I have downturned eyes that often make it difficult to curl my outermost lashes and to get mascara on them. I’m generally happy with my Shiseido Lash Curler but those couple of lashes on the very outside of my eyes just don’t want to cooperate. And I have thicker lashes in the middle of my eyes that often get too much mascara on them. What to do!
Fortunately, I was given an opportunity to try out two new eye products. Let’s see if they helped.
Japonesque Heated Mini Eyelash Curler
I have never tried a heated lash curler before. I had heard about the trick of heating up the pad of a regular lash curler with a hair dryer, but truth be told, I was too lazy to try it. The idea of a heated lash curler that stays hot sounded much more appealing.
The Japonesque Heated Mini Eyelash Curler arrived a week ago, but it requires one AAA battery and I was all out. But a trip to CVS for batteries and I was all set to go. I inserted the battery into the handle chamber, pushed up the button at the midsection of the unit, and the curler began to heat up. You can control the amount of heat with the button, pushing it up all the way like I did for the most heat or midway for less heat. At full heat, it actually gets quite hot (not burning hot, but hot). So you need to be careful you don’t make it too hot, and if you do use it at the highest setting like I do, that you don’t touch your eyelid skin.
I looked for instructions on how to use it on my lashes, and there weren’t any on the package. So I just went for it! The heated wand is slightly curved. I was concerned that the curved shape would make it harder for me to use on my downturned eyes, but it was fine. I stroked the wand upward from underneath my lashes especially at the outer lashes as well as the unruly middle lashes that seem too close together. I held the wand in place till the lashes curled, and then moved on to a different part of my lashes. It took a few minutes on each eye, but I had never been able to get my lashes this curled up using a regular lash curler ever. Initially, I wondered if the curl would come out before I had a chance to apply mascara, but the curl stayed in with no problem. Wow.
The lash curler can be used either before or after applying mascara. I actually did both, and I found I got the best results that way. So I curl my lashes by sweeping up with the heated lash curler, then apply mascara and then sweep up again. I was thrilled with the results. It takes a while to get the results I’m after, but I think the extra time is definitely worth it.
If you do use the lash curler after applying mascara, the wand will need to be cleaned with a damp cloth from time to time. The directions say to remove the battery before cleaning with a soft, damp cloth.
Japonesque Heated Mini Eyelash Curler can be used with lash extensions. In fact, it is said that a heated lash curler is preferable to a traditional lash curler that puts too much pressure on lash extensions by clamping them.
Japonesque Heated Mini Eyelash Curler is priced at about $16. My curler is black, but I believe they will have a pink version for the same price. It’s sold at Ulta, dermstore.com but you can learn more on the Japonesque website. I was curious to see what other women had to say about this beauty tool, so I looked at the reviews on Ulta. The reviews were completely split. Women either loved it like I did or found it didn’t do anything for them. Go figure! I think that Japonesque should include instructions on how to use it since several of the women who didn’t like it didn’t understand how it should be used. I’m definitely satisfied with this cute heated lash curler. In fact, I’m delighted with my results!

I’m always on the lookout for new mascaras. Although I have several that I love, I’m sure that there will always be new ones coming onto the market that I must try. Enter Bellimisa Masterful Eyes Mascara.

Bellimisa Mascara has a good-sized bristled wand with a small bulge toward the middle. Because my eyes are downturned and a bit hard to apply mascara to, I’ve always wondered what’s the purpose of those bulges that a number of wands have? I don’t really need the bulge, but that’s just me. In spite of the bulge, the wand isn’t difficult to use. Though I often prefer a small, narrow wand with plastic teeth, this wand was fine especially since I was applying it to my curled lashes.
In fact, I got great length and volume with Bellimisa Mascara. I applied it to my heat curled lashes and let it dry. It is not a wet formula to begin with so that took a couple of seconds actually. Then I went back with my Japoneque Heated Lash Curler and curler my lashes some more. Then I gave my lashes a final coat with Bellimisa Mascara, and I concentrated on the tips of my lashes making my lashes extra long IMO.
I was pleased with the results. My lashes looked long, curled, with plenty of volume for me,. I was also happy to know that my mascara was not only cruelty-free but better for me. It was developed for sensitive eyes like mine, and it was easy to wear. No clumping, no flaking, long wearing.

This is so interesting! I have seen a few heated eye lash curler before but never tried any as I wasn’t sure if it’s burn my eyelashes off. I’m going to look for this from Japonesque, my best bet is probably online as I don’t see the brand in stores where I live.

I crank it up to the highest temperature, but I suggest starting out much lower. My lashes are stick straight, Shireen, though I think they’re a bit longer than yours. With this device, my lashes really curl and the curl stays in till I remove the Bellimisa mascara I’ve been wearing lately at night more than 12 hours later. I’m sold!
I have heard about heated eye lash curlers, but they kind of freak me out, but the fact that you are delighted by the results helps curb my fears! Your lashes look stunning!

My lashes are stick straight, and my Shiseido Lash Curler does a good job but sometimes my lashes straighten out before I get to put the mascara on, and they definitely straighten out during the day. This heated curler really did the job for me. My lashes stay curler until I removed my Bellimisa Mascara at night! I’m in love <3

Heated lash curlers don’t usually help me. I love that yours is staying curled.

Bellimisa Mascara is quite lovely. The lengthening was amazing, but it volumized as well. Great for sensitive eyes too! It worked so well in conjunction with the heated lash curler for me. I probably should try it on its own, but I love the results of the two together.
I’ve used heated eyelash curlers and find they work really well.
It was a revelation for me, Cindy! My stick straight lashes would hold a curl for a little while with a regular lash curler, but the heated curler is beyond belief for me. The curl stays in till I remove my mascara whenever that is. Amazing

I had been curious about the Chella heated lash curler so I was happy to get to try out this one from Japonesque. I’m assuming that they work the same way. I’m really pleased with my results!
It’s been about a year since I’ve pulled out my heated lash curler. I’ve always enjoyed them… but not the wait time and the patience to curl my lashes. I think they can be hard for me when I’m in a pinch, but I love that they don’t damage or cause that weird bend. Over the years of doing makeup I have learned how to work a lash curler or two thankfully. 😉 I just started using that mascara… interesting formula 😉

This heated lash curler from Japonestque heats up immediately so I don’t have to wait for it. If I’m in a hurry, I just curl first and apply my mascara and go. If I have more time, I curl first, apply mascara and curl more. Regardless, I am blown away by the results. And yes, the formula of the mascara is interesting. Truth be told, I didn’t know how to describe it so I’ll look forward to reading your review. I like the results I get!

I have to echo what Chella said. I’ve always been afraid to try a heated curler, but after reading your review, I really want to. I didn’t know heat was preferable to cranking the torture device.

Chella? Not sure I follow. But I can’t tell you enough how much I love this heated lash curler from Japonesque, Shelley! It is a real game changed. I thought my regular Shiseido curler was doing a good job, but the heated curler blows it away. Again, start out with less heat and increase it to an amount of heat that you feel comfortable with. I crank mine to the top. You’re taking the wand/comb and just brushing up so the heat doesn’t really touch your skin. Hope you try it eventually!
I’m intrigued by the heated lash curler, and I like that it’s not a clamp.

That Japonesque curler was the very first heated curler I’ve ever tried, and it’s pretty nice! I use a different brand right now, but I always recommend this one to my friends who want to try using a curler like that.
