Ipsy Plus Bag October 2019 “Flaunt It”

Ipsy made a couple of changes to their Plus box.

First, they allow you to choose one of your products now. To be honest, I don’t think I’ll bother next month. I don’t like to know what the products are in advance. Plus I’m not 100% sure, but I think the products that I was able to choose from were all the products I got anyway. Weird.

Second, they re-instituted the Ipsy makeup bag. Since they call this subscription Ipsy Glam Bag Plus, I guess maybe there should be a bag, or else maybe they should just change the name to Ipsy Plus Box. Anyway, this month they sent a makeup bag. It’s very cute. It’s larger than the regular Ipsy makeup bag since it holds full size products.

The bag has black matte sequins on one side.

The other side has faux black leather with a red silhouette of Betty Boop in the lower right along with a B with two hearts in it. It also has a red heart pull on the zipper. This month, Ipsy Plus has several Betty Boop exclusive themed products so that’s why Betty Boop on the bag.

So what did I get in the “Flaunt It” bag this month? Let’s take a look.

cosmetic items in my October 2019 Ipsy Plus bag

  • Touch in Sol No Poreblem Priming Water: I loved the mini version of Touch in Sol foundation that I got in a Sephora Play bag a couple of years ago, but I haven’t tried anything else from this Korean brand. When I saw the No Poreblem Priming Water, I must say I was confused by it. Also because pores are not a problem for me, I wondered if I needed this. But after reading about it, I am now intrigued. Here’s the description on the Touch in Sol website: “Leave your skin feeling fresh and hydrated all day with our No Poreblem Priming Water. Our Priming Water is the perfect finishing touch to your skin routine or first step before applying makeup. Bulgarian damask rose oil combines with rose water to lock in moisture and give your skin a beautiful glow.” You can use it as the last step after skincare or mix a couple of drops in with foundation. I will try it soon and report back. I don’t know if this will be enough of a foundation primer for me, but it sounds like a good way to add hydration. $23

  • Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Age-Defying Exfoliator: I know so many people swear by prestige clinical skincare brand, Dr. Brandt, and swear by the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion. But I am not one of them. Somehow I haven’t found a Dr. Brandt skincare product that suits my skin, and microdermabrasion crystals are too abrasive for my semi-sensitive skin. So I will have a giveaway and give this to someone who will appreciate it. $79

  • F.A.R.A.H. Midnight PRO Brushes set of 3 face brushes: Vegan, cruelty-free brushes with soft bristles and tapered handles for applying blush, highlighter, powder, and foundation. I can always use extra brushes. $48
  • Lovecraft Beauty Blush Palette: This was the product that, after much deliberation, I picked for my Ipsy Plus bag. The shades are warm-toned rose tone, apricot tone and deep rose. (There is a cover over the pans to protect them, and I left it on.) The palette has a nice big mirror. While the shades are beautiful, I really don’t wear powder blush; I prefer cream blush on my dry skin. Though I am tempted to try them because the colors are so darn pretty, I know I should give this away along with the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion to someone who will wear it all the time. $39

  • Betty Boop x Ipsy That’s So Betty Eyeshadow Palette: This shadow palette is an Ipsy exclusive. I actually love this palette, and I think I may take it with me to Philadelphia this weekend. What’s so great about it for me is that it has a terrific assortment of my kind of “neutrals”. It has a mix of mattes and shimmers that are super pretty. Shades include rose gold shimmer, copper shimmer, pale violet shimmer, raspberry matte, peach matte, dove grey matte, and gunmetal shimmer. The palette case is made from sturdy plastic, and it has a big mirror. Yet the size of the palette, about 3″ x 4″, makes it great for travel. This was my surprise winner in this month’s bag. $30

The value of this month’s bag is $219, and I paid $25 plus sales tax required in Massachusetts. I’m laughing because the most expensive product, Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion, is the one I will definitely give away. Stay tuned while I decide if I should include the Lovecraft Beauty Blush Palette. 😉

While this may not be the favorite of all my Ipsy Plus bags, I think there are still some good discoveries and several usable products. But another reason I love Ipsy is being able to buy products at greatly reduced prices. I bought two extras this month:

  • Sigma E25 Blending Blush: Can you believe I had never tried any Sigma brushes? And the E25 Blending Brush is one that many people mention as a favorite. So for $5 or something close to that, I definitely had to take advantage of this! Terrific buy since it’s usually $16.

  • Benefit They’re Real Mascara Mini: They’re Real continues to be one of my favorite mascaras because I adore the brush. It is the best brush ever for separating lashes. I paid $3 for this $13 mascara. Perfect!

Curious to find out what you think about the return of the makeup bag? What do you think about choosing one of the products?

  1. It’s too bad that the most expensive product in the bag is one that you won’t use. It’s still a really good value. The problem with gift bags is that no matter how great the value, it doesn’t matter if you won’t use the products included in the bag.

    1. I’ve been so happy with just about every Ipsy Plus box since I switched to the full size product box that it’s OK if I won’t use this. I hope it will make someone else happy if I use it for a giveaway 🙂

I love the blush set. I wasn’t too excited when I saw it in my ipsy bag but I love the colors and they go on smooth.I don’t like dark blush on me and these are my skin but better colors. I’m not a huge Dr.brandt fan either but I do like this product?I just don’t scrub with it. Overall I’m pretty happy ipsy although I struggle with choosing an item, especially if they’re both either great or unknown…what to choose. Thanks for the review Allison.xo

    1. Oh, I’m glad to know that the Lovecraft blush set is a good one, Laura! I think the shades are gorgeous. I am such a creature of habit, preferring cream blushes because I just apply them with my finger. So now I think I will feel even more confident giving the blush set away in a giveaway along with the Dr. Brandt microdermabrasion. I really would love them to go to someone who will use and enjoy them. I’ve had such good luck with my Ipsy boxes that I don’t mind giving away a couple of items. I am glad you are enjoying Ipsy Plus as well. I think it’s an amazing deal! Like you, I had a hard time choosing my item this month, too. I did pick something – I don’t even remember what it was – but I did it. I hope they’ll have a survey or something about that. But I took the makeup bag with me on our weekend getaway to Philadelphia, and I love the size of it – it was so perfect!
