Ipsy “Volume Up” Glam Bag June 2017

I definitely view the passage of time by Ipsy bags. Yesterday, I received my “Volume Up” glam bag for June 2017. Fitting with the theme, the contents of my bag are primarily makeup! How could I disagree with that?

The bag is cute. It’s a waxed cottony fabric in beige with lighter beige polka dots with giant red lips in the middle, and a black bottom.

So what did I get?

makeup from ipsy Volume Up glam bag for June 2017, neversaydiebeauty.com

  • Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil, shade Matte Black: Who wants another black eye pencil? I do. I hadn’t tried MUFE’s Aqua XL pencils yet, and so far, I’m blown away by this one. It’s soft and easy to apply, and it doesn’t come off on my lower waterline when I tightline with it. The shade is black black black, very dark, and I love it. It’s waterproof so it’s perfect for summer. Pretty darn impressive so far! travel size, about $10 (full size $21)

  • Doucce Maxlash Volumizer Mascara: A couple of months ago, I got a pretty lavender shimmery eyeshadow from Doucce in my Ipsy bag, and I liked it. So I was eager to try their Maxlash Volumizer Mascara. The wand is on the big size with bristles and a flat top, similar to the Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara wand that I wrote about last week. I don’t love that flat tip because I find it hard to work with. The formula seems to have fibers in it so it can be a little clumpyish. It does volumize. I haven’t worn it long enough to see how it wears over time. travel size, about $11 (full size $22)

  • Luna Eyeshadow, shade Jace: Luna is a new-to-me brand. I received a powder eyeshadow single in a very pretty rosy peach shade. It goes on and blends easily. I only wear eyeshadow over primer, and it appears to wear well so far. I like it. full size, $15

  • NYX Whipped Fouette Lip & Cheek Souffle, shade, Plush: I hadn’t noticed this new lip and cheek multitasker from NYX, so it’s fun to try something new. It has the whipped, souffle consistency that some of their other lippies have but it’s not matte – it’s kind of hydrating. I had high hopes for the Plush, nude pink shade, but it’s actually too light for my lips. It’s a pretty cheek shade, but it doesn’t really show up or last that well. I’m enjoying playing with this, but I don’t know if I like it enough to buy it even in a shade that would show up more. full size, $6

  • Dr. Lill Fan Probiotic Recovery Cream: Another new-to-me brand. This is the first probiotic face cream I’ve ever tried so I’m curious about it. In addition to probiotics, it has peptides and vitamin C. Dr. Fan has real bonafides. It has a nice light gel-cream consistency that I like, but it has a very, very strong floral scent that I could definitely do without. Marcia, this is not for you! travel size, $22.67 (full size $68)

Final Assessment

I loved the fact that it was 4 makeup products and one prestige skincare product. There were 2 full size, and 4 travel size products. The contents of the bag were worth about $66.67 this month, and I paid $10. I’m satisfied! The MUFE AquaXL Eye Pencil will go right into my permanent rotation. In fact, I just used up a green eye pencil from Smashbox, and I wish MUFE had a similar shade because I like this formula better. I’m glad I got to try out the NYX Lip & Cheek Souffle, and I’ll use it up on both my lips and cheeks. I love the eyeshadow. I’m sure I’ll use the travel size mascara in my beach bag. Hopefully, I’ll be able to tolerate the scent of the Dr. Lill Fan Probiotic Recovery Cream in order to give it a fair shot.

As usual, if you don’t subscribe but would like to, I’d be grateful if you would use my referral code. Don’t forget, in addition to the contents of the bag, you get points for free stuff and you get a percent off (usually between 20-30% off) on the brands in the current and recent past bags!

If you already subscribe, what did you get in your Ipsy bag this month?

  1. I seriously love that MUFE pencil and the black one is the only one that I use to tight line and will repurchase forever so I’m happy to get that in my bag this month too! I find June product selections to be pretty boring, nothing really stood out for me.

    1. For me, the MUFE Aqua XL really stood out for me because that black eye pencil (of which I must have 20 other brands on hand) works so darn well! I want to pick up another shade next. But I also love the Luna Eyeshadow single that I got. It’s perfect for me! I wish the Dr. Lill Fan cream didn’t have such a strong scent because I love the feeling of the gel-cream itself – did you get it too?

