Keeping My Hair and Skin In Good Shape With A Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase

My mother used to sleep with a silk pillowcase to keep her bouffant hairstyle looking fresh between hairdresser appointments. It was one of the few beauty secrets that I remember her telling me about. She’s been gone for a long time now. So I was especially happy to have an opportunity to remember her by trying out something that she had loved.

I was sent a Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase to try. In addition to being my mom’s favorite, I was surprised to find out that sleeping on silk is recommended by dermatologists, plastic surgeons and hairdressers. Silk prevents friction so hair doesn’t tangle and pull, and the fabric doesn’t crease under your skin.

Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase says their product is “anti aging, anti sleep crease, anti bed head”. I sleep on my side or on my stomach, so in the past I would sometimes wake up with a crease on my face. Often, I’d wake up with my hair going every which way. Now my hair feels as smooth as silk, and my skin has no extra lines or wrinkles that I certainly don’t need. Unlike cotton, pure silk doesn’t absorb water. Did you ever think that your cotton pillowcase actually draws water out of your skin? I sure didn’t. Silk actually helps your face stay hydrated!

But in addition to those important benefits, I discovered another plus that I didn’t expect. I have night sweats, and I often wake up in the middle of the night sweating and have to kick off the covers and move to another spot on my pillow. I was surprised to find out that natural silk stays much cooler throughout the night, so I don’t wake up as often. And when I do feel the need to move to a cooler spot on the pillow, silk feels downright like a refrigerator – it stays much cooler, actually colder, than cotton ever did! I recommend the Slip pillowcase for that alone, lol.

Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase let me choose among their luxe pure silk pillowcase options. They have several pretty colors: white, blush pink, champagne, charcoal, navy, peach, gold, red, and black. Although I would have loved the blush shade (one of my favorite colors and very on trend this year), I chose black so that my red hair color wouldn’t ruin the gorgeous silk. The queen size fits my regular sized pillow with room to spare. It also is available in king size.

The silk is so soft and so luxurious. It’s embroidered with the Slip logo. Slip says that they use “the highest grade (6A) long fiber mulberry silk”. It is substantial, not thin. Importantly, they use non-toxic dyes which is good since it’s on my skin for about 8 hours a night and I’m breathing it! In order to help your Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase last a long, long time, they recommend washing it with a pH neutral detergent (pH=7) with delicates on a gentle cycle or washing it by hand. I’ve been trying to figure out the pH level of detergents (most range between 7-10), but I can’t find a list. Because my washing machine is old, I wash my Slip pillowcase by hand with baby shampoo, dish liquid or fine fabric wash. It could use a touchup with the iron, but I don’t usually do it lol.

Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase is an investment: queen size is priced at about $79, king size at $99. You can find it at Sephora, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Dillard’s among other fine retailers as well as on the Slip website where you can find their luxe eye mask! and more information about the product. We often don’t hesitate to spend a lot of money on skincare and haircare products that get used up in a few months, but a Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase that’ll last for years is actually a better value!

  1. No, I have not tried silk pillowcase but I know it’s supposed to be really good for hair but I had no idea that it’s good for skin too. I might look into investing one for the new home, it sounds like it’s worth the money in the long run.
