Lauren Conrad: A New-To-Me Lipstick from Ipsy

Although Ipsy Plus has been more hit or miss than in past years, one of the things I still really enjoy about it is the add-on products at discounted prices. Last month, I think Ipsy had another shopping opportunity that they didn’t promote or explain very well, but the email they sent to either tell me or remind me about it got me to go to the website to see what was available.

I ended up buying a lipstick from Lauren Conrad Beauty. I don’t watch much TV (except PBS, political shows, Create TV, and Boston sports), and I haven’t seen any new movies since before the pandemic. So I had no idea who Lauren Conrad is. Frankly, I still don’t. I just looked her up on Wikipedia, and it says she came to fame at age 18 in 2004 in a reality TV show “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County”. No wonder I don’t know who she is. And she’s a fashion designer, though I guess her line is carried at Kohl’s and I haven’t been in that store in about 5 years. In spite of my obliviousness, she’s become well-known over the past 17 years.

What appealed to me was the shade of the lipstick. The spicy autumnal color, Shell, that Ipsy calls a “neutral” caught my eye, and I decided to try it. The Ipsy price was $12.

I was surprised that Ipsy didn’t send it along with my Ipsy Plus bag that I am supposed to receive this month. Instead, they paid the shipping to send it to me alone in one of their padded pink envelopes. Whatever.

The lipstick is well worth the $12 I paid for it. The shade looks like pumpkin spice, and it looks good with my freshly re-colored hair. Although the formula is a little stiffer than I expected it to be, it pretty much covers in one swipe. It’s one of those super lightweight lipsticks that you totally forget you’re wearing because it feels like nothing. I thought it was supposed to be a satin finish, but to me, it’s more of a semi-matte. Since matte lipsticks and my lips don’t get along, I was a little nervous at first. But I haven’t found it to be drying. It’s not creamy or hydrating, it’s just there. It doesn’t feather, settle into my liplines, or bleed. That fuzzy looking line outside my lips is my lipliner that needs to be sharpened. And surprise, surprise, Shell is amazingly long wearing. It even lasted through a meal.

The Lauren Conrad lipstick is vegan, cruelty-free and ethically-sourced (though they don’t say how. I am guessing no palm oil).

I disagree with Ipsy’s description of the lipstick leaving lips “soft and moisturized”, but it is fine since it isn’t drying. Of the 9141 reviews of this lipstick on Ipsy, it is rated 4.5 out of 5. Most everyone loves it – especially the neutral shade and the long wearing color, and I feel the same way.

The packaging is environmentally friendly. It’s made from sugarcane bioresin that’s eco-friendly and fully recyclable. Wonder if I can toss it in my compost pile if/when I finish it up?

It appears that Lauren Conrad Beauty is not launching online until 2022. But you can buy this lipstick on Ipsy (if you’re a subscriber, I assume) still for $12. Ipsy says that the MRSP is $18. But if you’re not an Ipsy subscriber, you can also buy it on Amazon where it’s on sale for $13.99, and there are only 5 left.

Although I am still wearing a mask indoors, I am so happy to be wearing lipstick again. Aren’t you?

  1. The color is gorgeous on you, Allison. I am glad that it doesn’t dry out your lips. I remember Lauren Conrad from back when she was on the reality tv show on MTV called The Hills, and I think that she became a fashion designer when she left the show.

    1. Aha! Wikipedia didn’t mention her being on MTV’s The Hills. No wonder I didn’t know her.

I haven’t bought a new lipstick since Covid started but I’m due for that. This is a little warm for me but great on you. It looks so much more natural on your lips than in the tube.

    1. You are due for a new lipstick, Marcia! I know you like the light pink ones, right? Yes, this is a good shade for me. It looks so dark in the tube but on my lips it’s almost an MLBB shade. It was a good surprise
