I had some CVS Extrabucks, and CVS had a couple of great 30% off coupons since the beginning of March. So I took advantage of the situation and purchased a couple of items I needed and a couple I wanted to try.
Maybelline has really been rockin’ it IMHO. It was the first brand of makeup I ever used (by stealing my mother’s mascara), and it really has been creating makeup that lots of us want to try. Definitely value and beauty in the drugstore.
I picked up four Maybelline products: a replacement for a product I used up, a new shade, and two are new products.
Dream Wonder Powder
Dream Wonder Powder is the one that I used up recently. It lasted a long time, but I used it all up! I never did a full review on this lovely powder. I use it to set my foundation, and I love that it’s not cakey, and it doesn’t settle into my lines. Yay. The compact contains 0.19 oz/5.5 g. It’s priced around $8.99.
Color Tattoo Limited Edition
I love cream eye shadow, so I have a big collection of Color Tattoos. I picked up Rose Riot, a cool-toned pale pink shimmer shadow that just came out as a limited edition. This shadow is very pale pink that’s almost sheer. It catches the light, but it doesn’t have strong color. And it looked so pretty in the pot. I love the creaminess of this shade because it’s much easier to apply than some of the stiff Color Tattoos. I’m just not sure if there’s enough color payoff with this shade to make using it worthwhile. It may go back to the store, boo hoo. It was priced at $7.49.
Master Conceal
I read a review of Master Conceal, the new concealer recently added to the Maybelline Master series, and it sounded like a must try. It is. Although they have quite a number of shades to choose from, I had a bit of a hard time finding a good match. I chose Fair, and it’s a shade too light for my skin. But the next shade up is too yellow for me. When I rub or brush it in, it works and under my eyes gives me a bit of a highlighted look. A little goes a very long way with this full coverage concealer, so it’ll last me forever. The tube contains 0.4 fl. oz/12 ml. The price is around $8.99.
Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipcolor
Mattes are everywhere this year, and Maybelline is no exception. I tried one of the new shades that I found in a new LE-looking display on the Maybelline wall at CVS along with nail color. The lipstick is part of the Color Sensational line, and the “Creamy Mattes” include 10 shades.
I found this matte lipstick to be extremely comfortable to wear, not drying to my sensitive dry lips at all. It is quite long-lasting, but I haven’t timed the length of wear. It goes on quite easily but it is not opaque in a single swipe. It requires two or three swipes for full opacity.
I like the shade I chose, Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor Craving Coral, because I was craving an orange shade. I really wanted full-on orange, but they didn’t seem to have one in this line. The pretty red-orange will have to do for now. I like it! It’s priced around $5.99.

Also, here’s a quick pic of me wearing the new Rose Riot and also the Dream Wonder Powder. I applied the Rose Riot in the inner corner and middle of my eyelid and I used Color Tattoo matte Vintage Plum from Fall 2014 in the crease and V. The closeup below is without mascara so you can see the shadow color better. BTW, the lipstick is Milani Color Statement Matte Orchid. I was going to wear the Maybelline lippie but orchid looks better with the eyeshadow than red, don’tcha think?
What do you think? Should I keep or return Rose Riot???
Rose Riot looks nice on you for a no fuss fresh Spring look. I like that it does not seem like it would pull the red from my eye balls. My eyes are irritated looking from not using my Restatis. I love the Dream Wonder powder too. And it does last for what seems like forever. I want to try Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in Electric Orange. Check it out you might like it.
I will check it out. I went to CVS looking for an orange in the Color Sensational line, and I thought there was a new one that wasn’t one of the Vivids but I couldn’t find it. I’ve got more extra bucks and I’ll look for Electric Orange. Hoping it’s not fluorescent, lol
Me too. 😉 I have only seen an online pic of the shade. I know pictures can be deceiving but from the one I saw it is thankfully not neon. I hope that is the case in real life. Because I rarely drive I have yet to be able to see it but hope to soon.

Laura, I went to CVS yesterday and they had Electric Neon or whatever the name was, but the label was so bright. I chickened out!!! I hope that’s OK. I bought a slightly less orange shade from Revlon. I’ll show it soon.
I’m glad you’re having good weather. It snowed here last night and till about 1pm today, but it has warmed up to 40 degrees and the sun has come out, wanly, but it’s out nonetheless. 🙂

I haven’t tried much new stuff from Maybelline, the drugstore stuff was getting out of hand heheh. I love that lipstick though, I have a few shades in their pretty new hot pink packaging.

Maybelline has been really putting out great products recently. I picked up one of the new LE Color Tattoos too, mine is Hibiscus Heartbreak, haven’t swatched it yet though. I hope it has a good pigmentation.

