time a couple of days later, and it appeared I was too late. What gives?

I was annoyed, and I contacted Customer Support about it. Someone responded to me with a canned reply. Now I was more annoyed, so I gave the reply a “poor” grade, and I wrote back again saying they didn’t address what happened. Several days went by, and I got another reply from the same person. At least this time, the person said he/she didn’t really know what happened (at least they were honest) and they gave me some Ipsy points that I can redeem for a free product in the future. Nice.

Nevertheless, I was still concerned that I would get a bag of awful stuff that I didn’t want. I managed to forget that for years, Ipsy chose all the products I received in my Plus Bag, and I was mostly very satisfied with it all.

My April “Force of Nature” Ipsy Plus Bag arrived at the end of last week, and I worried for nothing. I was delighted with just about everything about it. The drawstring bag was very cute. It was made of a cottony fabric, and the colorful, mid-century design was cheerful and fun.

Here’s what I got in the bag:

  • Item Overdew Xtra Intensive Moisturizer For Dry Skin: This pump tube of rich but totally non-sticky gel-cream moisturizer is a perfect night cream for my dry skin. I love it! One of my favorite items in the bag. At $20, this moisturizer for dry skin is a steal.

  • Pixi by Petra Flawless Beauty Primer: This Pixi primer is a medium-“flesh tone” illuminating primer (above photo) that when rubbed in leaves just the shimmer behind (see the photo with the moisturizer and serum swatches; it’s beneath them). It gives skin a glow on its own and a slight glow under foundation. It’s a nice primer. It sort of reminds me of BECCA’s Illuminating Primers. However, I am hooked on Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer, so I will either leave this at Jeff’s house to use when I’m there or I will give it away. $22

  • Belle en Argent Panchromatic Palette, shade Nude Intuitive Vision: Although I got another Belle Argent Shadow Palette in my bag last month, I was happy to receive another. The gorgeous silver palette itself is worth it. But I also love the cool-tone neutral shades in mattes and shimmers. In fact, I used it on Friday when I put on my makeup to go out for my bday dinner. $30
  • Shaina B Eye Makeup Brush Set: Although I would not have chosen this brush set, since I have another one that I haven’t used yet as well as my own eye makeup brushes, I can’t complain. They are good quality brushes, and I will probably work them in. They are purchased individually on the Shaina B Miami website. $60

I guess I freaked out for nothing. My April Ipsy Plus Bag valued at $217 was certainly worth the $25 I paid for it. I will use all of the products, and they were appropriate for me. Maybe I should go back to letting Ipsy choose for me? What do you think?

By now the world knows about Ipsy and subscriptions, and some people seem to be unsubscribing since the novelty has worn off. But as a blogger, my subscription still introduces me to new brands I might not have heard about otherwise and gives me a chance at a deep discount to try products I might not have spent the money on. If you’re interested in subscribing or resubscribing to Ipsy, I hope you’ll click here to use my referral code. 🙂

  1. What a frustrating experience, Allison! While in the end you need up with a nice bag that doesn’t change the fact that you were forced to go through all of that!

Stopping by to say Hello. Enjoying you blog. Nothing new here. Haven’t been in Ulta or Sephora for over a year. Been enjoying my crafting and gardening. Our Desert Tortoise 🐢 Shelly is wide awake from her hibernation. But it’s cold and rainy here today. Hope all is going well for you Allison.

    1. So happy to hear from you, DiEtta! How wonderful to hear that Shelly has re-emerged from her winter nap and is toddling around your garden again! On Monday, I went to both Ulta and Sephora for the first time in well over a year because I wanted to get my birthday gifts. I think it must have been school vacation because I was surprised at how many young women there were in the store. Fortunately, it still wasn’t that hard to avoid people. Sorry that today was a cold and rainy day for you. It was here too, but at 68 degrees we considered it warm in spite of the rain. I went to the special Monet exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston today – the first time I was there since March 5, 2020. It was wonderful. I am trying to get myself back into crocheting, but since I had cataract surgery and I am now far-sighted, it is less pleasurable for me which is really sad. I will give it a go again because I am in the middle of a shawl that I should finish. Hope that all is well for you and your family, and hope the sun returns soon!

I am so thrilled that you had a good Ipsy month!!!! You deserve one for sure!!! As for me… well, I got the Nue Serum also, but mine was clearly expired – thick, sticky, wouldn’t even come out of the dispenser. In addition, I received a different set of brushes that had such a strong chemical smell that I became dizzy. Threw those away. Thank heavens next month is Glam Bag X!!!!

    1. That is absolutely horrendous and unacceptable! I am so angry to hear that, Gabrielle. Are you going to contact them? The Nue Serum that I got was so terrific. It is completely awful that an $85 serum was expired and/or unusable. They should send you another one, pronto. The Shaina B brushes were decent, good quality. So sorry that sent you bad ones. Will you contact them about this? They darn well better send you the world’s best X bag in May!!

      1. Gabrielle says:

I most certainly did email them and a replacement product is on its way. Here’s hoping it’s the same serum in proper condition! I am eagerly awaiting my X Bag. The first one was phenomenal!

        1. I can hardly wait to find out what you get in the May X bag! And I hope the replacement for The Nue Co. Serum works out because it is truly an excellent product, and I think you would like it

I am so excited about my X Bag! The replacement for the serum is supposed to arrive in a few days.

          2. LMK what you think! I hope they get it right this time xo

  4. This is an excellent bag. I think the mixup was a gift to you.

Yikes I’m sorry about the panic about it. I’m glad you were able to get it in the end though!

  6. Yikes, I am so sorry to hear about your bad experience with Ipsy CS. Looks like you got a great bag though! I received The Nue serum in my bag too and it’s one of my favorite finds!
