Milani Brilliant Shine Lipgloss

I’ve been meaning to tell you about Milani’s new Brilliant Shine Lipgloss for Spring 2014 for some time now, but spring still isn’t here yet! It’s in the 40s today 🙁 I don’t want to wait any longer. So I’m going to tell you about these uplifting lipglosses anyway since it’s spring on the calendar, if not in reality here in New England.

Milani’s Brilliant Shine Lipgloss line is just like everything Milani: bold, colorful, luxurious, and affordable! The new lipgloss line consists of 14 shades, and I have had the opportunity to try out six of them. 🙂

I got a mix of lights and brights, regular and sparkly glosses (from left to right in the photo):

  • Luminous 03: a golden-flecked MLBB (my lips but better)
  • Nude Touch 11: a nude copper-flecked MLBB
  • Coral Crush 06: peachy coral
  • Pink Grapefruit 09: a gorgeous pink-coral (but I’m biased because I adore pink-coral lipsticks!)
  • Rose Blush 08: bright pink rose with subtle gold shimmer
  • Red My Lips 12: my personal favorite, bright red with orange undertones

The six shades that I tried are either sheer or translucent. From those I received, Red My Lips is, by far, the most pigmented and is somewhat buildable. I would say that it provides medium coverage, while the others are much sheerer. But from my experience, these are beautiful lipglosses to wear when you want to enhance the look of your own lips, when you want to add gloss to your lipstick, or when you don’t want opaque color. At home, I wear them on their own for a hint of color and to moisturize my lips. When I’m going out, I wear them over my lipstick especially ones that are drying or that could use a little shine.

Milani Brilliant Shine Lipgloss, Red My Lips

What I love about Milani Brilliant Shine Lipgloss in addition to the variety of shades (there are gorgeous dark cherries, raspberries and purples too that I haven’t tried yet!), is the moisturizing feel of these glosses. My moisture-starved lips are always in the mood for hydration like I get from these Milani glosses. 🙂

More good news is that Milani Brilliant Shine Lipgloss is not gooey and super-sticky. A few minutes after applying, the glossy gooeyness sort of dries down, and it stays put on my lips. It doesn’t feel as tacky as many other glosses that I’ve tried, though on a seriously windy day, there could be a little hair stuck to my lips, lol.

Some of the glosses, probably all, have a faint vanilla scent (frankly, for some of them I don’t smell anything) that disappears almost immediately.

Milani Brilliant Shine Lipgloss comes in an elegant square gold-topped tube.  It has a sponge-tip flexible applicator to make application a snap.

Each tube contains 0.21 fl. oz. and is priced around $5.99. It’s parabens-free and cruelty-free. The lipglosses are made in the U.S. Milani Brilliant Shine Lipgloss is sold at Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Kmart, on milanicosmetics.com and in other stores throughout the U.S.

Do you wear lipgloss? If so, how do you wear it: on its own or over lipstick? What’s your favorite gloss shade?

    1. That’s so great that they stay on so long for you, Amber! Which one is your favorite so far? Mine is Red My Lips <3 I love how they make my lips feel so hydrated 🙂

  2. Laura says:

My favorite way to wear lip gloss is under lipstick. The brand I like best is Laura Mercier. The drug store brand I buy most is Revlon. I don’t have a favorite shade but I do tend to wear nudes and shimmers a lot. I need another lip gloss like I need another hole in my head but does that stop me from buying them???NO!!! 🙂

    1. Laura, you are too funny! 😀 I haven’t tried the Laura Mercier gloss or the Revlon either, but I’m sure I will someday. I am typically not a gloss wearer though Milani Power Lip, a cross between liquid lipstick and a gloss, is my favorite lippie since they came out a few months ago. I’m really into these glosses, however. They are soooo hydrating and comfortable to wear 🙂

  3. I love the RED one! It looks good on you!

    1. Thanks, Eugenia!

  4. Red My Lips and coral crush are beautiful.

  6. I tend to skip lipgloss these days and prefer lipsticks. I used to be all about the gloss.

    1. Me, too, generally and I love Milani’s Colour Statement Lipsticks. We all go through phases, don’t you think?!

  7. Very nice colors .. I’m partial to the “Rose blush” color. I didn’t know that these glosses are paraben free .. (an additive I’m trying to avoid).

    1. Yes, the Rose Blush is very pretty, and yes, Milani is parabens-free! I generally try to avoid parabens if I can (less is more), but the more I read about it, the more I’m beginning to believe that it is OK. Here’s something from Paula’s Choice, usually a trusted source for me: https://www.facebook.com/notes/paulas-choice/do-parabens-cause-cancer-the-truth-behind-the-rumors/10152165190744004 And I don’t have the link right now but another of the leading blogs on natural products also said no need to avoid. That said, if I have a choice, I skip it too, and I’m glad that Milani makes it easy since it’s not in there!

  8. Red My Lips is so stunning! I’m such a sucker for red.

    1. Leticia, I only tried one of the darker pigments, Red My Lips, and it was definitely more opaque and buildable. There are several other dark shades that I think would be worth a try. I agree that the lighter shades are very sheer, and I probably wouldn’t wear them on their own because I like a more pigmented look too. But the sheer ones feel very good over lipstick 😉

  11. Those glosses are very pretty. Maybe, just maybe the will turn up in my area. I do wear lip gloss, in fact more often than lipstick. I am all over the place, with colours. Yesterday, I as all about a nude peach. 😀

    1. Gee, I didn’t review Urban Decay Naked in this review, Nidia. But yes, many that I tried were quite sheer. I’d like to try more of the darker shades like dark cherry, black raspberry that might be more pigmented like the red.

  19. I have tp agree with your review. I think Red My Lips is my favorite too. What a pretty way to wear red without feeling too intimidated by the color.

    1. Except for the Red My Lips that does have quite a bit of pigment and is somewhat buildable, the others are quite sheer. I would love to try more of the darker shades like dark cherry, purples, raspberries and see if they are more opaque.

  23. These are very sheer but the red is my favorite!

  28. I love lip glosses. I don´t own any of these, yet, but some of them are in my wishlist 🙂

    1. There are so many shades to choose from, Leelo. I just got to try out 6 of them. And it does seem that you can choose from sheer or more opaque, glossy or glossy with sparkles etc, so it’ll be fun to find what suits you.

  29. The Red My Lips is my favorite but the raspberries color sounds intriguing. I would give them a try mainly because they are paraben free, something I pay close attention to now.

    1. I think it’s great too, Darlene, that Milani is parabens-free and cruelty-free. I also want to check out more of the darker shades. Usually CVS and Walgreens have BOGO 1/2off every couple of weeks so I’m keeping my eyes open for the sales.
