Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist: Natural, Organic, Eco-Friendly

For the holidays, my friends Fintan and William gave me as part of my gift a Jurlique makeup case filled with travel size Jurlique skincare products. Jurlique was on my radar for some time, but I always have so many skincare products to test for review that it didn’t make sense for me to go out and buy it. I was happy to have a chance to try Jurlique skincare in the mini or travel sizes.

When Jeff and I went to New Hampshire for the weekend at the end of the winter, I took the Jurlique makeup case of samples along with me. Frankly, the eye cream and moisturizer samples were not hydrating enough for my winter-dry skin especially since it was absolutely frigid that weekend – the low was 14 degrees below zero! Nevertheless, one of the samples really was a hit with me: Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist.

The makeup case included a travel size spray bottle of Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist. I’ve been using it since the first weekend in March and I’m almost finished with it.

Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist, large size bottle, neversaydiebeauty.comThe rose scent is delicate but strong enough to smell the roses! Because I have a hard time spraying myself in the face, I usually spray it on my hands and pat it onto my face and neck after cleansing. It’s very gentle and dries in the blink of an eye.

Jurlique describes it as “A daily hydrating mist for normal to combination skin with the scent of roses that restores and hydrates the complexion.” The benefits are listed as:

  • Restores and hydrates skin
  • Refreshes, balances and soothes
  • Has antioxidant properties

Because my skin is so dry, I tried to buy a more hydrating version from Dermstore, but instead they sent the regular size of the Rosewater Balancing Mist ($24 though I had paid for the more expensive Rosewater Balancing Plus Moisture Mist. It seems that the Plus Moisture variety has been discontinued, so I returned the regular size Rosewater and bought the large instead since Dermstore was having a 20% off sale. (I also love that Dermstore has free shipping with no minimum!)

Jurlique does have other mist options:

Probably the Lavender mist would suit my dry skin, but I prefer the rose scent to lavender. Though I’d always like more hydration whenever possible, my skin doesn’t feel dry after I use the Rosewater Balancing Mist; it feels fine. I think it will be just right for the heat and humidity of summer.

Nevertheless, I read about the Rosewater Balancing Mist Intense Deluxe Edition on the Jurlique website, and it sounds like heaven: “contains an exclusive blend of potent Rose extracts to deeply hydrate, restore and soften your skin.” But I thought the $65 price tag for 200 ml put it out of my price range. Then I realized I paid $38 for 100 ml for the regular Rosewater Mist. Actually, the limited edition Intense Deluxe Edition was a better buy! Then I looked at the difference in ingredients and the Intense version contains glycerin as well as several different flower and plant extracts, and more rose essential oil in addition to Rosa gallca (rose) Flower Extract that both versions have. Oh well, too late now. I still love the regular Rosewater Balancing Mist and recommend it strongly if you are a fan of rosewater.

Sustainability and purity of ingredients is their mission, so they grow many of the product ingredients on their farm in the Adelaide Hills. Their farm is “certified biodynamic, a farming method which goes beyond organic farming by working in harmony with nature to grow plants that are healthy, potent and pure. (Their) plants are free from artificial fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides, and (they) harvest them when they’re naturally at their peak.” Jurlique won the Eco Award for 2016 from CEW.

  15. I used to dislike spraying products on my fave as well but I found that squeezing my eyes shut and holding my breath got me through it. This sounds amazing and while I tend to be sensitive to rose based products I’m ok if it’s straight up rose water and if I use it occasionally.