      1. Nope, didn’t get it but I did opted out for skincare. I got the NYX, MUFE, Doucce mascara, Luna eyeshadow and Pure Brazilian oil. I know I won’t use the mascara because I got it through another sub before and it did nothing for my lashes and I am looking forward to the eyeshadow because you like it! 🙂

        1. I used the mascara again today, and though I still don’t love the flat top wand and it has a funky consistency that seems sort of like it has fibers suspended in it, my lashes actually came out well. I was at the hair salon and I threw it in my purse. I was afraid it might clump, but my lashes look good. Still, it wouldn’t be my first choice but I will use it anyway (said she with about 20 open mascaras)

  2. A cute bag, indeed! I would definitely say that this is not only a great value, but that the selection of products is really fantastic as well. MUFE makes amazing eyeliner pencils!

    1. You’re so right about the MUFE Aqua XL eye pencils. I need to get one in a color next!

  3. Thanks for the warning! I haven’t gotten my bag yet so it will probably be a while since it will have to be forwarded to me. I’ve had a like/hate relationship with the Doucce mascara – hated it at first, gave it a rest and liked it, but it died pretty quickly even though it was full size. I wouldn’t buy it but I’d wear it if I got it in my bag.

    1. Oh, it’s a pain when you’re moving and things have to be forwarded. I hope you get all your stuff in a timely manner. I haven’t had much experience with Doucce except for the eyeshadow single that I do like. The mascara seems to have fibers in the formula, and that’s not necessarily something I love, but I’ll try it out some more. I love my DiorShow and the new Lancome Monsieur Big that I just reviewed, but I still enjoy trying new mascaras but you never know!

  4. This is a pretty good bag. I love that MUFE pencil. Every month I keep saying I have to sign up and then I don’t!

    1. I hadn’t tried the MUFE Aqua XL pencil before, and it was a revelation for me. Now I need more! I am still a fan of ipsy coz I think their products have gotten better over time, and it gives me a chance to try out products I would never get the chance to try if I had to purchase them myself.

  5. I may have to try that NYX soufflé lippie! I love colors like that 😍

    1. The NYX Whipped Fouette feels so smooth and hydrating. It’s a pretty shade though a little too light for me, but it comes in lots of other shades so I may have to look at them

  6. Wow, for $10 you really got a ton of stuff- I thought at first you got all the pencils pictured, hehe! I am glad the eyeshadow works for you cause I thought it is a blush! Silly me! 😉

    1. The Luna Eyeshadow could certainly be a blush too, though the blush brush might have a hard time fitting in the shadow single!

  7. The eye shadow is pretty but I’ not impressed with the rest of the bag.

    1. The MUFE Aqua XL has become my new favorite tightline pencil. It doesn’t move. Have you tried it? I hadn’t, so it’s a revelation for me

    1. I wish the NYX Whipped Fouette were a little bit deeper in color. In the swatch, the shade looks perfect, but on my lips and cheeks it’s several shades lighter! What’s up with that?

  11. The contents look pretty great (I LOVE the bag!)but it’s too bad they didn’t give you a coloured MUFE liner. They have some really gorgeous shades.

    1. Yes, I wish they did, but actually this black is fab for tightlining. Love that it doesn’t come off on my lower waterline!

  12. I really liked mine this month and I just got the Iconic Edition one I bought from Sephora!

    1. The Iconic Edition – what is that?

      1. I got an email last week offering it for Sephora Play users! It was $20 and had some really nice stuff in it.

        1. Oh, I don’t think I got that offer. I hope you’ll write about it! I’d love to see what you got. My review of the June Sephora Play is up tomorrow, but I’m curious about what would be in a special bag.

  13. Amanda says:

I don’t get the Ipsy bags but this sounds like a great value and way to try new products!

    1. Exactly, Amanda. I get to try things that I would never be able to buy in full size, though the good part about ipsy is they give us full size products as well as samples.

  14. I have seen some of those lip and cheek souffle from another brand here in RSA, but i haven’t tried them out yet. I have to agree we tend to stay with products that we know etc. Next time i’m in a store i must give it a go – perhaps? It’s a pity it didn’t work for you.

    1. I was generally happy with my Ipsy bag stuff this month. It’s actually OK if something doesn’t work out because at least I got a chance to try it out before purchasing it at full price 🙂
