Michael Kors Sexy Amber EDP

Four times a year, I select a fragrance sample in a 30 day spray bottle from Scentbird, the fragrance subscription service. If you follow Never Say Die Beauty, you may have read that my favorite fragrances are oriental scents, usually with amber as a key note. When it was time to add to my scent queue at Scentbird, I chose Michael Kors Sexy Amber eau de parfum. I don’t usually choose designer fragrances, but this one sounded promising. I had to pay an extra $5 for this 30 day sample because Scentbird considers it “super-luxe”. It isn’t. It must be the agreement that Scentbird has with Michael Kors.

Sexy Amber is an amber floral fragrance for women created in 2013. The nose was Harry Fremont, a name that I’m not familiar with though he’s probably well-known. Fremont selected the notes amber, white flowers and sandalwood for the fragrance.

The main accords of Sexy Amber are:

  • amber
  • woody
  • white floral
  • powdery
  • animalic
  • warm spicy

With the exception of white floral, the other accords are ones that I typically like. The fragrance aficionados website, Fragrantica, listed the top three notes as amber, sandalwood and white floral, in that order. However, for me, the white floral is the note that I smell most strongly, followed by amber. I don’t really smell sandalwood at all.

Sadly, Michael Kors Sexy Amber is not my kind of amber fragrance because the white flowers are too strong and too sharp for me. Sexy Amber smells like a “traditional perfume” – I know that’s a strange way to describe it, but I guess to me, it smells perfumey. I usually wear gender-neutral, deep fragrances, so I think Sexy Amber may be just too feminine and too bright for me.

Though Michael Kors Sexy Amber doesn’t really suit me, it is still a well put-together, feminine perfume. I would describe the scent as sophisticated and sexy. I think it would appeal to women who prefer floral fragrances but not sweet florals, instead sophisticated, classic florals.

Michael Kors Sexy Amber is widely available on the Michael Kors website, Michael Kors stores, at Macy’s, Ulta, JC Penney, and at discount sites such as FragranceNet, Fragrance Market, Walmart.com, Walgreens.com, and Amazon. It comes in a variety of sizes from rollerballs and 30, 50 and 100 ml bottles.

  1. It’s too bad that the white floral is so assertive, this definitely doesn’t sound like the type of amber aroma that resonates with you!

    1. Yes, you nailed it! xo

  2. Hi, Allison – I’m with you. Rather than florals, I prefer natural, woodsy, musky, even Oriental and spicy scents. Because of sensitivities, I mostly use essential oil blends. A little floral is nice but not right up front. On the other hand, I suppose most women prefer the florals. I like that you let your readers know exactly what products are like so that they can choose what resonates with them. Thanks! – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

    1. Choosing a fragrance is such a personal and hit or miss kind of thing. For the past few years, fruity fragrances have been very popular especially with younger women. A looooong time ago on my first trip to Paris, I wanted to buy the perfume, Je Reviens. The saleswoman in the store wouldn’t sell it to me. She told me it was for grandmothers. Instead, she made me buy Caron’s Fleur de Rocaille, a very light floral. It was a pretty scent, but not my style. Funny memory, though.

  3. Because of you I’m using the Buy Nothing page on FB for my city. This is the type of item that someone would love. I’m sorry it’s a dud but passing it on would be a winning way to use it.

    1. Marcia, Buy Nothing is an excellent suggestion for Sexy Amber. I will probably ask my friend Miriam if she would like it, but if it doesn’t suit her either, Buy Nothing it will be – I know it will find a home there!

My go to perfume for about 20 years is the Egyptian Goddess perfume oil from Auric Blends, from what you describe it might be your style. The description from AB is “Seductive and soft, this fragrance blends a warm musk with notes of powder and delicate florals.” The florals are so delicate I can barely smell them, it’s just a deep, warm and feminine/sexy kind of scent.

    1. Alona, thank you! I am going to search for Egyptian Goddess from Auric Blends. It sounds lovely! I agree with your assessment, so if the florals are delicate, it may work for me. I like perfume oils because they are longer lasting and have greater sillage. Thanks again for taking the time to suggest your fragrance to me xo

I have been using Sexy Amber by Michael Kors for the last 5 years and have had more compliments from coworkers, friends and mostly by strangers than I received in my 40 years, and I wear perfume every day!!! Try wearing it for a few days and see just how many compliments you get.

    1. That’s wonderful, Cindy! It’s become your signature scent! It’s amazing how fragrance smells so different on each of us. As a matter of fact, I tried Sexy Amber two or three years ago, and sadly, it didn’t suit me so I gave it away to someone who would love it.
