Lumene CC Cream Redux and My LOTD

Yesterday, I had to go to CVS to pick up a necessity. So I put on my mask and gloves and I went inside the store. I had to buy an OTC med that I was running out of, and I wanted to take advantage of some Extrabucks and a 35% discount that were expiring. I bought the med, and with all the discounts, I got the second box for free, and now I’m set for 3 months. Yay. But because it was on sale with a buy one, get one 50% off, I couldn’t use the 35% off coupon. Since there were only a couple of other shoppers in the store and they weren’t in the beauty aisles, I went back to see what I could pick up using the 35% off coupon.

What tempted me was an old favorite that I ran out of ages ago, and I thought was discontinued: Lumene Color Correcting Cream (originally reviewed here).

It was renamed (it used to be Lumene Time Freeze CC Cream) and repackaged, and I almost didn’t recognize it. I bought shade Light (it also comes in Ultra Light, Fair, Medium, Tan and Golden, though CVS carried 3 shades and the Lumene website only has 2 shades in stock). I was curious to see if the product seemed the same or if it had been reformulated.

The regular price was about $15, and with all the discounts, I got it for $7 and change. Not bad.

Lately, I have been so sick of not wearing any makeup and wearing the same casual tops every single day that I have been trying to make more of an effort. Although I don’t want to look too made up, I feel better if I am wearing some natural looking makeup. So I reached for the Lumene CC Cream.

Lumene CC Cream in shade Light is pretty much just as I remembered it from a few years ago.

The thing that I like most about it is that it is a medium coverage, buildable CC cream that is just short of full coverage. It just about covers my two dark spots completely, and it does a good job at under eye coverage. Yet it doesn’t feel greasy or heavy. And it feels like velvet on my skin. In fact, Lumene is my favorite CC cream for those reasons.

Is it perfect? No, but it’s very good. The shade Light is just a bit yellow for my pink skin tone, but it’s close enough.

The SPF is 20, and I wish it were 30. But I can add sunscreen if I’m going to be outdoors for a while.

It has no discernible fragrance.

If you’re looking for a CC cream with excellent coverage that doesn’t feel heavy, Lumene CC Cream is worth a look.

As long as I was trying out CC cream, I decided I would put on some makeup. I was making my bi-monthly trip to the supermarket, so I thought it might be nice to look presentable. But then I remembered I would be wearing a mask, so it probably didn’t matter at all, lol. Nevertheless, I wore makeup today because I wanted to use some of the items I got in my Ipsy bag, etc.

makeup items that I used for my look of the day

Here’s what I wore:

  • Lumene CC Cream, shade Light, applied with my favorite Artis knock-off brush, a cheapy from Precision Beauty that I think I got at Ocean State Job Lot
  • a couple of dabs of Judith August Orange Masking Creme concealer trio
  • Milk Makeup Kush Mascara: I can’t believe it, but I really am liking this volumizing mascara. It definitely takes a bit more work than my usual lengthening mascaras, but I love how fat and soft my lashes are with it.
  • Estée Lauder Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner, shade Graphite: Graphite is a dark grey shade, almost charcoal. I wore the Tarteist Eyeliner Duo yesterday, and I forgot that black is actually too black for me at this stage of the game. A grey shade looks softer and much less harsh on me.
  • Shaina B. Mini Miami Eyeshadow Palette, matte shades BisqueCayne (ivory) and CafeCito (dark chocolate): I relived my youth with ivory on the lid and chocolate in the crease and the V. I always like that color combo/look. I thought it was an appropriately natural-fish look. BTW, I love this palette that I got in my April Ipsy Plus bag. The shades are buttery and very pigmented. Last night I was playing with the bronze shimmer shadow, EverGlade, and it is a stunner – even without primer it was intense and looooooong lasting. The mini palette was unique to Ipsy, but the regular size Miami palette with 14 shades (including a couple of brights) is priced at $29. I think it is really worth it: a good mix of mattes and shimmers in neutrals, metals and brights, here.
  • MAC Prep + Prime Lip Base
  • Melt Lipgloss, shade Séance: I am so happy that I can wear this stunning rose gold gloss, now that I have a lip base that works! It appears that Melt Cosmetics including their online presence is currently closed, but hoping to come back online in May.

So this was my going-to-the-supermarket look for Thursday. The Lumene CC Cream is wearing very well, and my Shaina B. eyeshadows look as fresh as when I applied them earlier today.

Hooray for makeup!

    1. Thank you, Sandy xoxo I am so happy that I can wear this lipgloss again since my MAC Prep + Prime discovery 🙂 It’s been raining and cold here this week, all but one day. But this afternoon, the temperature started to approach 60, and it’s going to be nice tomorrow, except for an afternoon shower of course, and beautiful and warm on Sunday. I can hardly wait. Hope you are doing well!
