July Ipsy Plus Bag: Soak It All In

I guess the bloom is off the rose for me when it comes to being excited about my Ipsy Plus bags. I switched to every other month because I have way too many cosmetics. I forgot to review my last bag that I got in May, and the July bag has been sitting in my office for a couple of weeks.

Ipsy now only gives you one day, I think, to choose your products instead of the three days they used to allow. So for this bag, I was too late, and Ipsy chose for me. Like back in the old days when I first started.

But because I still like the discounts (though they’re not as deep as they used to be) on shopping cosmetics on their website, I have continued to subscribe to Ipsy. We’ll see. Maybe in the fall, I’ll take a break. Somehow I always get roped back in.

July Plus Bag: Soak It All In

Ipsy says “Soak it all in. The sun. The shimmer. The SPF.” I think they got it backwards, but no matter.

The bag itself is cute and summery. It also came in blue and white, but I actually like the yellow a lot.

What was in the July Plus bag of 5 full size products that they chose for me?

Volition Screen Time Hydra-Mist: I have finally gotten into using mists. Volition, a clean beauty brand, made this Hydra-Mist with a very fine spray so I can use it without too much trouble or sneezing. I like that it is an antioxidant spray with green tea and rose hip oil. In addition, it helps block blue light from phones and screens, though I wonder how much I need to spray on to get that benefit?  $29

Goldfaden MD Needle-Less Line Smoother Concentrate, 50 ml tube: This clean beauty anti-aging/anti-wrinkle lightweight, clear liqui-gel, smoothing and firming serum is a good one. Some users complained that it was runny, but I just apply it as a liquid with no problem. It has hyaluronic acid and seaweed extract. Glad to add it to my rotation of serums. Plus it’s a pricey one. $165 (It also comes in a smaller 30 ml pump bottle that may be easier for some to use, at $115.)

Roen Kiss My Liquid Lip Balm, shade Charlie: I’m usually always happy to get lipgloss in my Ipsy bag especially if it’s a pretty MLBB mauve-raisin shade in an elegant tube.

I decided to try it out immediately, and I freaked out when I put it on and discovered that it has peppermint oil in the formula.

My lips don’t usually get along with peppermint oil. However, this lip balm, perhaps because of all the other hydrating balms in the formula – mango and grapeseed oils, doesn’t bother my lips too much. It takes about 5 minutes for the tingling to go away, and it doesn’t seem to be drying. Nevertheless, it isn’t one of my everyday balms. $26

MOTD Cosmetics Seas The Day Makeup Brush Set: I had never heard of this cruelty-free, vegan makeup brand, but I can always use more makeup brushes. Plus the aqua color of the handles that looks like the Caribbean ocean is very pretty. The brushes are multitaskers, good for applying and blending concealer, primer and eyeshadow. $24

Kimchi Chic Beauty Thailor Bronzer, shade 03 Went to Venice: Sadly, I don’t use bronzer, and I don’t bother with contouring, though maybe I should. So this bronzer in a cute heart-shaped compact is a waste for me. The brand was started by celeb Kim Chi, a contestant from RuPaul’s Drag Race show. $15

My Thoughts on My July Ipsy Plus Bag

I guess if I had gotten to choose 3 of the 5 items, I might have been happier with the July bag I got. Nevertheless, I can use 4 of the 5 products. The Goldfaden MD serum was the winner in this bag.

Because of the Goldfaden MD serum, the value of my July bag was $259. The least expensive product, the bronzer, for $15 is one I won’t use, so that makes me feel better. Ipsy Plus bags now cost about $28 a month plus tax and $1.99 handling (that’s a new charge) so I still got a good deal.

  1. The Roen lip gloss would have made me very happy– plus I have really been wanting to try their products for a while. It really does feel like ages since you featured an Ipsy bag! It feels like gone are the days when we were so impressed by so many of the beauty boxes!

I’m shocked that I like the Roen lip gloss, but I do. I would like to try some of their other products now. But you’re right, I haven’t reviewed an Ipsy bag in almost 6 months! And yes, the bloom is off the rose of subscription boxes, boo hoo

You have gorgeous cheekbones and need not contour! Ipsy lost me ages ago and has never been able to tempt me back.

    1. Allison says:

You’re so sweet, as always xoxo Do you contour? I’m too lazy. I definitely get that Ipsy burned a lot of bridges, especially your experience with their X bag/box. I’m hanging on because of the great skincare products that I’ve gotten either in my bag or that I’ve bought on discount from their shopping pages. But the bloom certainly is off the rose. I’ve wondered if there were other subscriptions that I might prefer, but there’s really nothing except Boxwalla

      1. Gabrielle says:

I don’t contour because I’m the opposite of you and with a face as round as mine, who the heck is going to actually believe I have cheekbones? I can understand why you’ve stuck with Ipsy. I did get Boxwalla this month. I’m waiting for it.

        1. My face is square! I’m glad you’re getting Boxwalla this month. Hope it’s a good one, but then they always are!

  3. I’m not sorry I stopped Ipsy but I do think that the Goldfaden serum was worth getting this bag.

    1. Allison says:

The Goldfaden serum is a good one, and I’ve bought a number of skincare products and accessories on discount that I’ve really liked. I also found a bunch of products over the years that have become staples for me, but for sure, the bloom is off the rose. I don’t think there are any subscription boxes that are tempting me these days
