Luxie Rose Gold Kabuki Brush Set

Ipsy introduced me to Luxie makeup brushes. So far, I have received at least 10 Luxie brushes in my Ipsy bags over the years. Most of them are the pretty pink handled brushes with the rose gold ferrule, the metal piece that holds the bristles in place. I love them, and find myself reaching for them often.

Luxie makes cruelty-free, vegan, synthetic bristled makeup brushes. The company is based in the U.S., but the brushes are made in China. I’d say they’re very good quality, affordable brushes. I’d call them mid-priced: not the cheapest, and certainly not in the top tier price wise. They have lots of different sets that make the brushes even more affordable. They can be purchased on the Luxie website, at Nordstrom, REVOLVE, BH Cosmetics, and on Ipsy’s website. In addition to Ipsy, Luxie also has relationships with Boxycharm and Glossybox. I’ll bet you have some in your collection!

About a month ago, Ipsy – that seems to be moving more into the retail arena these days – advertised a promotional price on the Luxie Rose Gold Kabuki Brush Set, a set of 5 face makeup brushes. The promotional price was $20! The regular price for the set is $54. Since I prefer kabuki brushes for many tasks, especially foundation, blush and powder application, I didn’t hesitate. Ipsy paid for the shipping, and they arrived about a week later.

The packaging of the Luxie Rose Gold Kabuki Brush Set is attractive and very clever. A sturdy rose gold edged presentation box slips into a heavy black and rose gold cardboard sleeve.

Inside the presentation box is a case that holds the brushes upright, sort of a brush caddy. Very handy!

The brush heads are densely packed with super-soft synthetic bristles for a diffuse, airbrushed look. They feel lovely on my skin. The brushes are easy to control, and they make face makeup application a cinch. They work well with powder, creams and liquid makeup.

The bristles are coated with an imperceptible anti-bacterial coating to help them stay more sanitary. After use, I’ve found the bristles are easy to clean with either Clean Apothecary or Blendercleanser Solid or Ulta’s brush cleaning spray.

The set includes:

  • 530 Flat Top Kabuki
  • 532 Round Top Blender
  • 534 Angled Top Buffer
  • 536 Pointed Top Buffer
  • 538 Flat Angled Blender

The brushes I use most often are the Flat Angled Blender, the Flat Top Kabuki and the Angled Top Buffer. The only one that I haven’t used yet is the Pointed Top Buffer. It’s suggested that it can be used to apply concealer to imperfections or powder under eyes, but I prefer a concealer brush for those tasks. What do you use a pointed top brush for?

Sadly, the $20 promotional price for the Luxie Rose Gold Kabuki Brush Set is over, but I still think the set is worth $54, the MSRP that makes each brush less than $11. Bought individually, Luxie brushes range from about $12-25.

However, if you are an Ipsy subscriber, you can buy the Rose Gold Kabuki Brush Set for $43.20 (which is 20% off) and then you get another 20% in cash back from Ipsy, so it ends up costing $34.56. Although that seems complicated, it really isn’t. I think it’s worth it. Ipsy offers the same 20% off plus 20% cash back for all the Luxie brushes they carry including sets and individual brushes. Definitely worth a look.

Are you a fan of kabuki brushes? Have you tried Luxie brushes?

On a completely different subject, my friend DiEtta, just let me know that there’s a big sale on HSN today with jumbo sizes of my favorite StriVectin TL Advanced Neck Cream and TL Advanced Face Cream, both for $99. That is a huge deal! The regular size of the Neck Cream alone is usually priced around $90+. So if you’re a fan or you like thick, effective, firming creams, now’s the time to pounce.

That being said I think I’m going to have to jump on the set and it might just be worth jumping back on Ipsy for those discounts and cash back. Since you brought up Ipsy, are you doing the Ipsy plus? Or just sticking with regular Ipsy?

    1. I did go with Ipsy Plus, and I reviewed it on Monday/yesterday. The bag had good value, good assortment, but I’ve had some problems with 3 of the 6 products. I wrote to Ipsy about it and we’ll see if they get back to me about it.
