Ipsy Plus Dream It Bag for January 2021

I Bought This, Affiliate Links

Although the drawstring powder blue ombre “Dream It” bag is cute, I must admit I am underwhelmed by my Ipsy Plus bag for January. The choices I was given for this bag were so lackluster that I had a hard time choosing. But here we are.

Billion Dollar Brows Kit: I remember BDB was a big brand a few years ago when substantial brows became a thing. The kit includes a scissor, tweezers and a double ended brush/spoolie tool. This was one of the Ipsy-chosen items, so I had no choice in getting it. I guess I can use these items, but they are not exciting. $56

Firma Eyeshadow Brushes, 2: I don’t remember choosing these brushes from Firma, a Japanese, vegan and cruelty-free brand, but Ipsy says I did. They are fine, and I can always use more synthetic, cruelty-free, soft eyeshadow brushes. But again, not exciting. $28

Pixi by Petra Hydrating Milky Serum: Although I have a million serums, at this time of year I can alway use another hydrating facial serum. I tried it today, and though I wasn’t able to get the dropper to work correctly, it was milky, silky and hydrating. It’s nice. $24

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Volumizing Mascara: I guess I would say this was the item that I was most interested in trying because I usually love ABH makeup. So far, I have only used it once. The shade is deep, dark, blackest black, and it looks a little harsh on me.

I am not a fan of the hourglass shape of the wand probably because I don’t understand what the point of that shape is. The shorter bristles in the middle always seem to miss my longest lashes, so it requires lots of angling and rebrushing. Ugh. The outer bristles make my outer lashes stick together. I need to try it again and see if I can make it work better. However, this is not the type of mascara I would try if I had my druthers. $25

Maria Nila Stockholm Curlicue Cream: Now this item really made me laugh when I opened my Ipsy bag. Since getting my cataracts done last year, I have trouble seeing closeup if I’m not wearing readers. When I was selecting my items for this bag, there was really nothing I wanted and Ipsy doesn’t let you skip the month at the last minute. So I chose what I thought was “cuticle” cream. Imagine my surprise when I opened the bag and found “Curlicue” Cream for curly hair. I will ask my friend Miriam if she would like it, or else I will use it as a giveaway product. $33

Although the total this month of my Ipsy Plus bag is $166, the value just wasn’t there for me. In fact, I intend to rate this bag a 2 out of 5. I’m hoping that Ipsy will do better with the choices I am given. If not, a change will be warranted.

In the past, the February/Valentine’s bag was a good one, so I will wait to see if Ipsy will redeem itself for me next month. If not, I will switch to an “every other month” subscription or unsubscribe for a while.

  1. While this isn’t a bad bag, it isn’t altogether exciting either.

    1. I’m curious to see if the February Vday bag is any better for me, and if not, taking a break would not be a bad thing. I could try a box or two from Boxwalla!

Definitely a downer. I can see why you’re thinking of cancelling. I’m still waiting for mine to arrive. The latest estimate is the 25th. *sigh*

    1. Yes, there was not one thing to be excited about, boo! But why is yours delayed till the 25th? Oh, I know, it is because of the perfume. It has to go by ground. Fingers crossed that you get it!! The bottle of Lancome perfume has still not arrived at the home of my giveaway winner, and I mailed it on 12/7.

I feel very lucky that there are exciting things on the way. I finally get to try some CBD skincare. I’m sure you’re right about the perfume being the reason for the delay. Gosh I am sorry about your perfume prize not arriving. Have you checked with the post office?

        1. Yes, I went to the post office where I mailed it, and the woman who runs it says she has no information that I don’t have (last tracking update was on 12/11). She gave me a phone number for the local Delivery Supervisor who was like talking to a stone. I went online and filed a report. Last Wednesday, I think, they sent me an email saying they will try to determine where it is and get back to me, but nothing yet. The woman who won is being so unbelievably nice about it, but I feel terrible. I will probably call my contact at Lancome who I don’t know well at all and ask her if they might be able to provide another bottle, even though it wouldn’t be the beautiful holiday bottle. I still am holding out hope that the original bottle will show up! But I have put off doing any more giveaways until the Biden administration comes in and has time to address what’s been going on at the USPS. On another topic, I have tried CBD skincare, and I especially adore the Derma E CBD Cleanser (the serum and moisturizer are good too), but I am not sure that I can tell what the CBD actually does. It is supposed to help calm sensitive or stressed skin, but I don’t really have either it just seems like good skincare to me. I will be eager to hear what you think!!

OMG! This really brings home the terrible things DeJoy has done to the USPS because I never had such a difficult time with them! I am so sorry! How horrible for you and the winner!

Just got my Glam Bag Plus. You can read about my “delight” here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CKaAb1lFJCI/
My ability to refrain from profanity should win me some sort of medal.

        1. You were very restrained. I hope you will contact customer service and complain, and ask specifically for what you would like them to do to make up for it. Keep me posted

          1. Gabrielle says:

I contacted them. They claim they will be sending me a replacement bag but that it may or may not contain items I actually want.

          2. Fingers crossed that you get something decent. If Ipsy was smart, they would send you something special to make up for the loss. LMK what happens!

  3. Great value but not exciting. The brow products are good ones at least.

    1. Yes, a good total price but not too thrilling. Even though Billion Dollar Brows makes a quality product, I can’t say I needed another pair of tweezers, scissors and spoolie. Oh well! Once I see what the February bag is, I may give it a rest for a while. Thank you for commenting, Marcia! I posted a link to your Sunday Scoop on Prime Beauty Blog on my post for tomorrow 🙂
