Marc Jacobs Cosmetics recently introduced a limited edition collection of mini versions of the Highliner Gel Crayons, sold exclusively at Sephora. I first heard about it a couple of weeks ago, but when I read about the collection and saw the photos and swatches on Prime Beauty Blog here, Cindy easily convinced me that I had to splurge on this set. Although I’ve been a long time Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner Pencil lover, I had to stray to try these beauties.
There’s a big difference between regular eyeliner pencils and these gel crayons. The gel crayons are so soft and smooth, so easy to apply without the tugging that you can sometimes get with a pencil.
They are definitely waterproof. I found that out when I did swatches on my arm. Not only could I not smudge them, I couldn’t remove them with soap and water! I had to use makeup remover to get them off. The only time I find that the color does transfer a bit is when I tightline with the black crayon, a little does come off on my lower waterline, but I can live with that. That said, the Marc Jacob Highliner Gel Crayons stay on all day for me.
Two things captivated me about this collection:
- the petite/mini size
- the stunning jewel-tone colors.
I’m all about minis these days. As I’ve said, I have a ton of makeup and I love the possibility of actually finishing something up before I have to throw it out. The SA at Sephora tried to convince me to buy a second set, since these are a limited edition and they are flying off the shelves. But who knows, there may be another collection of shades I want to buy in the spring 😉
There are seven 0.37g/0.01 oz twist up pencils in the collection. I have no idea how much product that actually is, and I hope it’ll last beyond a couple of weeks, especially the deep, rich black that I use every day!
The shades are given evocative, clever names:
- O(vert): olive green
- Brown(out): rich brown
- Sunset: metallic copper
- Midnight in Paris: blue/green/black shade shifter with a sheen
- Th(ink): navy blue
- Plum(age): purple
- Blaquer: black.
Five of the seven shades are matte, one is metallic and one has a bit of bling, but not too much. Although I adore Sunset, the copper shade, that one doesn’t show up quite as well on my lid as I would like. But when I look at the pix, it’s not too bad. I have to try it with lighter shades of eyeshadow and see if that helps. Here it is. What do you think?
Like all Marc Jacob products, the Sky-Liner Petite Highliner Collection is elegantly packaged with a beautiful shiny black silver trimmed outer box over a heavy black plastic case to store the silver crayons.
Though fingerprints are an issue, it’s OK because the packaging is so darn gorgeous!
The price for the Marc Jacobs Sky-Liner Petite Highliner Collection is $45. If you’re interested, act fast because they will sell out. I’m enjoying mine. Thanks, Cindy, for being my enabler!
These liners are among my favorites. Great colors and wear!

Sunset is my favorite too. Tried it again yesterday over a lighter shadow, and it showed up much better.
These look gorgeous. They might be my first Marc Jacobs purchase.

They look gorgeous! I’ll definitely check them out.

They are definitely work checking out, Gio. Even though they are rather pricey, they have replaced my other eyeliners because they are so much easier to apply and they stay on.
Oh, this is tempting! I have one Marc Jacobs eyeliner in brown and it wears fairly well on me (nothing is fool proof and will smudge as I have oily skin).
Sunset is so pretty!
Monica.

It’s too bad there’s no way to sample eyeliners, Monica. On me, these go nowhere except when applied to my upper waterline when first applied. And because they’re waterproof even with makeup remover, they require a bit of scrubbing. The shades are very, very pretty and Sunset is my fave too…although the navy blue and the purple are beautiful too! And I use the black everyday 🙂
Wow, aren’t these gorgeous?! And I love the packaging. Also agree on the mini size, it’s just not necessary to have everything full sized.

Yes, I really fell for these, Deborah. I think they were worth the splurge!
This is on my wishlist, I hope I can get it, when budget allows before it’s gone. Those liners are so pretty!

They really are worth the splurge for me, Erika. They go on so smoothly and stay put. The colors are like jewels.

That’s great, Agata! Which shade highliner do you have?
All the colors are so pretty ! It’s also a nice way to get to try things from the brand.

I agree, Betzy. A full size high liner is $25. 7 minis for $45 seems like a good deal 🙂
What a beautiful set! I hear they work amazingly, too!
Yes, as I said, they are a cinch to apply and they stay on till you take ’em off (except for the waterline, lol)!
I like the top 3

Thanks again, Cindy! I don’t splurge on brands like MJ that often, but your review just made me have to have them. And I love them!
The shades are great!
It’s a great combo of blackest black and shades that are somewhat more unusual than others. The Midnight in Paris duo is gorgeous.
These look great, glad I saw this review in time to add them to my Sephora friends and family sale order.

So happy I posted this in time for your Sephora FF haul, Mercedes. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed 🙂
I have most of Marc Jacobs eyeliners because they don’t irritate my eyes. Blacquer is my go-to for waterline.
Kath TheFabZilla recently posted…Tom Ford Lip Color Matte :: Velvet Cherry and Pussycat (Review, Swatch, Photos)
I use Blaquer for my upper waterline/tightline, Kathryne. I get a little transfer onto the bottom if I blink, as I always do, before it dries, but I can live with that!
I need these in my life right now!

You can just buy that shade in a full size, Lisa, for $25. I use Plumage, Sunset & Blacquer the most. Love ’em!
