Mirabella Beauty Borrowed from the Boys Brow Collection

OK, I admit it. I have shirked my responsibility to my brows. They are neglected. I tweeze them, but that’s about it most of the time. I bought a brow gel a while back and put it somewhere and can’t find it. Because my hair is color-treated, I get my brows dyed at the same time. However, the color doesn’t last more than a couple of weeks. On occasion, I’ll pick up one of my Milani lipliners that seems to be a perfect match for my hair, and I’ll use that on my brows, lol. Also, I have bangs so you can hardly see my brows. Excuses, excuses.

But I was beginning to feel a little left out. Everyone is doing her brows. Brows have been big for a couple of years now, and I’ve mostly sat out that trend. However, the trend toward big huge men’s brows is changing, thank goodness. “Brows are returning to sanity, and well-manicured, full but still natural-looking brows are back.” That’s what Amber Bowen, Creative Director of Mirabella Beauty, has to say. Yay, that’s a trend I can get behind.

Mirabella just sent me goodies from their new Borrowed from Boys Brow Collection. The look is borrowed from the boys but reinterpreted for us gals. I received three Brow Pencils and a tube of Brow Shaper.

Mirabella Brow Pencils

The Brow Pencils will be available in Light, Medium and Dark. As you can see, it has a teeny, adjustable (no sharpening necessary!) “microfine tip” that makes it easy to draw in the look of hairs where your brows may be sparse. And it comes with a handy dandy spoolie at the end to soften the color where necessary. The formula contains vitamins E and C to condition hair and skin, plus it’s waterproof and smudge-proof. I tried out Light, and it was very easy to apply and it stayed put. The Brow Pencils will be priced at $21 each ($27.30 CAN).

Mirabella The Brow Shaper

Mirabella The Brow Shaper

The Brow Shaper is used to provide a number of brow benefits: shape, definition, thickness, and universal color to fill in brows. The Brow Shaper is a liqui-gel with a mascara-like formula applied with a mascara-like wand.

Mirabella The Brower Shaper, wand

The formula contains panthenol and vitamin E for hair and skin conditioning. It also contains powder that when dry helps create natural looking brows. I found it easy to work with. It will be priced at $25 (32.50 CAN).

You can see the swatches of both products below. The Brow Shaper is at the bottom, and the Brow Pencil swatches go from dark to light from top to bottom.

The Mirabella Borrowed from the Boys Brow Collection will launch in September 2015. It is sold at professional salons and on mirabellabeauty.com

My Experiences with Mirabella Borrowed from the Boys Brow Collection

It’s tough being a redhead sometimes. Brow product shades are not always designed with us in mind. There is no auburn or red shade in this lovely collection. Nevertheless, I was dying to try out the new brow products from Mirabella because I love the quality of everything I’ve tried from the brand. So, I chose the Light Brow Pencil and I followed up with The Brow Shaper in the universal shades that’s not completely universal.

I found the pencil very easy to work with. I used it to fill in hairs especially at ends of my brows where the hair just disappeared some years ago. Then I applied The Brow Shaper on the brows to give them a thicker appearances and neaten them up. Also, easy to use.

Although I can’t say the color is a complete success with my red hair, I enjoyed using the Mirabella Brow Collection. Here’s me without (first photo) and with enhanced brows. What do you think?

I trimmed my bangs after I applied the brow products. I should have done it before so both pix would be the same. Oh well. You can still form an opinion. Brows or no brows??

I could not get behind the man brow either. My brows are sparse because of thyroid issues. I just started trying to make them visible a year ago. It is hard to find a brow product that I will actually keep using. I know my brows should be one of my first makeup applications but it is usually the last. If I am short on time I skip it all together.
P.S. Of course you look great…brows and all. 🙂

    1. Could you use either the medium or dark shade pencil, Laura? Please let me know. Yes, I do mine last if I do them at all too! (Good luck tomorrow. I’ll be thinking very positive thoughts for you and hope you’ll be on the mend quickly xoxo)

      1. Laura says:

Oh thank you! I would love to try the medium Allison. I really like that it has a spoolie on the opposite end. Thank you for the good luck wishes too! I am not looking forward to it but I am anxious about the chance to feel better afterwards.

        1. Great, Laura! I’ll send out the medium to you in a few days since you may not be there to fish it out of the mailbox, and I’m afraid makeup will melt in this heat! And I definitely am hoping very strongly that you’ll be feeling better after your surgery. All the best!

  2. I’m pretty lazy about my brows most of the time. Mine are actually quite dark, and I find that I can generally get away without using anything. When I want a more polished look I definitely can use a brow pencil or powder though. I do think that my brows definitely look better when I do. I also only tweeze strays periodically– when they really need it. These pencils look very promising, and your brows look absolutely beautiful!

