Milani Limited Edition

Mascara

I was thrilled to get these blue beauties.

Milani Limited Edition Bella Blue Collection

I have always been a big – no, huge – fan of colored mascaras. I never outgrow them. Although they say wear blue with brown eyes, I say the heck with that. I love blue mascara and blue eyeliner with my blue-grey eyes.

The Bella Blue is a deep blue (on top in the photo above) that’s great for any occasion. I wore it to a casual cocktail party at the Beach Club last Friday night. It’s a shade that will work with any eye color. The Mediterranean Blue and Azure (middle and lower, respectively) both make bold aqua/teal statements. When I applied all three shades, it was like getting eyeliner along the lower lash line because the wand deposited color while applying color to my lower lashes. I love the look.

The flexible wand has small plastic teeth that I like. To me, the wand is similar to the Too Faced Lash Gasm wand that I love and misplaced somewhere in one of my closets.

Milani Bella Blue Collection

The formula is buildable, and it took me about 3 coats to get as much volume and color as I wanted…so just one more coat than usual. And it required a little bit more work than usual to take off. I don’t know whether it’s waterproof or not. I use Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover, and I think I will use an oil to remove these mascaras in the future.

I just have to say a word about the packaging of the mascara. It comes in the same square heavy plastic tube with the gold top as the Brilliant Lip Gloss, and those blue shades coming through the clear packaging is so eye-catching and gorgeous. They are literally irresistible.

Nail Lacquer

I just applied the Bella Blue Nail Lacquer, and the blackened blue prismatic shade is unlike any other that I own. In addition to deep blue, it has green and red swirling around in there. But it’s rich and actually quite conservative looking. I love it!

Milani Limited Edition

I applied two coats but honestly, one might have done the trick. And I am amazed at how quickly each coat dries, wow. So happy to have this shade in my stash.

Lip Color

The blue lipstick that they call Lip Art was, for me, just for fun, something to try. For us well over 40 gals, blue lipstick on its own doesn’t work, although this is a shimmery rather sheer medium blue shade. It took about three swipes to get this much color.

I will mix it with pink and make a nice purple going forward. Here it is on its own, but there were the remnants of rose lipstick on underneath. In the indoor light, it looks not bad 😉

Milani Bella Blue Lipstick

The lipstick packaging is different from any other Milani lip product. It’s in a heavy, clear plastic tube, so you can’t miss the blue bullet within.

So act fast to score some of these blue beauties before they’re gone! (And don’t forget the 30% off sale online till 6/30!) The blue lippie is fun to play around with and mix with other shades. While all of the products are perfect for summer, I know that the Bella Blue mascara and the nail lacquer will have a permanent place in my makeup collection.

Now if they would just make some purple mascara. That is my weakness as far as colored mascaras go.
    Great reviews!!

    1. Yes, Laura, I hope they do purple mascara at some point, too! I love it too 🙂

Blue mascara and nail polish? Yes! Blue lipstick? No! That’s usually a sign that a person isn’t breathing!

    1. Lisa, I was dying to try the blue lipstick, but on its own, it wasn’t a good look for me 😉 But I loooooove the mascaras and the polish is going to be a year round staple.

  3. I used to wear blue mascara a lot. I should check this out!

  5. I like the color of the blue mascaras but sadly I’m not sure I’ll like the wand!

    1. Everyone has her own preferences, Mai! I actually prefer the smaller brush head with the teeth. I find it easier to work with.

  6. I wasn’t a huge fan of the mascara wands but I like how they show up.

    1. Not everyone likes the small brush head, but always the contrarion, I do. It’s actually good for depositing color along the lower lashline.

  7. This is very blue collection! Loving the mascara, but blue lipstick is something that I would skip.

  15. I used to have some bold blue mascara in the 80’s.. what a cool retro-made-new look. I thought about picking some up, but I just got the polish and the lip color. The lippie is a little hard for me to wear on its own, too, but I have a dark blue lippie that I really like, and I may try it with that. Or, like you, try it layered with purple or pink. Great tip!

    1. I wouldn’t see you usually gravitating to blue with your warm skin tone, but these blues — especially Medit Blue & Azure — are so aqua/teal and fun I think they would look especially great on you.

  18. The lipstick isn’t my style, but I would totally rock the darker mascara and the nail polish.

  19. I would probably also mix the blue with other shades to wear out of the house. I am just not a funky enough person to pull that off!

    1. Same with me, Justina. I didn’t leave the house with blue lips

  20. rach says:

These look so pretty on you! Cobalt blue mascara is totally my new everyday colour. My tube isn’t one of these (have yet to ascertain if Milani’s formula is safe for my picky eyes) but still blue. I figured I might as well use it up (and feel ever so slightly rebellious in wearing coloured mascara every single day, lol) rather than having to bin a half-used tube because it went “off”.

    1. That’s great, Rach! Are you wearing DiorShow blue mascara? I used to be a big fan (and I still would be if it weren’t so pricey). I have sensitive eyes too, and don’t have any problems wearing Milani, but it is a little more difficult to remover than DiorShow or other mascaras so that could cause a problem 🙂

  21. That blue goes so well with your eyes 😉

  22. rach says:

It’s the new Dior It-Lash, actually. And now I’m totally coveting the purple one! I think they said the colours were LE but I’m gonna hold off buying it for a while longer I think. Hopefully it’ll still be there when I’ve used most of the blue, but if not then it just wasn’t meant to be. I might give one of the Milani formulas a go as I still need a solid budget-friendly choice, but I’ll just make sure to get it from a place that won’t hassle me about a return in case it too causes some sort of reaction. Stupid eyes! 😛

    1. I’m going to have to check out the purple from Dior It-Lash. i loooooove purple mascara! The Milani Bella Blue Collection is a limited edition too, and I think it is only sold at Walgreens, Fred Meyer and on the Milani website. I think Walgreens takes returns with no questions asked. If you do take the plunge with a Bella Blue collection mascara, make sure you have something strong but gentle (haha) to take it off!

  23. I’ve never tried blue mascara before, I should check it out! I like the nail polish color.

  24. Leah says:

I love those mascara’s but the blue lipstick…not sure where I’d wear it at. The nail polish is pretty and I’d wear it. Thanks for posting all the pics.

    1. Me, too, Leah. I didn’t leave the house in the blue lipstick, lol! But the mascaras and polish are beautiful!

  25. I love mixing a little blue into my red lipsticks! I need to get this one.
