MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot: Layin’ Low

MAC had a 20% off sale after Memorial Day for their Select members (all you have to do is sign up, no purchase requirements), and when they added in free shipping, bingo. Time for me to add to my collection of Paint Pots. The Paint Pots are creamy, highly pigmented, long wearing, easy to apply and blend cream shadows that are perfect for my dry lids.

Originally, I bought Painterly, the pale pink nude cream shadow reviewed here, that makes a wonderful base or a nice everyday shade to wear on its own. I wear it all the time. I also bought Antique Diamond, a sparkly silver grey shade. It’s a nice topper or nighttime shadow.

Recently I noticed that MAC decreased the number of Paint Pots shades rather substantially, boo. In fact, I wish I had known they were on sale for $13 on Nordstrom Rack where they’re now just about sold out except for black and brown. Maybe I’m one of the few who loves cream shadows. So I better keep buying them if I want them to remain around.

I had planned to go to Macy’s to look at the actual shades of Paint Pots, but I called first to see if they had them in stock. The sales associate told me that they weren’t allowed to offer the discount. Oh boo. So when MAC decided to throw in free shipping, I ordered online and took a chance on the shade I chose.

Now, MAC offers 7 shades, a mix of mattes, pearls and shimmers. I chose Layin’ Low, described as “creamy beige”. When it arrived, it looked less like “creamy beige” and more like browned peach like the swatch I saw online. Yay. Definitely a shade that will suit me with my red hair.

When I first opened Layin’ Low, I wondered if it was different enough from Painterly. And when I compared the two shades, they are definitely different enough. Take a look.

Right now, I’m still not feeling that great, and I’m Layin’ Low. So I haven’t worn it yet, but as soon as I feel better, I will be dying to try this new for me shade as well as the sample mascara that I got: MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash. It has a long wand with more teeth concentrated at the top, and it looks promising. I’ll let you know.

MAC Paint Pots don’t dry out, at least mine that are a year old are still super creamy. The Pots contain 5 g/0.17 oz. and for me, they last a very long time. So far, I haven’t finished one. The regular price is $22.

I love these Paint Pots. Do they appeal to you?

I love love love my MAC makeup!

PS- you’re not feeling well ? I’ll have to PM you 😘

    1. Thanks again, Lois! I think I had a stomach bug, but today I feel better. MAC has so many great products. But it’s hard to keep up – they are coming out with so many new products constantly and discontinuing a lot of products too.

  2. I am so sorry that you are still feeling under the weather, I hope that you get over this bug quickly! I love MAC Paint Pots, and have used them for many many years! I didn’t realize that they discontinued so many shades!

    1. Thank you, Helen! I’m feeling better today. I didn’t realize how many shades were discontinued either till I went to place my order. Boo hoo!

  3. I have a friend who uses Painterly every day as her eye primer and concealer in one.

    1. Painterly works so well the way your friend uses it.

  4. MAC has discontinued a lot of well loved products which is too bad. Shadows last so well with Paint Pots. I still have Antique Diamond and 2 others. I should get Painterly again.

    1. I didn’t realize that MAC was discontinuing products across the board, but then they seem to be introducing new products/collections constantly. That’s cool that you have Antique Diamond too, it’s a fun shade. I use Painterly so often, I hope you do get it again some day, but it’s so popular, I don’t think they’ll discontinue that one

Well boo on them for reducing your paint pot options! I never got around to trying any of those, though I’ve always heard nice things. But MAC always seems to be changing things up, so I’m almost afraid to get hooked on anything, lest it just disappear.
    Feel better!

    1. Some day you should definitely try the Painterly Paint Pot. It’s the most perfect eye base ever. And it’s so popular, they won’t discontinue it. Thank you, I feel somewhat better now.

  6. I’m also a cream shadow lover, but oddly enough I’ve never tried MAC’s Paint Pots! I need to grab a couple next time there’s a sale.

  7. Layin Low looks like my kind of shade while Painterly looks really light.
