More Almay Softies Cushiony Eyeshadow Singles: Peach & Grape

When they first came out, I wrote about Almay Softies. I had picked up Smoke, and over time, I found myself reaching for it often as a crease or V shade in an everyday look. Some time later, I picked up Petal, a beautiful matte pink, and I use that shade all the time for my everyday looks. So pretty!

I had a couple of CVS Extrabucks when I went to CVS to pick up probiotics. I thought I needed a treat since I was feeling under the weather. Almay had a buy one, get one 50% off deal, so I picked up Peach Fuzz and Vintage Grape, both mattes.

Peach is a great shade for blue eyes. Since it’s at the opposite on the color wheel, it makes blue eyes pop. I expected Vintage Grape to be a deeper shade since they have a lighter Lilac. So I’m a tiny bit disappointed but I’ll play around with it some more and it’s possible that once I really work the surface, I’ll be able to build up more and deeper color. Also, the swatches below are on bare skin. Mostly, I use them over primer if I’m wearing them on their own.

If somehow these have eluded you, they are semi-sheer but buildable shadows that are similar to the Milani Bella Eyes that came out after the Almay Softies. They are creamy-ish and cushiony. They’re best applied by patting them on with a finger, but they do blend somewhat.

They make a good base or a nice everyday eye shadow. Obviously, I like the Softies since I’ve bought 4 of them, and Cashmere, a buttery pale yellow/beige is next on my list.

There are 11 colors in a mix of mattes and subtle shimmers, and Almay Softies are priced at about $5 each. They’re widely available at drugstores and Walmart. And if you’re sensitive to dimethicone, skip these  😉

Do you own any of the Almay Softies?

  1. Yes I have glazed over these shadows .. but have been interested in trying at least one or two. Sometimes I gravitate toward palettes more than single eye shadows.

    1. For everyday looks, I usually use only one or two colors and I don’t want too much brightness to go to the supermarket. So these are perfect for everyday use or as a base under another shade. I use them instead of a crayon. And they must be applied with a finger to heat up the formula. The pink is especially pretty!

  2. I love the look that you created, Allison! I will have to pick up a couple next time I go to CVS– you have convinced me that I need to try them! I love cushiony textured products, they are so much fun to play with!

    1. Oh, thanks, Helen! The Almay Softies are great everyday shades or good to use as a base. They need to be applied with the finger in order to heat up the cream. I love ’em and use them instead of crayons.

  3. I tried these before, but I wasn’t impressed with the ones that I picked up! Maybe I should try again! I didn’t feel that there was a lot of pigment with the ones I had before. Maybe trying them with my fingers would be better than a brush!

    1. If you haven’t tossed them, definitely try to apply them with your finger. They don’t work at all with a brush. The heat of your finger helps melt the formula.

I think I have all the colors (I’m not sure how many are in the line.) They’re really nice for a pretty, sheer look. I really like Cashmere as a browbone highlight.

    1. I think there are 11. I definitely plan to pick up Cashmere. Not sure if I can use it as a brow bone highlight as it may be too warm/yellow for my cool-toned skin, but I’ll give it a try.

  5. I’ve never tried these but I love an orange shadow so I love the look of peach!

    1. Thanks, Courtney! I think the Almay Softies are great everyday shadows; quick and fun colors.

  6. Peach fuzz is so pretty! It’s just the kind of shade I would wear as a transition color, though I’m not sure if the formula would work well for that.

    1. That’s a great idea, Julie, but you’re right, these need to be applied with a finger so you can’t blend them very well. But I may give it a try!

  7. I’ve always passed them by, I forgot that you liked them. CVS sometimes has a deal on them so the next time they do I’ll take a better look.

    1. Yes, I am a fan, Marcia. They’re great for me for everyday instead of crayons for a wash of color and they make a nice base. I think they’re worth trying when they’re on sale. Peach Fuzz, Petal and Smoke show up quite nicely though you need to apply them with your finger to warm up the cream to get the best, most saturated color.

  8. I did NOT know Almay had shadows like these. I love them!!

    1. Kat, I really like these Almay Softies for everyday use instead of crayons or as eyeshadow base. I love Peach Fuzz and Petal, and Smoke is a great smokey eye or V shade. I think they’re worth it especially since they’re often on sale.

  9. Vintage Grape could be such a pretty shade if it was a big more pigmented! I do like the Peach though.

    1. Yes, I agree. Of the four shades I own, Vintage Grape is a bit disappointing because it’s paler than the others and it doesn’t build up as much as they do, but the Peach and Petal are stunning. A nice alternative to crayons

  10. These sound really interesting and how pretty is Peach Fuzz? I haven’t tried much from Almay, but these do look like great base shadows.

    1. I don’t use Almay very often, but they used to be my client along with Revlon many years ago. I’m loving the Almay eye makeup remover. I’m a fan of cream shadows and this hybrid is a wonderful everyday shadow or anytime base plus a nice alternative to crayons

  11. Peach Fuzz is so pretty! Perfect color for Spring and Summer 🙂

    1. Peach Fuzz and Petal together are spring perfection!!

  12. Pretty colors, I’ve overlooked these.

  13. I love Peaches 🙂 It’s definitely “my” colour 🙂 I like the unusual packaging design too 🙂

    1. Peach Fuzz is definitely worth owning, Dorota. It’s a great shade as a base or on its own. Do you have Almay in the UK? I would think so since it’s Revlon.

  14. I have yet to try the Almay eye makeup but I do love the purple shade!

    1. Vintage Grape is very pretty, a soft lilac type shade.

  15. For some reason I never look in the Almay section when I’m out in the stores, I used to use their eye makeup remover pads a few years back but haven’t really tested their line out. The colors of the shadows are pretty

    1. Almay was my client (I’m a market researcher) some years ago, so I’ve been interested in their line because of it, I guess. Their eye makeup remover is terrific. I really like the Softies for everyday instead of eye crayons or as a base. The Peach & Petal and also Smoke are my faves.

  16. Very pretty shades indeed.

  17. Mm, those colors remind me of candy!

    1. Yes, they do! Perfect for Vday or for Easter candy!

  18. Thanks for the review! I like the soft, pastel color of these. 🙂 I have never picked any up, though, as I tend to prefer my colors to pack a punch whenever I sit down to do my eye makeup 🙂

    1. These do really show up, but I have only tried the pastels and Smoke that works for me in the crease or V. You’re probably right that these aren’t like UD brights!
