Molton Brown Limited Edition Muddled Plum Shower Gel

In January, I picked up a trio of limited edition Molton Brown shower gel scents in adorable holiday bauble packaging.

I reviewed the Festive Bauble Set in order to let my readers know about the after holiday sale and to give my initial impressions. Since then I thought I’d come back and give you an update.

Frankly, I ended up hating the adorable little round bauble packaging. It was almost impossible to get the shower gel out of the baubles. This is what one of the baubles looks like now that it’s empty.

I had to squeeze and crush the heck out of it to get the shower gel out. As cute as the holiday ornament round shape was, it was a bust when it came to actually using it. I hope Molton Brown skips the ornaments next year. I felt so strongly about it that I emailed them about it.

But as much as I hated the packaging, I loved one of the scents in particular, Muddled Plum, the deep purple one on the right in the box in the photo above. I had thought that Frankincense would be my fave, but it was too masculine for me. Muddled Plum is soft and warm and, I think, more feminine.

In fact, I loved the Muddled Plum Bath & Shower Gel so much that I tracked down a full-size bottle even though it’s a limited edition for the holidays. It was sold out at Molton Brown and Saks, but I found a bottle at Lord & Taylor, yippee!

The bottle has a fancy silver label unlike the bottles in the regular product line, and it arrived with a purple bow at its neck. The gel itself is deep purple with shimmer suspended in it. You can see it in the photo above. The gel shimmers when I use it, but it doesn’t leave glitter on my skin.

What I love most about Muddled Plum is the fragrance. I don’t think I had ever smelled anything with a plum note before trying this. The plum is definitely there but it is part of a mélange of scents. In my initial review, I think I described it as “holiday punch”. I have since found out that there’s oak-aged rum in the fragrance, so it’s more of a cocktail than a punch. Other fragrance notes include warm saffron and sandalwood. It’s a warm, somewhat sweet, piquant, and enveloping scent.

The full size bottle of Molton Brown Muddled Plum Bath & Shower Gel contains 10 fl. oz./300 ml and they always last me at least a year. It’s priced at $33 at Lord & Taylor. I think they have some left if you think Muddled Plum would suit you, too. And you can use Ebates on Lord & Taylor’s website. I got free shipping via Shoprunner that comes as a perk with my American Express card.

I love Muddled Plum so much that I tracked down a bottle of the limited edition eau de toilette! I’ll let you know what I think when that arrives.
