I’ve been a fan of Melt Cosmetics for several years. It’s makeup that I buy. The eye makeup is what I seem to use most. I adore the shadow stack I bought a couple of years ago, and I have Smoke Sessions, one of the terrific palettes.
Melt Gel Liner
For quite a while, I have had my eye on Melt’s Gel Liner. It’s a cream eyeliner that can also be used as a cream shadow. All the reviews I’ve read have been raves. So why did I wait so long? I guess it’s because for the past 2.5 years, I seldom wore makeup, lol. Also, it bugged me that Melt charged $10 for shipping. It seemed stupid to me to buy a $19 liner and pay $10 for shipping. But in the meantime, 125 Years, the limited edition medium matte gray shade I really wanted to buy is now long gone. 😥
Also in the meantime, Melt has raised the price on the gel liner fro $19 to $22. I think $3 is kind of a big jump all of a sudden. Yeah, yeah, supply chain ingredient issues, blah blah blah. However, when I saw they had free shipping a couple of weeks ago, I decided to finally buy one.
Which shade to choose? I considered:
- OK Boomer: bright, cool-toned, silver metallic
- Estrella: warm-toned gold metallic
- Slate: cool-toned, dark blue/navy matte
- Steel: cool-toned, medium-dark blue with flecks of lighter blue and minty green sparkle
- Fortune: deep emerald green matte
After going back and forth for about an hour, I chose Estrella, the gold metallic. It arrived a few days later. And btw, it’s as good as “they” say. It has a whipped mousse consistency. It’s a cinch to apply using a slant tip brush.
You have a little while if you need to make a change before it sets. It stays put for hours till I remove it with micellar water.
I’ve worn it on my upper lash line on top of MAC Tailor Gray Paint Pot, taupe cream shadow, to brighten up the neutral look.
I also tried it on top of the same taupe shadow above Urban Decay Mushroom pencil liner. I think it was more successful without the second liner which placed it too high up my lid.
Melt 9th Birthday 30% Off Sitewide Sale Now
Today, I got an email alerting me to a 30% off birthday sale at Melt. The email didn’t say how long the sale will last.
Because I love Estrella but don’t feel like I can wear gold metallic eyeliner everyday, I thought I would take this opportunity to buy another gel liner. When I went to the Melt website, I saw that Estrella is now priced at $8!!! That’s almost 2/3 off! If you are a fan of gold, at $8 just buy it. Another limited edition shade, Colibri, emerald metallic, is also $8 now. I’m wondering if I would wear that one enough to buy it even at $8?
The rest of the current shades are now $15 each. I keep going back and forth which to buy. I want something I can wear frequently. Black is too harsh for me now (though their deep black Onyx sure does make a beautiful wing!). They have a beautiful brown, Spliff, but I don’t really wear brown. So the choice is between Slate (navy) or Fortune (deep green). I’ll probably choose the navy that should make my blue/gray eyes look grayer, and will coordinate with the grey, taupe, and silver shadows I like to wear. Hmmm, maybe I’ll pass on the emerald Colibri, even though it’s stunning and a bargain, and get the silver OK Boomer. That’s it.
There are lots of other beautiful shades in the gel liner collection including rose golds, oranges, burnt red-brown, etc.

Melt’s greens are gorgeous! But imagine my surprise when I looked at the Melt website today and saw that the 30% off sale was yesterday only. But the stunning emerald green gel liner, Colibri, and the gold Estrella are still $8 each, an amazing deal

OMG, the sale must have just been yesterday. I am so sorry. They didn’t say how long it was on for, but I thought it would be for more than one day. I wouldn’t have promoted the sale if I knew it was just yesterday. Colibri and Estrella, the two gel liners for $8, are the only ones still on sale. I am glad I ordered last night, but I am disappointed for everyone else. I think I will email them about it.
