More from Butter LONDON’S Glazen Line: Blush and Eye Gloss Mini Set

In early April, I wrote about my experiences with Butter LONDON’S Glazen Eye Gloss in Moonstone. As a cream makeup lover, I am a big fan of this weird, bouncy, mousse or gelée consistency that’s best applied with my fingers. In fact, I liked it so much that I bought two more Glazen products: blush and a set of 4 mini Eye Glosses. Let’s start with the Eye Gloss set.

Majesty’s Metals Glazen Eye Gloss Set

You know I’m a sucker for a sale especially on a product that I already like. So when Facebook showed me an ad for the Majesty’s Metals Eye Gloss set on sale for $19, marked down from $32, I was more than interested. The set includes 4 mini sizes of the Glazen Eye Gloss.

The minis contain 0.1 oz./2.8 g versus the 0.19 oz./5.5 g for the full size Eye Gloss, about half the size of the full, certainly plenty big enough for me.

I have heard from others that the Glazen products dry out over time (about 6-8 months). I make sure I put the plastic topper back securely and screw on the cap very well so that they’ll last as long as possible.

The four shades in the kit include Moonstone, the  cool-toned bronzey-taupe shade I already own in full size, but I didn’t mind getting a repeat. In fact, I took the Moonstone mini with me to Amsterdam, and I was glad to have it. The other three shades are:

  • Starlight: not available in full size, BL describes it as “soft shimmering champagne”, though it looks to me pale pinkish rose gold
  • Icing: described by BL as “cool-toned mauve” that looks like deeper rose gold to me
  • Amethyst: deep purple with pink and blue tiny glitter that BL describes as “eggplant”.

Truth be told, I bought the set for Amethyst that doesn’t seem to be available anymore in full size, but I’m glad to have the other lighter shades that I can wear anytime.

One thing that’s a little odd about the set is that Butter LONDON didn’t label each shade.

Three of the four shades – Starlight, Icing and Moonstone – are close enough in color that it’s a bit difficult to tell them apart in the jars. But I guess that doesn’t matter that much because they are different enough, though not vastly different, when you open the jars and apply them.

Butter LONDON describes Eye Gloss as looking “wet”, and frankly, I don’t get that. To me, they look metallic and some look more glittery than others.

The formula is very buildable and definitely crease resistant, but it isn’t particularly blendable. It sets quickly, so most often I wear one shade on my lids – though occasionally, I’ll dab on the lightest one, Starlight, in the inner corner for additional brightness. The swatches are not over primer, although I apply primer on my lids when I wear them out of habit and for more moisture on my dry lids. The color does not fade and remains the same till removed.

I think this set for $19 is a great way to try this unique formula eye shadow. The full size Eye Glosses are priced at $24. BTW, if you’re interested in trying the Glazen Eye Gloss, Blush or any butter LONDON product, the website is having a 25% off sale now for Mother’s Day though I don’t know if you can get an additional 25% off on the $19 Majesty’s Metal set – that would really be a steal. Also, the BL website has free shipping.

Glazen Blush Gelée

During the Ulta Platinum member sale in April, I picked up one of the Glazen Blushes.

I swatched the four available shades in the store on my hand and snapped a photo even though the light wasn’t great so you could get an idea of the shades: Dazzle: mauve, Glimmer: rosy, Flicker: apricot, Sparkle: nude.

I bought Flicker, a golden apricot shade that BL describes as “peach”, because I don’t own any blush shades like it.

Like the Eye Gloss, I apply the blush with my finger, dabbing a few dots on the apples of my cheeks and blending it quickly with my finger. I suppose I could blend with a brush but I don’t see the need to dirty a brush.

Also like the Gloss, the color is buildable and can be highly pigmented if you like that kind of blush look (I don’t), so I apply little dots for relatively sheer color. As you know, I have dry skin so the color does not fade over time at all.

The Gelee Blush contains 3.5 oz./10 g and is priced at $26.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water/Eau), Mica, Butylene Glycol, Talc, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Betaine, Silica, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polysorbate 20, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Gellan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Tin Oxide, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491 (Iron Oxides), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride).

Here, I’m wearing Glazen Eye Gloss, shade Icing and Blush, shade Flicker.

So there you have it! Are you interested in any of the butter London Glazen makeup? Have you tried any of them? They’ve also got a highlighter called Face Glow that I haven’t tried yet.