    1. I agree, Helen, that brows do look better with a little attention. It’s great that you don’t have to do too much to your dark brows. When mine are freshly colored, they’re fine but the color fades fast and my brows disappear. I’ve gotta get with the program and do them more often. But I do need to find a shade that better suits me. I wish Mirabella had an auburn shade coz the pencils and the shaper are lovely 🙂

  3. I love your brows here! They look so full and shaped

  4. I really like the Mirabella brow gel wand. I’ve tried the Maybelline one with the little round ball and really what’s the point of that?

I also neglect filling in my brows and just swipe on brow gel. I can really tell the difference when my brows are filled in .. just adds more dimension to my face.

    1. I agree, I like a little ball on a mascara wand but for brows, why? I agree with you on the adding dimension. I have to keep searching for the auburn gel I bought some months ago. For me, the color issue is a problem, but my brows do look better with a little something on them

  5. I can definitely see a difference–your brows are much more defined. Before they kind of disappeared and now they frame your eyes beautifully!

    1. Thank you!

  6. I like that color on you! I am loving mine and will have the review up soon… I love finding new brow products it’s kinda my thing heheh

    1. Thank you, Heather. I’m not sure it actually is a good shade for this redhead, but I love the products. Mirabella is considering adding a red in the future, and I hope they do!

  7. I think this color suits you very well! I’ve been using the darker shade on myself, but I need to try that one, too, since we’re both redheads 🙂

    1. I don’t think any of the shades really work with my coloring and brighter shade of red. But the Mirabella Creative Director dropped me a note and said they are considering adding a shade for redheads. I’d be thrilled!

  8. The dark shade looks nice!

  10. Brows! 😀 They need to do auburns for you redhead beauties. 😀

    1. I agree, Erika. In fact, I got an email from the Creative Director at Mirabella saying that they are considering it. I hope they do it, coz I’d love these products in the right shade for me!

  11. Brows are such a struggle for me – I over tweezed mine when I was 11 and they never grew back (literally). My once thick, beautiful brows, are now thin, sparse and so wiry. Ugh. I rely on powders to fill them in, but I do love a good pencil. These products sound nice, and it looks great on you!

    1. I am so surprised to hear that, Julie, because your brows always look perfect, like you were born with them!

  12. It would be great if they had a pencil that is more red-toned for sure! The light brow pencil looks great on you, but yea, I would definitely say you need something a bit more auburn!

  13. I never used to have to do my brows but unfortunately I do now. It’s so hard to find the right product and being a bright redhead it has to be worse for you. My brows are very sparse now. I’m finding a powder or gel works best but looks crappy up close in pictures.

    1. Oh, I’m sorry to hear it, Marcia. I haven’t tried a powder yet – I haven’t seen a powder for redheads but it may be out there.

  15. You know what’s a universal eye brow color? Taupe! That’s what I’ve been using
Kath TheFabZilla recently posted…AMETHYST EYES Feat. Chanel, Nars, black|upMy Profile

    1. Taupe is the shade of the Brow Shaper, and it’s not quite universal on me 😉

  16. You made me realize there is a total lack of auburn brow shades. It’s not always easy finding black either (but luckily dark brown usually works!)
Bailey recently posted…Mary Kay City Modern Collection | Fall 2015My Profile

    1. Yes, there is a lack of red/auburn in many brow lines! But Mirabella is considering adding one. I didn’t think about black vs. dark brown. The dark brown in the Mirabella line is certainly darker than the medium but it isn’t quite black.

  17. I’ve only started worrying about my brows in the last year or so, too. Luckily, I have pretty full brows, but I do like how they look when they are shaped a little, and filled in. I do like the shape and definition you were able to achieve with the pencil, though, like you, I’m not sure about the color. It doesn’t look bad, though.

  21. Rachel R. says:

I think you look great with your brows done, but agree the color match isn’t the best. It’s not awful, either.

My brows are dark, thick and full. If I have a strong eye look going on, I’ll use a little brow powder or powder eyeshadow to fill them in a little. Otherwise, I just get them waxed, pluck strays in-between waxing, and brush them with a spoolie.

    1. Thank you, Rachel, and I agree with you about the color. Mirabella sent me an email saying they are considering adding a redhead shade, yay! I haven’t tried brow powder yet, but I’d like to. Basically, redhead brow shades that aren’t dark auburn which also isn’t a good match for me are hard to find so I use what I can find or the Milani lip pencil, lol. I need to make friends with the spoolie regardless.

  22. The color might be slightly off, but you brows look so well manicured in the after photo!

    1. I love reading about all the UK and European brands that you use, Laura! Thank for saying that about my reviews. I’m always afraid that they’re way too long. I am a market research consultant and focus group moderator, so the reports that I write for my clients are often long and very detailed. Oh well. Regarding my brows, I heard from the folks at Mirabella (a US brand that sold in the US and Canada, I think) that they are considering adding a redhead shade. I think they need it!!
