Matrix Total Results Keep Me Vivid Shampoo for “High Maintenance Shades”

Last summer, my deep red hair would look bright orange by the end of each month. Most likely, the culprit was the sun. Most of the protectants that are supposed to protect hair from UV rays are oils, and because I wash my hair every 4 days in the summer, I can’t stand the thought of spraying oil on my hair every time I go outdoors.

In September, my colorist at Sassoon used a Malibu treatment to remove some of the color buildup that sinks into the shaft of my hair overtime. After it was shampooed out and before new color was applied to my “fresher” hair, I noticed the color was more coppery, more strawberry blonde. I have been asking my colorist to consider making my hair strawberry blonde, and she always talked me out of it. I don’t know why, but she doesn’t like that shade. This time, I told her I wanted to enhance the color that it had become with the Malibu treatment rather than going back to deep red. She agreed, and my hair has been a brighter copper shade since then (still not strawberry blonde, but whatever).

Around that time, when I was perusing the aisles at Ultra, I found Matrix Total Results Keep Me Vivid Shampoo. It was created for “high-maintenance colors”. Though I assumed that meant shades like pink, blue, purple, or green, I decided that my easy-fading red is also a high-maintenance color. The packaging said keeps hair “vibrant for 65 days”. Since I get my hair recolored every 30 or so days, so sounds promising. Plus it’s infused with pearl, for shine I thought. I bought the shampoo.

I’ve been using it for about 4 months though I occasionally will use one of my other shampoos for a change. The shampoo makes a good amount of suds (I like suds), it has a pleasant sweet scent that is not overwhelming, and it’s easy to rinse out. It leaves my hair with a slight squeak which I also like.

I follow it up with one of my favorite treatment/conditioners: JOICO K-PAK Color Therapy Luster Lock Conditioning Treatment or Sebastian Penetraitt Strengthening and Repair Conditioner.

After about 4 months of use, my copper color has faded less than before. This is my hair color almost 3 weeks after it was colored.

I imagine that some of that may be due to the fact that the sun isn’t as strong and I’m not outside as much. However, I feel like I can attribute at least some of my brighter, coppery color to Matrix Keep Me Vivid Shampoo.

So if you have a bright, fashion color that is difficult to maintain, I suggest you give Matrix Keep Me Vivid Shampoo a try. Or if you have already tried it, please weigh in and let me know what you think about it!

My must have Matrix product to maintain my hair color (medium golden brown) is Total Results Keep Me Vivid Color Lamination. I use Pantene Classic Clean Shampoo, no conditioner. Then I spray on Total Results comb thru…… finish my shower then rinse. My hair is so nice. I have natural curly hair. I have tried so many shampoos and my go to is Pantene. So inexpensive. Cleans, doesn’t strip my color, no build up on my scalp. ❤️🙋🏻‍♀️🍷

    1. Thank you for letting me know, DiEtta, that you use Matrix Keep Me Vivid Color Lamination. Is it a heat protectant? Or a UV protectant? Is it a lightweight spray? I am thinking that I should check it out once I use up my EVA NYC heat protectant spray if the Matrix Color Lamination would help keep my color! I used to use Pantene all the time, for at least a decade. But when the brand was sold to Procter & Gamble years ago, the formula changed and my hair didn’t love it as much. But that was ages ago, I should try it again since it probably has changed a lot since then.

Allison I’m not sure about it being a heat protectant or UV protectant. It is a lightweight spray put on hair after washing wait a few minutes then rinse it out. I blow dry my hair. You could go to the Matix website or call to find out the answers to your questions. ❤️🙋🏻‍♀️🍷

    1. Thanks, DiEtta. I went to the website to take a look, and I read through about 50 or so of the reviews. Next time Ulta has their 50% off haircare sale I will buy it. It sounds like it could be an additional help in preserving my color.
