Milani Limited Edition Matte Baked Bronzers

Even though I almost put the heat back on a couple of days ago, summer is on its way. I love the look of a tan, but I’ve got so much sun damage from years of too much sun exposure, that I pile on the SPF, wear a hat and sit under an umbrella at the beach. I still like my face to have that sun-kissed summer look. But this year I will get that look from Milani rather than from the sun.

Milani has just introduced two new MATTE limited edition bronzers for Summer 2014 to their lineup of baked bronzers.

Although “baked” products have been around for a while, I was not quite sure what that actually meant. Here’s what Milani says about the baked bronzers:

  • A bronzing powder that features a mélange infusion of colors baked on Italian terracota tiles. Easy to use, sensorial in texture, the nuances of color become extraordinarily luminous, enhancing the purity of the skin. This hi-tech, streak free bronzer, gives a perfect radiant look.

The new bronzers are joining three shimmer bronzer shades. All five are available on milanicosmetics.com right now, and in June the limited edition matte bronzers will be available at Walgreens! The price is $8.99. Till May 30, Milani is having a 30% off Memorial Day Sale on products purchased through milanicosmetics.com with the code: HOTDAYS

I got the chance to take the two new matte bronzers, Sunset and Sienna, for a spin.

Milani LE Matte Bronzers

I’m a real fan of mattes, so I was excited to try them. The bronzers are finely-milled, but they also have a creamy feel to them. Touching them gives the sensation of a soft suede fabric.

Each compact comes with a small mirror and a brush that you can certainly use if you’re on the go and don’t have your regular brushes with you.

Here are swatches applied over primer because my skin is so dry they weren’t showing up on my bare skin.

Milani LE Matte Bronzers

I applied them using the backward 3 technique. Not surprisingly, the lighter shade, Sunset 08, was absolutely perfect for my light skin. It was long-lasting, and it lasted for more than 6 hours on my skin.

I decided to play around with the darker shade, Sienna 07, and I tried using it to contour. I added some Sienna to my jaw line and along either side of my nose. I’m still a contour newbie, and as you can see, I think I needed to blend blend blend Sienna more so it didn’t stand out so much, especially on either side of my nose. But I’ll use a lighter hand next time, and keep at it!

So check out the new matte bronzers on milanicosmetics.com, and while you’re at it, take a look at the rest of the incredible Milani product line during the Memorial Day Sale!

I’m such a bronze-holic and I LOVE Milani’s baked blushes, are these bronzers totally necessary? I saw then at only one of my Walgreens and they were on sale for $7.79, but I don’t like bronzers on the orange side so if you could help me decide it would be great, Thanks. I Love your Milani review posts because they’re so insightful!

    1. Whether they are totally necessary for you, Maria, is your call, lol 😉 Frankly, I usually avoid bronzers because I always thought they looked fake, like a fake tan. But these do not look fake at all. I also LOVE the fact that they are MATTE! The lighter shade, Sunset, is not at all orange. It is a perfect bronzer for me because it gives me just a little bit of color. Sienna is definitely darker. On my cool toned, light skin, Sienna is not orange, it’s a milk chocolate brown. The way it looks on my face in the photo — kinda brownish — is how it looks on my skin. In the swatch taken outside in the bright sunshine, Sienna does look the tiniest bit orange but to me it really is more milk chocolatey. Does Walgreens have the same ‘no questions asked return policy’ that CVS does? If so, I’d buy one, Maria, and if it doesn’t suit you, return it. I know this will go fast. I don’t know your skin shade, but Sunset — the lighter shade — is like coffee with extra cream, a light no orange shade! I hope this helps. Let me know what you decide to do!

Wow! It looks great on you!!! Helpful info! I look forward to seeing you under your umbrella at the beach. You can teach me about contouring 🙂

    1. LOL, Lois! I hope to see you at the beach soon, if it ever warms up! I am trying to learn contouring because it really seems to make a difference, especially since I have a square face! The darker shade, Sienna, because it’s matte, should work as a contour. I just need more practice applying and blending 😉

  3. I really want these! Perfect for Summer!

    1. They are perfect for summer, Eugenia, though I think I will be using them for contouring year round 😉

  4. Lois L says:

Your face looked so different (great) in the pic. I love the idea 🙂

  5. Lois L says:

I noticed it right away. You face looked oval (not square) in that pic!

