Lipstick Mini-Haul from Sephora VIB Sale

I wanted to keep my Sephora VIB status for next year so I did more shopping than I should have. Today I just have time for a quick post, so I’ll show you some pretty lipstick shades I bought, and I’ll write about the rest of the haul another time.

I bought two lipsticks:

  • Urban Decay Vice, Cruel with a metallized finish
  • Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche ornament, a double-ended lipstick with Rose Gold and Fig shades.

Urban Decay Vice, Cruel

So I think I’m the last woman on the planet to try the no longer brand new Urban Decay Vice lipsticks. I decided now was the time. With my 20% off, the usual $17 became $13.50. Better, right? Vice lipsticks come in 100 shades and a number of finishes: mega matte, matte, comfort matte, cream, sheer, and metallized. Unfortunately, all the mattes are out of the question for me. I tried a sample of a comfort matte shade, Temper, a gorgeous orange-red, but it was even too dry for me. However, if your lips aren’t as dry as mine, I strongly recommend trying the comfort matte shades – they have an amazing light as a feather feeling on the lips.

Unfortunately, the way that the UD Vice display is arranged bugs me. It’s arranged by shade, and for some of you, that may make sense. If you can wear any finish, it’s not a problem. But for me, it is. I had to make my way through every shade (again, there are 100 shades) only to be disappointed that most of the shades I loved are matte. I wish the cream finish lipsticks had their own section. There are only relatively few of them so it wouldn’t have been that difficult to put them together.

But in the end, I didn’t go with a cream finish. I chose Cruel, one of the very few metallized options in the lineup. I have about a million red or red-orange lipsticks so I was eager for something a little different. I think the metallic red-orange, Cruel, is perfect for fall and for the holiday season. The metallic finish is shimmery without going overboard, and the formula is not at all drying. I was surprised at how long lasting the color was. I wore it last night to a meeting where I ate a few refreshments. I looked in the mirror when I got home, and the color was still about 85% on. When I removed the lipsticks about 6 hours later, I could still see the color very well. I’m really pleased with this lipstick and shade.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick Duos

Last year and maybe even the year before, I wrote about the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche double-ended mini-lipsticks that I picked up both at the holidays and in the spring. I really enjoy these lipsticks because they are made from food-grade ingredients and I feel better about wearing them. Also, the mini size is perfect. I haven’t finished up a full size lipstick in years. Also, I love the two-in-one idea.

This time, I picked up a Rose Gold and Fig duo. I bought Fig in a duo last year when it was paired with a different shade. Fig is a highly wearable pink/beige neutral that’s perfect for everyday or for anytime. It’s one of my favorite shades, period.

Metals are a hot trend for this holiday season. Bite Beauty has hopped on the bandwagon by offering a different metallic shade in all of their Amuse Bouche Lipstick Duos this season: silver, gold, bronze, and rose gold. I’ve seen a lot of people wearing rose gold or yellow gold alone lately, and the gold makes quite a statement. But I’ll probably be wearing the Rose Gold on top of Fig and other shades for a metallized look. The Rose Gold by itself is pretty but it’s too light for me on its own.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipsticks, on me, are neither hydrating nor drying, but they are comfortable for me to wear. The Amuse Bouche Lipstick Duo ornament boxes are hanging near the checkout at Sephora, and it is priced at $14. 2 x 0.05 oz. Cruelty-free.

Ingredients: Fig: RICINUS COMMUNIS (CASTOR) SEED OIL**, GLYCERYL ROSINATE*, CERA ALBA (BEESWAX)**, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL**, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER**, TRIISOSTEARYL CITRATE*, ARGANIA SPINOSA (ARGAN) KERNEL OIL**, EUPHORBIA CERIFERA (CANDELILLA) WAX*, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL*, SESAMUM INDICUM (SESAME) SEED OIL**, COPERNICIA CERIFERA (CARNAUBA) WAX**, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) CERA (WAX)*, POLYMETHYL METHACRYLATE, HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL*, FLAVOR (AROMA), HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED WAX*, ACACIA DECURRENS FLOWER WAX*,POLYGLYCERYIN-3*, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL**, VITIS VINIFERA (GRAPE) SEED EXTRACT**, SILK POWDER*, PEARL POWDER*, GLYCERYL OLEATE*, OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) OIL UNSAPONIFIABLES*, TRANS-RESVERATROL*, VITIS VINIFERA (GRAPE) SEED OIL**, ALMOND (PRUNUS DULCIS) OIL**, OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) FRUIT OIL**, COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL**, PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL**, PRUNUS ARMENIACA (APRICOT) KERNEL OIL**, PUNICA GRANATUM (POMEGRANATE) SEED OIL**, SIRAITIA GROSVENORII (MONK FRUIT) EXTRACT*

What do you think of these shades that I bought?  Are they colors you’d wear? If not, which shades do you love?

  1. Nope, you’re not the last women to try the UD Vice lipstick because I haven’t been bothered by any of them either. Haha! The too huge range turns me off, I rather stick to smaller and less overwhelming range.