You look so pretty! Maybelline was the first brand of make-up I ever tried too. lol Seems like so long ago. This concealer sounds lovely. I’ve been looking for a new creamy full-coverage concealer. I think the Color Tattoo came in a deeper shade too. Maybe that’ll have a better color pay-off? Luck you though, I haven’t seen the LE Spring color tattoos.

Also, I may see if they have NYX shadow sticks coz I saw a nice review of those. On the Maybelline Master Conceal, I really like it. A little goes a very long way. There are about 7 or 8 shades, I think, but a little dicey to choose without seeing the shade in person. The Fair that I got is very light but I'd rather go light than too dark! If you pick one up, let me know what you think!

I feel like we all first get into makeup by “borrowing” from our mother’s stash. It’s like a rite of passage, haha! Rose Riot looks like it would make a good eyeshadow base. I would keep it, since I know they don’t crease on me, and it’s always good to have one on hand. Though you could always return it if you want an eyeshadow that will work well on its own!

Yeah, I’m on the fence. I have Color Tattoo Nude Pink for a base or on its own, so I wanted Rose Riot for the rose pink shade. Not sure what to do! But thanks for weighing in, Sammi, on my big decision lol

Thanks so much, Valerie! The powder really is wonderful. I bought Ben Nye Loose Finishing Powder in Cameo a while back, and I was disappointed that it settled into my lines. The Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder really is a dream. So easy to apply and it doesn’t cake up at all! I probably should return the Rose Riot, but I don’t have another cool pink shimmer shade so I had high hopes for this one. The Color Tattoos usually are quite pigmented, so the sheerness of this one surprised me. I still have the receipt so maybe it’ll go back 😉

I looked at Black Orchid today at CVS and I considered picking it up because I’ve heard good things about it, but I thought it looked quite similar to the matte Vintage Plum that I own and wear a lot. At any rate, I was disappointed in this sheer one, Rose Riot, that looks so different in the pot.
Nice haul. I think I would return Rose Riot, because I´m not a fan of this type of sheer eye shadows (but that´s me 🙂 ).

I’m on the fence, Leelo, about whether to return it. I don’t have another shade like it so that’s my hesitation. I agree, I don’t like sheer shadow especially a cream shadow! The Color Tattoos are usually quite pigmented so this is a disappointment.
I LOVE the color of that new lipstick! Usually the Color Tattoos are more pigmented, but I think it looks lovely on you. I also have the concealer and luckily the Fair works with my skin tone (for now.)

I like the new lipstick too, and the Master Conceal is just a tad light for me but it helps to brighten my under eye area so it works fine. And I agree, the Color Tattoos are usually very pigmented. I’m a bit disappointed in this one, but I’ll probably end up keeping it.
That’s too bad about the Colour Tatoo, the shade looks so pretty in the pan. Love that lipstick on you though!

Great haul! I’ve been looking for the new Color Tattoos, but I haven’t found them anywhere yet. I’m *trying* to limit my collection to just a few cream shadows because they tend to try up quickly. But, I really like Rose Riot! I think it would really pop with a light pink or champagne shadow over top!

I saw them again at another CVS today in a display with LE lipgloss. I was hoping it would have enough pigment on its own rather than using it as a base. I wore it along with Vintage Plum that has plenty of pigmentation, and I own about 10 of these and they all show up. I must say I’m a bit disappointed in this one. I will try it as you suggest!
Have you tried putting Rose Riot over another pink? I think the shimmer is pretty, but if it’s too much trouble to use, it’ll just sit in a drawer.. better to use that $$ for something you’ll like, right?

I don’t really have another cool pink like this, Nidia, so I had high hopes for this one. I have Color Tattoo in Nude Pink that’s a flesh tone. Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll try it on top of the Nude Pink as a base on top of my primer, and maybe that’ll help. I’ll definitely give that a try.

Yes, I think you should keep Rose Riot .. it’s so pretty with your blue eyes. When I saw Rose Riot on Holly Eats Lipstick youtube channel – I though it was too light so that’s why I went with Black Orchid.

I probably should have gone with Black Orchid. In fact, I looked it again yesterday, but I thought it might be too close to Vintage Plum. I don’t have any cool pink shades which is why I was so hopeful that Rose Riot would work out. I will try Rose Riot again over a base on top of primer and see if that makes a difference.
If you don’t love the eye shadow, return it. I am definitely going to try that powder and the Craving Coral lipstick!

I’m going to try it over the Color Tattoo Nude Pink base, and if it still is sheer, I probably will trade it in for Black Orchid if I can find one in stock. You really should try the Dream Wonder Powder. I love it. And the Craving Coral shade is a beauty and the formula is so nice!
I’ve heard so many amazing things about the Dream Wonder line…I most definitely need to pick something up already! I had a Color Tattoo myself and absolutely LOVE it. They really do work like a charm, and I’m loving the springiness of the Rose Riot! Shimmer isn’t the easiest to pull off, but I think it looks nice!
