Lorac The Resort Eye and Cheek Palette

Lorac The Resort Palette, a limited edition eye and cheek palette, came out in the early spring, available only at Nordstrom for about $25. I just didn’t want to spend $25, so I passed. A couple of months ago, the palette showed up on Hautelook, and I didn’t want to pay the shipping costs. So I waited some more.

I finally picked up the palette at Nordstrom Rack for $14.97 at the beginning of May. Last time I was there, a week or so ago, they were still there along with another smaller Stay Cool palette.

Although I don’t love this palette as much as I do the Lorac Unzipped Gold Palette (that is much more expensive and only an eye shadow palette, see one of my looks with it here), I’m glad I bought it for $15.

There are a couple of shades in it that I don’t already own. Plus it’s a good palette for travel because it comes with highlighter, contour, 2 shades of blush, and 6 eye shadows.

palette shades

All of these powder shadows, blushes etc. are a little more powdery and a little less buttery than the Lorac Unzipped Palette, but they are still quite easy to blend. I definitely recommend applying them over primer.

The Shades

My feelings about these shades vary from shade to shade. One reason why it took me so long to post a review of the palette is that it has been almost impossible for me to get decent photos of the swatches. These are probably among the worst swatches I’ve done, but so be it. The swatches (photo taken outdoors in the sun) are not over primer, but definitely primer makes a difference in preventing fallout and getting some of the lighter and shades to show up.

I found the highlighter to be rather disappointing. It doesn’t really show up on my light skin (it’s at the very top and you might be able to see a slight shine). I own much better highlighters.

The matte cafe au lait/pale brown eye shadow hardly shows up at all in the swatch (perhaps you can see a shadow of it almost at the top). On my eyes, it serves as a good base to cover my red eyelids, a decent blending shade or a good shade for the inner corner. The three metallic shimmer shades are the prettiest: rose gold, bronze, and greened-gold (next in order in the swatches). I bought this palette essentially for the greened-gold. I had nothing like it. Both the rose gold and the bronze are beautiful, although similar to some other shades I own from the Lorac Unzipped Palette as well as others. All three are quite metallic and shimmery, and I have to be careful that I don’t use too much of them at one time because it’s just too much shimmer for my older eyes. But they sure are fun to play with. The matte deep brown and matte black are both good neutrals for a smokey eye, or for use in the crease or outer V. I especially like the deep brown because surprisingly I don’t own anything like it.

The two blushes are lovely (3rd from the bottom and at the bottom). The pinky peach definitely says “resort” to me. It looks like summer, and it’s a good shade for me. The deeper dusty rose is beautiful, and I don’t have a blush this color, love it.

The bronzer or contour is a milk chocolate shade (2nd to the bottom). I seldom use bronzer or contour. Truth be told, I mostly use it as a matte medium brown eye shadow to counteract all the shimmer. I hope there’s nothing in it that makes that a mistake. My eyes seem to be OK with it.

Here’s an eye look I did with the rose gold on most of the eyelid, the greened-gold in the outer V, and the medium brown contour as a crease shadow. I had to blend blend blend because I put on too much rose gold, and it was too much. As I mentioned, I applied this over Urban Decay Anti-aging Primer Potion, and this shadow lasted and lasted. It was going strong when I removed it 12 hours later.

If these shades suit you, I recommend picking up this palette at Nordstrom Rack if there’s one near you and they still have it in stock. It’s definitely worth the $15 in spite of the not so great highlighter and the too pale matte brown shadow. Did you buy this palette when it came out this spring?

FYI, because I had lipstick on my teeth, I had to photoshop it off, so my foundation and skin look better than they did in real life. Nevertheless, here’s what I used:

  1. I have this palette, out of all the colors love that Green gold the most! It was more powdery than I expected for Lorac 🙁 but still not a bad buy and I routinely toss it in my travel bag so I don’t have to tote all my other stuff with me!

    1. Tia, I’m so glad to hear that you love The Resort Palette and that the distinctive green-gold is also your favorite! I definitely bought the palette for that shade! Although I haven’t done any traveling since I bought it, I know it’s one I’d take with me 🙂

  2. Ooh, I like the blushes in this palette! I think Lorac always does a great job with their palettes, they’re always wearable and well-coordinated.

    1. This really is well-coordinated, a great way to describe it, Anastasia! The peachy-pink is a great summer shade and the deeper one was a great surprise, so pretty!

  3. It sounds like this was slightly disappointing, which I guess makes it even better that you bought it at such a good price! I do love the look you created though – you always do such a great job. 🙂

    1. You’re so great to say that, Jessica! I am actually happy with the palette because I bought it mostly for the green-gold and the rose-gold shades, and they are both great. Although the mattes aren’t quite as buttery as LORAC’s other palettes, it’s a wonderful and rather unique palette that’s great for travel too. And $15

  4. Gorgeous FOTD. What a bummer that the highlighter was disappointing to you– that definitely would bum me out!

    1. Actually, I don’t care about the highlighter. I bought the palette for the unique green-gold shade and for yet another rose gold, so I’m still a happy camper 😉

  5. Rachel R. says:

This is a great palette. The rose gold shadow is really flattering on you.

    1. Thank you so much, Rachel! And thanks for taking the time to comment xoxo I am a sucker for rose gold and have several of them. One of these days when I get caught up on blogposts, I’ll do a rose gold shadow post! The green-gold is great too. Although it’s a tad darker than I would typically use, I may try it on my entire lid like a green-gold smokey eye…if I can get away with it!

