Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons

I’m a fan of lip crayons because they’re so easy to use.

So I was delighted to receive two shades from the new Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon collection to try out for review from Influenster, the online social media influencer group.

They came nicely packaged in the traditional Marc Jacobs black boxes. The crayons themselves are a definite cut above just about all of the other lip crayons I’ve tried. They have a snap tight top that prevents mishaps in my purse or makeup bag.

Shades

Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons come in a variety of shades from nudes to reds to edgier shades like deep purple and black: 10 shades in all. The two shades I got were neutrals, variations on mauve shades:

  • Night Mauves: on me, it’s a MLBB shade, just about the exact same color as my lips
  • Send Nudes: a deep mauvey-nude with brown undertones.

I wear Night Mauves more often because it’s a great daytime shade.

In all honesty, though Send Nudes is an interesting, more unusual shade, it’s more than a little out of my wheelhouse because of the brown. I will keep playing around with it though by trying it with eye looks with browns and peach and peachy blush. One thing that I noticed more strongly with Send Nudes is that it has a bit of a shimmer that adds some dimensionality to the shade. I went to the Marc Jacobs website to see if there’s any info on that, and there is! The Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons are formulated with what they call “ghost pearl” so that the color doesn’t look as flat as most matte liquid lipsticks do.

Formula: Application and Wear

What’s most interesting about Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons is the innovative formula. It’s called a Liquid Lip Crayon, and though it doesn’t exactly feel like liquid, it’s kind of like a mousse in stick form. It glides on like a creamy mousse. And it is so lightweight that it’s almost imperceptible on my lips.

A couple of things I learned while playing with these lip crayons is not to use too much pressure (that’s totally unnecessary anyway)  during application because I managed to snap off the tip. A plus is that these crayons have a twist up feature so I don’t need to search for my sharpener. The downside, like with all lip crayons with twist up features, is that once the point is gone, it’s gone forever. Starting out by lining my lips with a lip pencil helps a lot like I did in the swatch above for Send Nudes (uh oh, the sunlight washed out the lip pencil on one side of my lips!).

Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons dry to a matte finish. Truth be told, my desert-dry lips can’t wear any matte lipsticks without lip balm underneath. So I apply these over my beloved Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm. Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons are long wearing lip crayons, and they last for hours. The website says they last for 16 hours – perhaps a bit of an exaggeration in real life. When drinking, a bit of the lipstick comes off on the glass but not nearly as much as with regular lipsticks or glosses. Over time, the color turns into a stain. Also, the Liquid Lip Crayon dries down and can accentuate my lip lines. To remedy that, I’ll apply a dot of balm on top.

Final Thoughts

I’m having fun with the Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons I received from Influenster to try out for review. I probably wouldn’t have purchased them on my own because they’re, well, matte. But the liquid/mousse formula and the “ghost pearl” finish make Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons well worth trying if you’re a fan of matte lipstick.

After wearing the lip crayons off and on for about 2 weeks, I think that they’re probably best for younger people or for those who don’t have dry lip problems. Though they are not as drying as some matte lipsticks, they still dry down. If you do want to try this light as a feather lippie and you have lips on the dry side, lip balm underneath and occasionally on top will be your friend. I would love to try this Liquid Lip Crayon in one of the red shades.

$26 and sold on the Marc Jacobs website, Sephora, Sephora at JCPenney, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, NET-A-PORTER, and other fine retailers.

*I received these lip crayons free from Influenster for review, but the opinions above are honest and my own.

Be still my heart….. My first thought was when I it stops snowing and warms up I am ready to head to Sephora to check theses out. But then I read the whole post. Nope, nada, no way is this the right product for my parched lips. I need a lush and creamy lipstick. But do I really need another lippie? Probably not, so even though these products are gorgeous I will pass.

    1. Sandy, I think that’s the right decision. I was thrilled that I got another chance to try more Marc Jacobs makeup via Influenster, but I was a little surprised that they picked me for this box because of my age. These lip crayons have the coolest formula, but unfortunately on my dry, mature lips it’s not a totally great match.

