I had been saving my Sephora points for quite a while. With the exception of the purse size Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Body Cream that I wrote about last week (here), there haven’t been any beauty products among the choices that I really wanted. I accumulated about 1700 points.
About a month ago, I went to a larger Sephora at the Burlington Mall with my friend Miriam who needed to buy a foundation that they only had at that store. While I was browsing, I noticed something totally different among the products you can redeem your points for. It was a white and charcoal grey striped and tassled, cotton Turkish bath towel/beach towel/shawl/scarf.
I had seen similar towels this past summer at a cute boutique in the seaside town, Rockport MA called Carol’s Cottage. She had lots of different colors of striped towels, and they cost about $30, if I remember correctly. I really wanted one, but I didn’t want to spend the money at the time. So when I saw one at Sephora, I grabbed it. I can’t remember how many points I had to redeem for it, but I’m guessing it was probably 1000 points. The towel is about 6 feet long and about 4 feet wide. I love how versatile it is. Talk about multitasking, I can use it for so many different things.
When I went to my local Sephora to return a bottle of Ouai Leave-In Hair Conditioner that I decided I didn’t need, I noticed a black velvet turban headband in the case holding the Sephora gifts for points. Turban headbands seems to be the accessory de jour this season, so I decided it would be worth spending my points on. It was 500 points.
It is well made, the velvet is high quality, but it’s a little bit on the tight side. I assume it will stretch a bit with use. I haven’t figured out the best way to wear it. Since I have bangs, it’s more awkward than I expected. If I push my bangs straight back, they stick up in back of the headband. They look dorky if I leave my bangs as is. Next, I think I’ll try sweeping my bangs to the side and then try pushing them back. If anyone with more experience with headbands with elastic backs has any experience with hiding bangs, please let me know. I am more than open to instruction 😉
So even though I haven’t cracked the code on my headband yet, I’m still happy with my Sephora freebees. What have you gotten with your Sephora points lately?

What a great use of your points, Allison. That multipurpose towel is especially lovely! The best thing that I have recommend from them so far was using a bunch of points to get a $100.00 gift card, and I am saving up in the hopes of getting that again!
Wow, that’s amazing, Helen! I don’t think I ever saw the $100 gift card as an option. I will definitely find out how many points are required and start saving up for that one next!
Wow! Those towels at Carol’s were so lovely, I’m glad you found this one for points!! Very nice.
To be honest, I preferred the gorgeous colors of the ones at Carol’s, but you can’t beat free!!
Love both items Allison! I think your idea of pushing your bangs to the side and then back would work. Unfortunately I was on a mission to find my signature scent and used a lot of points trying out different ones.I think I have a bit over 600 points and I’m trying not to make too many impulse buys(like 3ipsy bags lol).xo
Thank you, Laura! I will try that with my bangs and the headband, and hopefully it’ll work. I was so happy to get something different for a change. So did you find your signature scent? That’s at least good that you could use points to try out the new fragrances rather than buying them and being disappointed. BTW, did you ever consider Scentbird? I’ve been a subscriber to Scentbird for a few years, but mostly my account is on hiatus. Nevertheless, I discovered 3 scents that I really love by subscribing. I think their strategy where you pay about $15 for a 30 day purse spray in the fragrance of your choice is a good way to determine if you like a scent. Another site I just discovered is Fragrance Line that sells samples in different sizes and prices depending on the fragrance. They have a lot of indie and luxury fragrances. I just bought the perfume oil/body oil of my signature scent at the Barneys NY sale, and they threw in a couple of samples. Now I find myself intrigued by Replica Jazz Club. I think Sephora sells a rollerball or travel spray version for $28 so I may need to get that one of these days. There’s always something calling my name, lol. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Laura xo
I love what you spent your points on. So cute.
Courtney recently posted…The Best Cruelty-Free Drugstore Foundation for Under $10
What great choices. I wonder if other stores had those in stock too. The last time I spent points it was for a Milk Hydro Grip Primer.
I hope you liked the Milk primer. I think Courtney uses it, or maybe she uses their foundation. I need to try more from that brand! Happy Thanksgiving, Marcia!
I have one like that in a turquoise stripe!
I love turquoise!
