IT Cosmetics Reformulated Confidence in an Eye Cream: First Thoughts

IT Cosmetics was one of my favorite skincare brands. I loved their CC Cream, foundation, primer, Superhero Mascara, makeup brushes, and more. But as a blogger, I get to try lots of brands and products. I guess you could say my tastes are fickle.

What’s Been Going On with IT Cosmetics Over the Past Few Years

In 2019, IT Cosmetics founder, Jamie Kern Lima stepped down as CEO and sold her business to L’Oreal. Many people wondered how the sale to L’Oreal would affect IT’s cruelty-free status. From what I can tell, IT Cosmetics is still cruelty-free:

Is IT Cosmetics cruelty free? Are IT Cosmetics products tested on animals?

IT Cosmetics doesn’t test on animals and is 100% cruelty free.

  • IT Cosmetics finished products aren’t tested on animals by anyone, anywhere in the world
  • The ingredients used in their products are never tested on animals by anyone, anywhere in the world
  • Third parties never test IT Cosmetics products on animals
  • IT Cosmetics is not sold in mainland China, or in any country where animal testing is still required by law

IT Cosmetics is certified cruelty free by PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies program.

New Reformulated Confidence in an Eye Cream

Years ago, when I first started blogging, I joined an influencer group called Bzzz Agent. It’s been a long time since I worked with them. But recently, I got an email that they were working with IT Cosmetics and were going to be sending out Confidence in an Eye Cream to select members. I applied, and I was chosen to receive a free jar of IT Cosmetics Confidence in an Eye Cream.

I have purchased several IT Confidence in a … skincare products over the years: Confidence in a Cleanser, Confidence in a Cream, probably others too. I liked them, so I was happy to have a chance to try the Eye Cream for free.

It appears that Confidence in an Eye Cream has recently been reformulated. The full name of the product is Confidence in an Eye Area Anti-Aging Peptide Eye Cream. Doesn’t seem like skincare product names have gotten longer and longer over the years?

Here’s the product description:

The delicate skin around your eyes needs specialized care to fight the signs of aging. Confidence in an Eye Cream is the lightweight anti-aging eye cream you know and love—now reformulated with 2% Super Peptide Concentrate to solve the 4 signs of eye fatigue! In just 4 weeks, you’ll see a visible improvement in:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Dark eye circles
  • Lack of firmness
  • Dryness

This multitasking, vegan* peptide eye cream also delivers 48 hours of hydration and provides an immediate brightening effect.

What’s different about the reformulated version vs. the original Confidence in an Eye Cream is that the new eye cream has 4 peptides that make up the 2% Super Peptide Concentrate:

  • Rice Peptide: Helps to reinforce barrier function
  • Soy Peptide: Helps to restore feeling of elasticity
  • Tripeptide: Helps to smooth look of crow’s feet
  • Tetrapeptide: Helps to reduce look of dark circles

The new formula now has hyaluronic acid in addition to ceramides and peptides. Those are ingredients that I like to see in skincare products that I use.

Also, rather than a cream, the reformulated Confidence in an Eye Cream is now a creamy balm. Instead of apricot color, it is now ivory.

I would say that Confidence in an Eye Cream is formulated to be an all-around, multi-tasking eye cream. It:

  • hydrates
  • smooths
  • brightens
  • refreshes
  • firms.

My Initial Thoughts

I received my jar of IT Confidence in an Eye Cream last week. I was really curious about it, so I went right to it.

The cream is rich-looking in the jar.

I’m not 100% sure what a “creamy balm” is vs. a cream. However, I can say that the Confidence in a Cream Hydrating Moisturizer that I bought some time ago is very thick, and it’s a moisturizer that I use only in the winter. The reformulated creamy balm Confidence in an Eye Cream is thick on my finger, but when I apply it to my eye area, it almost changes consistency. It feels much lighter weight than I expected and it seems to transform almost to an oil – but it’s not an oil. It’s actually a delightful balm!

My eyes feel instantly hydrated and soothed. The creamy balm is fragrance-free, so it’s perfect for my sensitive eyes that are even more sensitive now because of the pollen that’s everywhere.

The new formula is supposed to provide 48 hours of hydration and firmness. I couldn’t say because I apply eye cream twice a day. I couldn’t imagine not completely washing my face twice a day, lol. But I’m glad they feel confident saying that it hydrates for that long.

You know that for me the most important thing is how an eye cream firms the skin under my brow and above my crease. And IT Cosmetics recommends using Confidence in an Eye Cream under the brow/on the upper eyelid, not just on crow’s feet and under the eyes.