  6. Love the look you created. The palette does sound like a great deal at $15, even if it a little too powdery.

      1. I like it more than you do, but you’re definitely right about the shimmery shades being the best.

        1. I bought it for the unique green-gold shadow and the lovely rose gold eye shadows, and the two great blushes were the bonus! Although some of the shades don’t have the great consistency of some of the bigger Lorac palettes, for $15 it was a great buy!

  7. The closest Nordstrom Rack to me is over two hours away. I hate living in BFEEEE!!!!!!

    1. Where the heck do you live? I know AZ is huge, but I always thought that everyone was in driving distance of Phoenix or Tucson. Clearly I have no clue. I’m not a big fan of Nordstrom Rack except for shoes and makeup, in those two areas, they rock. Sorry there isn’t one near you 🙁 The greenish-gold shade would look great on you!

  8. This is a nice palette for sure 😀

    1. I’m having fun with it 🙂

  9. I bought this, but I haven’t used it yet! I also couldn’t resist that greenish gold and the rose gold, which I think looks amazing on you.

    1. Oh, you must use it, Nidia! Those two shades are gorgeous, and I haven’t seen anything like the green-gold. Also, the blushes are really nice too. The only disappointment was the highlight.

  10. Those colors look gorgeous on you, Allison! I’m always surprised at how great the quality is in regards to Lorac products.

Middle of Nowhere Ohio doesn’t have Nordstrom Rack either. I suppose I could drive to the city, but… meh. LOL
Love the green-gold and rose-gold though! And that lip colour!!! Even if it did want to attach itself to your teeth. 😛

And on an entirely unrelated note, the mangled daylilies have survived! [insert MASSIVE sigh of relief] I did what I could to clean up the mess and then I just couldn’t bear to look at them anymore so I left them alone. Much to my surprise there are flowers out there! The shapes and spacing are a disaster (gonna have to move some of them since they were apparently knocked together) and they look ridiculously funny because most of the leaves are about a third as long as they should be (not to mention blunt-edged from where they were run over) but the majority seem to have made a decent-ish recovery. Even the one that I was sure was flat-out gone popped up a couple leaves, though at this point it looks more like a teeny tiny patch of grass than anything else. Oh well. I know it’s a flower, and as long as someone doesn’t yank it out thinking that it IS grass, it will eventually get larger. Right now the fact that it’s still there is enough for me.

    1. Congratulations on the survival of your lilies!!! I can’t believe you got flowers! Next year, they’ll be fine. I move and separated a large lily plant that was growing in an area that became too shady, and they look awful. Some of the foliage is turning yellow and brown, and I definitely don’t see any flower stalks/canes coming up. But hopefully next year, they’ll be fine. My yard has become much shadier over the 14 yrs I’ve lived here, and now a lot of my lilies are in shade. I don’t know what to do because I have nowhere to move them too and I don’t want hostas and astilbe everywhere!

      1. rach says:

Hey, I’m jealous that you can apparently KEEP astilbe! Every time we plant one it looks just fine until poof- dead and gone. There’s a lot of shade here too, so hostas are a favourite. They seem to enjoy their habitat more than the astilbe, at least! Wood poppy seems to enjoy it as well, so much so that I’m beginning to wonder if they’re planning on taking over.
The best sunny spot was the vegetable garden, which while nice to have, was getting away from us. Vegetables were not bringing joy (and a lot of them were being wasted or eaten by the raccoons) so we tore it out and moved all the sad shaded daylilies over there instead. Much improved. 😀

        1. I only have a couple of astilbe and they’re in a shaded garden where the weigela has grown so tall that I can’t see the poor astilbe. I should move it but then I’ll have a hole and weeds will take over so I don’t see them much. But I do like their colorful blooms and pretty-shaped leaves. I have two hosta gardens in my backyard and then more hostas in that shady garden in the front of my house. I don’t know what wood poppy is. Gotta look it up and see what I’m missing!!! I have always had a vegetable garden but my neighbor put up a 6 ft fence next to mine, then they planted birch trees right next to the fence that are now grown taller and further shading my veggie garden plus the birches now have black spot and they’re dropping their leaves on my garden. In addition to the vegetables that I usually grow, in that garden I have two clematis and about 3-5 rose bushes that are, of course, highly susceptible to black spot. I would like to poison the birches so they’ll just die and get it over with but I don’t know how to pull it off. Then, there are the rabbits that are taking over the ‘hood who think the garden is their salad bowl just like your raccoons! So this year, I only planted two tomato plants that are pining away and a few herbs that don’t look good in addition to the Egyptian onion that nothing can kill. I planted black-eyed Susans along one side, and they’ll be taking over the garden soon. But putting in the day lilies might be a good idea, though I have soooooo many different day lilies, it looks like I own a day lily farm. I need some diversity!

    1. I am happy with the palette. I really bought it just for the green-gold eye shadow and the other gorgeous metallics, the beautiful deep brown, and the two very pretty blushes were a bonus. I like Nordstrom Rack for the makeup and shoes, the fashion not so much.

  18. Ah, it seems like a decent palette and you got it at a fabulous price! Sometimes it pays to play the waiting game 🙂

The rose gold looks soooo pretty on your eye lids – really brings out your beautiful blue eyes.

I’m heading to The Rack today .. perhaps they’ll have this palette available – I’ll check it out.

    1. Nordstrom Rack is particularly wonderful for great prices on great brands of makeup and cosmetics/personal care like Bliss (altho sometimes girls play with or swatch the makeup which drives me crazy if there’s only one or two left!). And great selection and good prices on shoes. The clothing has been not so much for me. They also have nice MJ and Kate Spade purses and accessories but they’re still too expensive! You’ll enjoy it once it opens!

  23. I love the rose gold shadow- it really works on your skin tone. Lorac is hard to get in Canada since Sephora stopped carrying it, but I always keep an eye out for it on Hautelook.
