KMS Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion

Reviewing a frizz serum during the hottest, most humid summer is like living in a fool’s paradise. But I have been sticking with it.

KMS has been a long time favorite haircare brand of mine. In fact, five years ago, I tried KMS Tame Frizz De-Frizz Oil. While I did find De-Frizz Oil effective that staving off frizz (see my review here), I don’t really love using hair oil since I shampoo my hair only every 5-7 days.

So I was happy to find out about KMS Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion, and I was eager to try it. Actually, Tame Frizz was designed for medium/thick, coarse hair like mine. In addition, Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion also works on hair that’s wavy or even coily, like corkscrew curls.

KMS Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion Benefits

  • Provides instant comb-ability and reduces frizz during blow drying
  • Lightweight leave-in formula
  • Eliminates flyaways and static

What more or less surprised me about KMS Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion is that it works primarily after shampooing/during blow drying/styling. Because I use conditioner/treatments, I don’t usually have a problem combing my hair after shampooing. But I had noticed this summer, that my hair was frizzy while and after I blew it dry. Usually it doesn’t matter, however, because I always flatiron my hair.

The third benefit, “eliminates flyaways and static”, is something that I associate more with the dryness of winter air rather than summer humidity.

Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion Key Ingredients

  • Polyquaternium-37 – polymer for control and eliminates flyaways
  • Hydroxypropyl Guar/Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride – smoothes and reduces frizz
  • Babassu – known for restoring the hair’s elasticity and promoting smoother hair ends with less breakage – for healthy looking and nourished hair

Smoothness, elasticity and moisture-retaining properties are important to me for my hair.

What’s It Like to Use KMS Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion?

I found KMS Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion very pleasant to use. I towel dry my hair first by keeping it wrapped in my Aquis Original Microfiber Turban to remove the water. Then I pump out less than a quarter size dollop of non-greasy Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion onto my fingers and run them through my hair from roots to ends. Then I comb or brush my hair and blow dry followed by flatironing and styling. It’s a leave-in treatment product.

I like the lightweight lotion that somewhere between a lotion and a gel. It’s not at all sticky.

The KMS website told me that the fragrance of Tame Frizz is an oriental scent, the kind of scent that I prefer. They also mention the scent of flowers and fruit, but I just smell light spices. In addition, the fragrance does not linger or last in anyway on my hair.

My hair comes out very smooth and silky after using KMS Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion. Here a quick pic of my hair today, a beautiful, sunny, fairly low humidity day compared to the icky weather over the past several weeks:

During the high humidity days, my hair came out smooth and silky after shampooing, blow drying and styling, but frizz did return after a day or so being exposed to the high humidity outdoors.

I will continue using KMS Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion till it’s used up and see if it is worth continuing to use as part of my haircare regimen. While I wouldn’t describe Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion has a heavy-duty de-frizzer, it does make my hair smooth and manageable, especially if it’s not super humid outside.