To my great surprise, IT Cosmetics Confidence in an Eye Cream performed amazingly well where it matters most to me. In fact, it passed my test with flying colors! After I patted it on my skin in and above my crease, it not only soothed my dry skin, but it immediately firmed and smoothed the skin. I was beyond impressed. I think it performed even better than my favorite City Beauty Lid Lifting Treatment at about half the price. Have a found a replacement? We’ll see, but it looks promising.

It takes 4 weeks to really judge the effectiveness of skincare products, and IT Cosmetics agrees with that. So I have about 3 more weeks to go to really assess its performance. Nevertheless, I was so impressed with my initial experience that I wanted to let you know what I think so far.

Thank you for the detailed review! I may give this a try as it is noted that it doesn’t cause milia. For some reason I am struggling with milia with a number of different eye creams. I have one that works well – you recommended it several years ago – Shisheido’s Power Infusing Eye Concentrate – but I always need to try something new:).

    1. I too was amazed when I read that it doesn’t cause milia! Several years ago, an esthetician recommended that I switch to gels rather than creams in order to prevent milia. I did for a while, using Shiseido Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Eye Concentrate (I have a bottle on my desk right now!) and Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb, a gel-cream. Then I started trying a lot of different eye creams, and I ended up with a milia along my lash line of my left eyelid. I asked my ophthalmologist about removing it, and he suggested that I see his colleague, an eye surgeon. Really? To remove a milia? Then covid hit, and I forgot about doing anything about it. I’m not in the mood to have 3 appointments in Boston to remove a milia. Boo. So that is a real boon if IT Confidence in an Eye Cream doesn’t cause them! I think it’s worth a try. As I mentioned, it may even work as well as City Beauty Lid Lifting Treatment on my upper eyelid, and it’s much cheaper, yay! LMK what you think if you do try it, Denise! It might be a good purchase when Ulta drops one of their 20% off coupons on prestige?

      1. Denise says:

I will let you know how it works in comparison to the Shiseido concentrate. And I don’t know about you, but Ulta is overdue with a coupon:). Sorry, both my daughter and I have been waiting for what seems like forever:). I need some Murad products – I can always get 20% off on their website but I like to shop in store.
Thank you so much for your blog. You have given me so many good product recommendations (like the Shisheido concentrate!). I so appreciate your posts.

        1. Thank you so much, Denise, for the nice words. Honestly, I often feel like I’m writing for just a handful of people, but when I think about you and several other women who tell me they enjoy some of the posts, it’s all worth it! xoxoxo I think Ulta had a 20% coupon/discount code on prestige maybe at the end of April. I didn’t even use it because at the time I couldn’t think of anything I needed. Denise, I just saw that the sale of IT Cosmetics got even better. I just bought two jars of Conf in an Eye Cream for $27.54 using the code FRIEND and I got another 4% off via Rakuten. I will email you the page shot. You can’t beat this deal, you could give one jar to your daughter!

  2. The addition of peptides is fantastic, and the way you describe this eye cream, and the way that it looks, really makes me want to try it! Thank you for the thorough review, Allison!

    1. I think IT’s reformulated Confidence in an Eye Cream is a definite winner! It’s worth a try when you’re in the market for a new eye cream

  3. Claudia says:

I’m positive I would like this one. I remember loving the face cream years back. I used IT cosmetics solely for a while! Right now I’m looking to try an eye cream with retinol or retinol alternative. The skin under my eyes has gotten so creepy in the last two allergy seasons. I know I’m wrecking my eyes rubbing them so hard when it’s Sprinngtime

    1. The IT Confidence in an Eye Cream is perfect for most of my needs. I’ve been using Tony Moly retinol eye gel at night, and I like it.

  4. Thanks for the tip! I need to try this one! I also signed up with BzzzAgent, btw, and am currently trying out a different set of skincare.

    1. Keep me posted about your review, Gabrielle, so I can check it out!

  5. I have an unopened box of their old eye cream but now I want this new one. I’m not in the market until I make a dent in the open jars of eye creams but if the right sale comes up, all bets are off.

I love It Cosmetics products. Good review. I tried PUR 4-in-1 cloud cream, a gel to water Moisturizer and have been impressed. A little goes a long way. I also have confidence in a cream and love it.

    1. I have Confidence in a Cream, and I love it too especially for the colder weather. It’s been a while since I used anything from PUR, and I mostly used their makeup. But the name “Cloud Cream” is intriguing, and the gel to water consistency sounds so different. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
