March Ipsy Plus Bag: Power Moves

I Bought This, Affiliate Links

My March Ipsy Plus Bag arrived this past week. The theme is Power Moves, a name that’s supposed to imply self-care and being in charge.

The bag itself was imprinted with a cute 3D box print in bright and pastel hues. I like it.

In March, I got to choose 3 of the 5 products, though I can’t say that I had lots of items I wanted among the choices. I bought three add-ons this month and redeemed some Ipsy points for a product as well.

My “Power Moves” Cosmetics

Here’s what I got:

Vitabrid C12 Wrinkle Serum: This serum was chosen for me by Ipsy. But, in spite of the fact that I have a million serums, I was happy to receive it. Vitabrid C12 is a fantastic premium hair and skincare brand founded by a Korean chemist that I used to get at Barneys NY before the store went out of business. It is top quality and usually quite pricey. Their claim to fame is Vitabrid CG, a unique stabilized form of vitamin C. I just found out that the “12” in the brand name, Vitabrid C12, represents the fact that the Vitabrid CG form of vitamin C “delivers pure vitamin C into the skin for 12 hours“! Now that got my attention 🙂 I haven’t tried the Wrinkle Serum yet, but it is also supposed to firm and revitalize with peptides. I may decide to devote a review to this product once I have used it for a while. $72

Alleyoop 4-in-1 Makeup Brush Multi-tasker: Marcia also got the Alleyoop Multi-tasker in her Boxycharm box this month. It has a fluffy, angled powder/contour/blush brush on one end and a blending sponge on the other end as well as two hidden tools, an angled brow/liner brush and a handy medium size eyeshadow brush. What a terrific tool for travel or otherwise! It’s vegan, cruelty-free and latex-free. I look forward to trying it. $28

Yensa Pumpkin Turmeric 2-in-1 Radiance Polishing Mask: Pumpkin is rich in vitamin A, I think, and it is supposed to help boost collagen. Who doesn’t want that? I have liked the pumpkin masks I’ve tried in the past. This was the second product that Ipsy picked for me. Yensa is a “clean beauty” brand. I’ve tried some of their makeup in the past via Ipsy, and it was nice. So I am happy to try their skincare. $20

Shades by Shan Hydrating Primer: To be honest, I am hooked on Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer, but since this is supposed to be a hydrating primer, I figured why not try it. It’s infused with olive extract and coconut water (the coconut water sounds similar to a primer that I use sometimes from First Aid Beauty). I read through the reviews, and the majority were favorable. I went to the website to learn more about the primer, and it wasn’t listed. Ipsy must have gotten it as a closeout. Boo, I hate when they do that. BTW, Shades by Shan is a San Francisco based company started in 2018. A portion of their sales goes to support single mothers. $26

Chella Beauty Good Drama Mascara: Although I have plenty of mascaras right now, there wasn’t anything else calling to me. I’ve tried other Chella eye products, and they’ve been good. It turns out this one is “water resistant”. I’m not sure what that means exactly. I usually avoid waterproof mascaras because they can be difficult to remove. Nevertheless, perhaps this water resistant mascara will be a good one to wear when I go to my hair appointments in Boston? It looks like it has a wand with plastic teeth like I prefer. $25

Value of the March Plus Bag

My March Ipsy Plus Bag is valued at $171, and I paid $28 for it plus shipping. From a cost standpoint, that’s a good value. Clearly, the Vitabrid C12 Wrinkle Serum was the best product in my bag.

However, the March bag wasn’t all that exciting. I had a somewhat difficult time choosing products that I was eager to try. But that’s how it goes with Ipsy.

Ipsy Add-Ons

As I’ve said several times, I really like the add-ons. I’ve discovered some good products for $3 or $12. Though I haven’t bought any, their “bundles” with several products on a theme for higher costs seem to be very good values especially for those starting out to build their makeup or skincare collection.

Here’s what I bought this month:

First Aid Beauty Hyaluronic Acid Eye Cream, travel size $3: I’m a fan of FAB, so I figured I should try their hydrating eye cream. I will through it in my purse makeup bag or I’ll use it on my eyelids/crease and under eye when I use up the CeraVe eye cream I bought recently.

Tatcha Dewy Mist, travel size $3: A couple of years ago, I received a full size Dewy Mist to try out for review from Tatcha. It was lovely and expensive. I was happy to have a mini to use for $3 especially when Tatcha charges $20 for it!

Refreshments (Ipsy’s private label brand) Shower Cap in Bunny Slippers design, $3: My old blue plastic shower cap from Walmart has seen better days. This adorable waterproof shower cap with a more form-fitting design and cute bow in the front seemed like a real step up! The outer shell with the pink and green design is a soft, polyester-type fabric, and the inner lining is the waterproof part. So far, I have only used it once, but it worked well. The regular price on it is $15. I wasn’t surprised to find out in the reviews that not everyone who purchased it received it because it sold out!

Points Redemption

I accumulated quite a few points from Ipsy by reviewing products I received, and some of them were about to expire. Fortunately, there was actually something in stock that I decided to order with my points to giveaway on the blog, so stay tuned.

It’s a small palette called Cosmic Glitz from a new-to-me brand, Formula Z. It  looks like it has one matte shade, 2 shimmers and three glitter shades. Looks like it would be fun for a night out!

    1. I’m psyched to try the Vitabrid C12 Wrinkle Serum, and I hope someday I’ll try some more of their skincare products. I didn’t know that the “12” in the brand name represents the fact that their form of pure vitamin C gets delivered into the skin for 12 hours, woo hoo!