    1. Haha, that’s the selfie thing. My square face always looks longer and like I have a long chin in the pix I take. But thank you anyway <3

  6. Nathalie says:

Bonjour Allison, I love the Sunset bronzer on you, it just gives you a beautiful, luminous sun-kissed glow. Another nice matte bronzer is the Sonia Kasiuk, it is lovely and really works well as a contour. Aurevoir, Nathalie xoxo

    1. Mercia beaucoup, Nathalie! So happy to hear from you again 🙂 Hope all is well. Sunset is the right shade for me, whereas Sienna is a bit dark for my light skin. Thank you for the recommendation about the matte Sonia Kashuk bronzer. I am overdue for a visit to Target so I’ll take a look. xoxo

  7. The lighter one would suit me the best. However I have so many bronzers I DON’T use I worry that buying another would just add to the pile. LOL I think they look super on you!

  10. OOo! Milani makes matte bronzers???? Seriously? I need to get my arse down to my local CVS and see if they are in stock. STAT. Probably not… My CVS never gets the really good LE Milani. Like the rose blushes… *sob* Small towns suck!!! Okay, done ranting.

    1. Erika, these LE bronzers will NOT be at CVS. They are exclusive to Walgreens! and on the Milani website

  11. Maria J. says:

I work at a Walgreens in the Cosmetic department, but they don’t know have these bronzers at my location. The one that is like 5 minutes away from the one I work at is the one that has them, if they have a BOGO 50% off I’ll get them and yes they do have a NO QUESTIONS asked policy as long as you have a receipt.

    1. That’s awesome, Maria! You’re right there for all the sales, lol. They are supposed to be in Walgreen’s in June so the one you mentioned must be early birds. Hope they do have the BOGO and you can pick one up…and return it if it doesn’t suit you!

      1. Maria J. says:

I am kind of fortunate, but CVS is having a sale this weekend on Milani, but unfortunately the LE collection won’t be sold there

        1. Correct, Maria! It’s only at Walgreen’s and on Milani’s website. I wore the darker shade, Sienna, yesterday by mistake. But I blended it really well, and it looked fine…much better than the pic in my blogpost. And it’s not orange on me, definitely milk chocolate.

  12. I am terrified to try bronzers! I like when my bronzers are mixed with blush and highlighter pigments, they are less scary. But you give me inspiration to try! Plus, the sale!!!!!

  25. Sienna looks like a perfect matte bronzer. I love mattes too. I avoid shimmers as much as possible especially around my cheeks.

    1. They both are, depending on your skin tone. Sunset, the lighter one, really works well on my light skin. By mistake, I used Sienna again today, and though it is a bit dark for me, with blending, it look quite good too. I agree – I prefer the mattes as well.

  26. Laura says:

Milani blushes, bronzers and eye shadows remind me of Laura Geller products. A decade ago I use to buy a lot of her cosmetics. Now Milani has replaced them. I really like the Sunset. I tried a couple times today to visit the Milani website and never could connect. I finally gave up. I guess I will wait on the bronzers to show up at the drugstores. Allison you are so lucky to have such a creamy complexion.

    1. Laura, I just got on the Milani website with no problem using Safari browser but it was just after midnight. Try early or late if you can. Thank you so much! I think it’s the foundation mostly since my sundamage doesn’t show! I have never used Laura Geller products tho I often look at them in Ulta. Because Milani is such great quality at affordable prices, I find it difficult to pass up! Today, I put on Sienna, the darker shade, by mistake but I blended it really well this time, put on blush and I thought it looked really good too, like I really had been out in the sun. 🙂

  27. I have been seeing these advertised everywhere. They look beautiful!
