Marvis Toothpaste: A Little Italian Luxury for Everyday and Giveaway!

Who gets excited about toothpaste? I do!

Press Sample - Affiliate Links

I’m that old that I can remember when they first starting putting stripes in toothpaste. And I remember the tubes that stood up on the sink and looked kind of like a rocket ship. When I worked in advertising in New York, one of my accounts was for a new toothpaste from Colgate Palmolive, Dentaguard, that tasted like licorice. I was so sad when it was discontinued.

For years, I have wondered about Marvis, an Italian brand of toothpaste that I first saw at Caswell-Massey in New York. Lately, I’ve been seeing it at Eataly in Boston in the luxurious personal care section of the high-end Italian food store. I received a travel size in one of the makeup bags full of luxury skincare, makeup and personal care products that I got from Barney’s when I repurchased my favorite perfume last year. I took the sample size 0.5 oz. tube of Marvis Whitening Mint Toothpaste with me on our trip to Savannah, and I remembered thinking I should use it judiciously to make it last.

A few days after I got home, a package arrived for me from a PR company that contained 6 different flavors of Marvis Toothpaste in full size tubes. I hit the jackpot! The flavors include:

  • Ginger Mint
  • Jasmin Mint
  • Cinnamon Mint
  • Amarelli Licorice Mint
  • Aquatic Mint
  • Classic Strong Mint.

Their seventh flavor is Whitening Mint that I got in my Barney’s bag. I also discovered the Wonders of the World collection at C.O. Bigelow and Dermstore.com that includes: Rambas, Karakum and Royal. Here’s how they describe Rambas: “Inspired by the tropics, RAMBAS toothpaste has a fruity, velvety taste that combines peach and pineapple with a twist of sweet alphonso mango.” Here’s Karakum: “A sophisticated toothpaste flavor that combines the finest peppermint with the sweetness of orange juice and the enchanting and aromatic cardamom.” And finally, Royal: “A toothpaste with a unique, sophisticated flavor combining zesty italian lemon oil, tangerines. Fragrant rose extract and nutmeg. This blend enhanced with mint creates an exclusive sensation with an exhilarating tangy taste.”  How exotic!

From the regular collection, I’ve been using Ginger Mint, a soft mint with a slightly sweet gingery flavor.

Jeff has been using Jasmin Mint, an absolutely enchanting soft mint with a beautiful jasmine scent.

Frankly, I would say that the flavor added to the mint is more of a scent than the strong flavor, but they make using the toothpaste a heavenly experience.

So how do Marvis toothpastes perform? First, I don’t think that Marvis toothpaste contains fluoride since it isn’t listed in the ingredients below or on the Marvis website. So if you need or want fluoride for cavity protection, this isn’t the toothpaste for you. There’s fluoride in our water supply, so as an adult, I feel confident that I can use a non-fluoride toothpaste.

Ingredients Classic Strong Mint: Glycerin, Aluminum Hydroxide, Aqua (Water/Eau), Silica, Aroma (Flavor), Cellulose Gum, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Saccharin, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Eugenol, Limonene, Benzyl Alcohol.

Over the last few years, I have been using Sensodyne and Pronamel toothpastes. I had some dental issues that made using Sensodyne easier on my teeth. But since I got a new crown, my sensitivity issues have disappeared. Nevertheless, I recently felt that my teeth weren’t feeling clean after using Sensodyne. In fact, they felt kind of furry in spite of the fact that I had just had them cleaned and I use an electric toothbrush.

Once I switched to Marvis, my teeth feel clean again. Marvis contains surfactant that cleans my teeth so they feel nice and smooth again but without making my teeth hurt or feel sensitive in any way.

The minty flavors of Marvis are not only yummy, but they provide long lasting breath freshening. My entire mouth feels clean for quite a while after using it.

I have to mention the distinctive Marvis packaging. The European old school packaging is just a delight. The plastic tube is silver to look like the old fashioned aluminum tubes of yesteryear. The box and tube label have a charming drawing of a man who I assume is the found of Marvis, Ludovico Martelli from Florence Italy. The toothpaste is still made in Italy today. Even the cap is fancy!

Marvis Toothpaste is sold by a variety of retailers including C.O. Bigelow, Sephora, Dermstore.com, Eataly, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Amazon, among others and even on Walmart.com where it is shipped from independent retailers. Dermstore.com has a 20% off sale right now. Many of the retailers I mentioned have free shipping if you order online. The toothpaste comes in two sizes:

  • full size: 3.8 oz./75 ml
  • travel size: 1.3 oz./25 ml

There are also several collections that you can buy including the Wonders of the World, Three Flavor Gift Toothpaste and Seven Days of Flavor with all 7 of the regular mint flavors. The prices range widely depending on where you purchase them, but they are quite affordable. The full size tube seems to range from $10.50-15.00, while the travel size is around $6. The collections range from $15-$44 depending on the size. I think the collections would make a lovely hostess gift. Also remember these at holiday time – they’ll make great stocking stuffers!

I don’t need to win this as I am particularly wedded to my eucalyptus-ish variety of Aquafresh, but I reeeeeeallly want to know what the “aquatic” part of aquatic mint is. My mind goes immediately to bad aquatic colognes, and since no one sane or with any amount of business sense would put that into toothpaste…I must now know. LOL
The licorice one is also intriguing, so if I were to buy a tube I think that would be my pick!

    1. This is what the CO Bigelow site says about Aquatic: “A rich creamy toothpaste with a delicate touch of cold mint, Marvis Aquatic Mint tingles in your mouth and removes plaque for a sparkling, white smile.” Cold mint, eh? Licorice toothpastes are among my faves, but I’m curious to see what it will taste like mixed with mint! I’ll let you know

  2. Jackie says:

    1. Sandy, it’s sold at C.O. Bigelow – we have one at our mall, and Target is mentioned too. But you can get free shipping from many of the places where it’s sold: Dermstore.com where it’s also 20% off now, Amazon if you have Prime, Nordstrom etc. I don’t know if you like peppermint, but if you do, I hope you entered the giveaway!! There aren’t a lot of entrants 🙂
