Today I went into Boston to get my hair colored and cut, or so I thought. It turns out I didn’t have an appointment to have my hair cut after all. I am sure I asked the receptionist a month ago to make me an appointment with both my colorist and my stylist. Oh well, my hair is going to be very very long when I go back next month!
Although my hair appointment was shorter than I expected, I still didn’t get home until late. So this is going to be a very short post. I had been planning to include this mini-review along with a review of the Highlight and Contour Palette from Jesse’s Girl, but I don’t have the swatches done, so the palette will have to wait.
A few weeks ago, I sang the praises of Jesse’s Girl Matte Finish Lip Color and the gorgeous neutralish, pink-mauve shade, Angelic, that I received. Here’s the review.
When I compare Jesse’s Girl Matte Finish Lip Color, Angelic to either the Tarteist Lip Paint shades birthday suit or rosé that I wrote about yesterday, Jesse’s Girl Angelic wins hands down. Although Tarteist Lip Paint feels more mousse-y or creamy when it goes on, it dries the heck out of my lips…and I’m not the only one who says that! Plus it costs 4 times as much. And finally, I think Angelic, the pink-mauve neutral, is a better shade for me. As much as I like the idea of nudes, more color suits me better.
So with all this love I feel for Matte Finish Lip Color, I went out and bought another shade. It had to be red, of course.
There was only one red shade available: Sultry, a true red, an American Beauty red. It’s a darn pretty red!
Matte Finish Lip Color is more liquidy than Tarteist Lip Paint, but it doesn’t run or feather. It’s easy to get a crisp line with the doe-foot applicator without using lipliner. It quickly dries down to a matte finish. It’s featherweight on the lips. It doesn’t come off on a glass or cup. It lasts for hours (though I haven’t eaten a meal wearing it).
It costs $3.99. If you have dry lips and can’t usually wear matte liquid lipstick, I think Jesse’s Girl Matte Finish Lip Color is worth a try! It works for me 😀
Also, don’t you love that cute little heart-shaped, pink leopard-skin mirror from Jesse’s Girl? At $2.99, I couldn’t resist it!
Going to have to try one of these lipsticks. I love their eye shadows. I bought the palette that has different shades of green. Since I have green eyes decided to play them up. It goes on nicely and stays all day. I am thrilled to find these drug store products that actually are not a waste of money.
I have that same eye palette, Sandy, and it’s one of my favorites because of the green shades – the perfect palette for Earth Day on Saturday! With your green eyes, it must be perfect. I was blown away that I can actually wear the JG Matte Finish Lip Color (though I can’t wear it every single day), and it doesn’t dry out my lips. The two shades I’ve tried are great, and they definitely last.
Now if I could only find a drug store foundation
Now that’s a tough one. The fact that we can’t test the shades makes it almost impossible for me. Milani has a wonderful foundation + concealer in one, but the shades run too yellow for me. CoverGirl has about a million shades of liquid foundation, and I did find one that I liked. Have you looked at them? I haven’t tried Maybelline FIT but many women like it. My drugstore “foundation” isn’t a foundation but a CC cream: Lumene CC Cream in Light. I love it for everyday, and I can often find it at Ocean State Job Lot as well as on sale at CVS.
The first thing that popped into my head when you mentioned the brand name was the song Jesse’s Girl lol Love the colors on you! It’s also pretty amazing, for the quality, that it’s so affordable! I’m going to have to get my hands on these soon.
Yes, the song is front and center for me when I think of the Jesse’s Girl brand too. But I’ve been very impressed by the quality of their products for the price point. While I still can’t wear the liquid lipstick every single day (not that I would anyway!), but it doesn’t dry out my lips when I do, yay! You look great in both colors Alison. I also find Tarteist lip paint too drying but the ones I have end up getting mixed with other moisturizing lipsticks. Jesse’s Girl is so affordable, I checked out their website and everything is extremely reasonable. That red looks amazing on you! There’s a fortune awaiting whoever invents a liquid lipstick that is (very) long-wearing, has a matte finish, but does not dry the lips out through a day.

This one is close, Renu. I still can’t wear even this liquid lippie everyday, but I can wear it and not be miserable like I am with just about every other brand I try.

I have yet the try these, but I want to from your review. Both shades look great on you. I look better in colors rather than nudes too. We tend to like the same lipstick shades too!