  2. The mauve shade is gorgeous! I’m not a fan of that nude one either. I wish I could wear mattes better and feel comfortable in them. But they do look amazing on young plump lips for sure!

    1. I agree with you 100%, Stacie: mattes are perfect on young lips!

  3. I almost purchased the new Sephora Favorites Lip Kit that’s out that has the Marc Jacobs Liquid Lip Crayon in it just because of the Marc Jacobs Lip Crayon. I ultimately didn’t because they were all shades that I wasn’t particularly thrilled with.

    1. Oh, that’s too bad about the shades not suiting you, Cassie. I found that Night Mauves really suits me, but Send Nudes not so much. I also like reds, and I wouldn’t mind trying one of those.

  4. Both shades are gorgeous! I have yet to try ANYTHING from the Marc Jacobs makeup line. You know I love my dry mattes, so this is in my wheelhouse 🙂

    1. I am sure you would love them, Judy. You wear liquid mattes so well. The formula for these new Liquid Lip Crayons is so innovative: glides on, long lasting, super-pigmented!

  5. Both shades are beautiful! I don’t own any lip crayons but I really dig these.

    1. Although pricey, the Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons are absolutely amazing if you can wear matte lipsticks. They glide on, feel like you’re wearing nothing, and are super-pigmented. I know you’d love ’em, Courtney!

  6. These sound amazing, and the Send Nudes is my kind of color.

  7. The shades they sent you are pretty! I have dry lips these days so I’m staying away from anything matte

    1. So the gorgeous Au Naturel shade that you’ve been wearing isn’t a matte??? I love that lipstick but I assumed I couldn’t wear it!

  8. These are both beautiful, and I think that both colors are quite lovely. However, anything drying on the lips, especially during these cold months, is a no-go for me!

    1. Same here. If I apply it over balm, I’m good, but the balm is a necessity for me with any matte lippie.

  9. Night Mauves looks like my kinda color!

    1. You look great in every shade!

    1. I have the MJ Edgi-torial Eye Palette, and it is a stunner. These liquid lip crayons have amazing pigmentation and the slippery formula makes application a dream!

  17. The shades are pretty, but you mentioned they are better for those without dry lips, so that’s a no go for me. My lips definitely prefer a glossier finish!

    1. Glosses are my jam too!

  18. I have been super into MJ Beauty lately! Sorry these didn’t work for you.

    1. I wear Night Mauves over lip balm because I love the shade. I think it is better for younger lips, but it’s such a beauty and is so cool to apply that I still enjoy wearing it.

  19. Every start of a new year I tell myself that I should use more lipproducts and end up not doing so! Maybe this will be the year for a change and lipcrayons sounds smart to me.

    1. Yes, it’s a perfect everyday shade.

  23. I was wondering what these were like. The Send Nude looks so dark on the swatch but I like it on your lips.

    1. Thanks, Marcia! I still think it’s a little too dark and too brown for me, but it’s fun to play around with. I’m quite taken with Night Mauves. The Liquid Lip Crayon has such an unusual formula – applying it is so much fun. Wish my lips weren’t so dry so I could wear it often, but alas, no.

  24. I’m always worried that these lip crayons will be dry and kind of gunky, that’s typically my experience with them anyway. Too bad these are a dud because that night mauves is totally my kind of color.
Katie Nystuen recently posted…Untried A-Z Challenge Letter AMy Profile

    1. Katie, these are not duds at all! That’s bad if I gave that impression. They are the smoothest, buttery/liquidy, highly pigmented matte lip crayons! I am probably a lot older than you, and I have very dry lips and can’t wear most matte lipsticks. I do wear Night Mauves with lip balm underneath because the color is so beautiful. If you like matte lipsticks, this one is wonderful.

  25. I am not much for lip products in crayon form, due to the breakage or constant sharpening issues. These look like solid options for lip crayons though.

  26. The formula on these sounds really enjoyable to wear!