    1. I agree, Shireen, that 100 shades plus some limited edition shades are just too many! But they have tried to make it easier by grouping them by shade families. Still, I want them grouped by finish! At any rate, I do love the metallized Cruel shade that I just bought. When Ulta has it’s sale, I’ll pick up another one but a cream finish. I just wish they’d put all the cream shades together (there aren’t that many) to make it easier to select one.

  2. Nice picks, Allison! That BITE duo is so gorgeous! I love the UD lippie on you, too! You make a really good point about the UD display, and I completely agree that they should be arranged by finish! Even if one can where any of their formulas, it would be so much easier to be able to select the finish you want without having to spend so much timing going through the display! I am waiting for my Sephora purchases to arrive, and I did what I haven’t done in a VERY long time– I did a major haul!!!!!

    1. I am eager to see your haul, Helen! I bought too much from Sephora, but I foolishly decided I wanted to keep my VIB status for next year so I overdid it 😉

      1. Oops, I wrote “where” when I meant “wear”– tired girl, I am. Yes, I did the same thing– except I not only renewed my VIB status, but I ended up buying so much that I am now a Rouge through the end of next year. I’m actually shocked that I showed no restraint! I haven’t done a real haul in a few years, but I am shocked that I did as much damage as I did!

        1. Rouge! Wow, now I can hardly wait to see everything that you bought! I am always curious to see what beauty bloggers buy since we have so much already!

          1. I got the last of it today, and am a little shocked that I bought as much as I did. I have been really tired from working really long hours the last couple of weeks, and I think that impacted my impulse control, LOL! I am going to have to curb my shopping for a while after this!

          2. You deserved a treat, Helen! And at least you’re working so it’s OK to splurge every now and then 🙂

One of my favorite go to lipstick and gloss is by Lipstick Queen:
Lipstick Queen “Jean Queen” Lip Gloss and the lip stick. Nice natural color goes with everything. I put the lipstick on then a little of the gloss. Have a beautiful day. Give someone your “SMILE ?.”

    1. I just looked up Jean Queen, DiEtta, and it’s beautiful! It sounds like a perfect pick. I loved the description – that it’s a pink that “offsets the blue in denim” to light up your face. What a cool idea! I also noticed that Lipstick Queen is available at dermstore.com. I love Lipstick Queen, and I’m glad to know it’s sold there because dermstore.com has free shipping and it is always having 20% off sales including right now!

  4. The Urban Decay lipstick has such beautiful packaging.

    1. For $14, I think the Bite Amuse Bouche duos are so worth it. I like them as little gifts too. I think you’d really like the Fig/Rose Gold duo because you’re a fan of pinks and this one is so pretty!

  7. You got some hawt colors, girl! Love!

    1. Thanks, missy!

  8. I have Bite in Fig and it’s a bit drying. I can imagine it looks really pretty with rose gold on top though! I really the cream VICE lippies.

    1. This is my second Fig from Bite, and I must be lucky. Somehow it isn’t drying on me, and everything usually is. I’m going to try one of the creams from Vice next, probably during the Ulta coupon event.

  9. That UD shade looks lovely on you. I’ve got one of the huge sample cards that sephora gave out a while back around here somewhere…. I think I maybe tried a purple…. But since I usually cannot be bothered to use a lip brush, and I don’t like trying to use my big hands to get tiny amounts of lipstick out of equally tiny foil-backed plastic bubbles, that’s about as far as I got in my sampling process. Sad, I know, lol

Maybe if I’m not feeling lazy and/or running late for work, I’ll dig it out tomorrow.

    1. I agree with you, Rach. Those sample cards that Sephora gives out are such a pain to use. I had one too from earlier this year and I ended up tossing it. The Vice Lipsticks are definitely worth trying IMO 🙂

  10. I love that UD shade on you. Come to think of it, I don’t own any metallic lipstick, I should buy it mext time. I bught the LE UD Vice during the sale

  12. Fig has been a long time fave of mine… I need to pull it out and use it more. These shades are definitely gorgeous.

    1. Glad to hear you’re a fan too. I think Fig is so pretty and so wearable!

  13. Pretty! You’re like me and tend to gravitate toward the same shade family no matter what line you shop. This is a great shade family for you!!

    1. Thank you, Stacie! I think so. I like pink/beige/mauve shades, reds and orange reds – so I usually pick among those three.

  14. Vice lipsticks are so good! And I love the shade selection but at the same time, it’s impossible to commit to a color…

I just posted a pre-Sephora sale mini haul on my blog which includes this particular Bite Beauty Mini Duo. I love both shades and your post from last year actually made me try these mini lispticks and the Bite brand in general 🙂
Agata recently posted…What was your last beauty purchase? My Profile

    1. Haha, Agata, I know what you mean! I found the 100+ shades overwhelming. I will probably pick up a cream shade during the upcoming Ulta sale however. I’m glad you’re a fan of the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick too!

  15. Those are beautiful choices, Allison! These colors really complement your complexion!

  16. I think Cruel looks good on you. It sucks you had to go through so many just to find the right one. I’ve never tried BITE before, but I love the shades you chose.

    1. Bite Beauty really is worth trying, Kim, especially for lipstick. It’s so good to know that it’s made from food grade natural ingredients. And thanks! I love UD Vice Cruel. Great holiday or everyday shade
