Mineral Fusion All-In-One Illuminating Mineral Beauty Balm

It’s been a while since I’ve worn a BB cream. Lately, I’ve been mostly wearing stick foundation or CC cream as a fast foundation. But this BB cream is from Mineral Fusion, a natural mineral brand that I like a lot, so I was happy to try it.

Illuminating Mineral Beauty Balm is a multi-tasker: makeup, moisturizer, age-defying treatment, and a light physical sunscreen (broad spectrum SPF 9) all in one. It’s creamy, hydrating with aloe and botanicals. It comes in a handy tube. It’s hypoallergenic and fragrance-free. It applies easily. I often just apply it with my fingers or a blending sponge.

Mineral Fusion calls it “ultra sheer for all skin types”. I have light skin, and I think it’s a bit yellow for my cool-toned pink skin. But it gives me a healthy, slight tan glow. I think it would be perfect for anyone with light-medium tone skin.

I actually wouldn’t call it “ultra sheer”, like it says on the tube. In fact, it does give me some coverage, and it sort of covers or at least lightens my dark spots. My skin looks more even. It gives my skin a luminous, dewy finish.

IMHO, the sunscreen of SPF 9 isn’t enough to provide good outdoor protection. I would need to wear an additional sunscreen with it if I were going to be outside on a sunny day. So I’ve decided that Mineral Fusion Illuminating Mineral Beauty Balm SPF 9 is perfect for days when I’m staying home, hanging out with friends indoors, or running errands in winter when it’s not very sunny. It’s quick and gives me just enough coverage for everyday.

Mineral Fusion Illuminating Mineral Beauty Balm won a Delicious Living Beauty & Body Award in 2016. The tube contains 2.0 fl. oz./60 ml and is priced at $27.99. Gluten Free, 100% Vegan, Cruelty Free, Paragon Free, Artificial Color Free, Fragrance Free, Talc Free, Hypo-allergenic, Phthalate Free. Sold on the Mineral Fusion website and at Whole Foods.

    1. I read a lot of the reviews which were incredibly positive, and I was surprised how few women mentioned the low SPF! I wish it were higher for sure.

  3. Such a missed opportunity giving it only an SPF 9!

    1. Yes, I agree. They use only titanium dioxide. Do you think it might have to do with trying to keep the formula from being too thick? Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about sunscreen chemistry.

  4. This sounds great for a no-makeup look. My skin is too awful for BB and CC creams right now, but once it is “done”, I’m looking forward to ditching the war paint in favour of lighter products.

  5. Too bad the SPF isn’t greater, I don’t use anything less than 30.

    1. Yeah, it must have had something to do with the formula because it uses only titanium dioxide. Maybe a higher sunscreen would’ve thickened the formula? With a 9, I wear it in the house or when I’m not outside only briefly.

  6. I haven’t used Mineral Fusion in so long. It’s a great brand but like others said this would be even better with a higher SPF.

    1. Agreed. SPF 9 doesn’t make any sense to me. I’m speculating that increasing the SPF wouldn’t have thickened the formula since it uses titanium dioxide???

  7. Mineral Fusion has made some great sunscreens, like their SPF 40

    1. I think it would, too, Erika, since you’re a little fairer than I am. I know this will be a good shade for me in the summer but the low SPF won’t work. But wearing it this time of year in the house or out doing errands is fine.

  9. I love that this is an all in one. I don’t use tinted moisturizers often, but when I do I love finding one that will feel nice on the skin and this sounds really good. Great for a summer time BB for sure.

    1. Actually I think you’d like this one because it’s lightweight and is like a tinted moisturizer with benefits

  10. My skin has been pretty dry lately, so I’ve been using a lot of BBs. I haven’t tired this brand, but this sounds like a great option.

    1. I can’t remember if I’ve tried Mineral Fusion eyeshadows either! I’ll bet they’re good.

  12. That formula is too sheer…if you did say yourself that its on your skin then I believe but its so hard to tell in the photos! You don’t want BB to stick out but too sheer is just not well either.

    1. I think that was Mineral Fusion’s plan with this one, Ursula, because it says “ultra sheer” right on the package and tube. Surprisingly, it does give me some coverage altho it looks a little yellow on me

  13. I’m more of a liquid foundation kinda person.

    1. This one wouldn’t be for you then because it’s too sheer. However, Mineral Fusion has a really nice liquid foundation made from natural and organic ingredients in quite a few shades. It’s worth a look next time you’re at Whole Foods 🙂
