A big display for MUA – Makeup Academy – Cosmetics appeared at one of the CVS stores near me about a month ago.
I’ve been dying to buy something to try it out. I got $5 in Extrabucks from CVS, so I decided to spend it on MUA. So, what could I buy for $5? Lipsticks were in the $9 range, and I wanted to stay on budget. I have been dying to try a pair of demi lashes, and they had a pair for $5. Perfect!
I have only worn false lashes once before, about a month ago, so I am far from an expert at application. I thought demi lashes might be even easier to apply than full lashes (not necessarily!). Plus I love the elongated eye look that longer outer lashes give. My colorist at Vidal Sassoon had semi-permanent demi lashes applied at a salon, and she looks so lovely in them. I wanted to try to capture that look for much less money 😉
The lashes didn’t come with glue so I used the glue that came with my Eyelure Lashes. I applied it along the seam, and let it set for about 10 seconds. I tried to apply the lashes with tweezers, but I find it much easier to use my fingers. I got them on without too much trouble, although it took a while to get the lashes on my left eye to adhere to my lashline.
Here’s a daytime-ish look with a neutral eye and matte pink lip.
Next, I decided to amp it up and try an evening-ish look with gold eye shadow and a coral lip.
Overall, I liked the MUA Natural Demi Lashes. They were lightweight, and stayed put till I removed them. (This time, I didn’t wear the lashes to the beach or to go jogging!). They came off easily when I wanted to remove them.
But these demi lashes were very long and dramatic! Perhaps a bit too much for me? What do you think? OK for evening?
Next time, I want to try to find a pair of demi lashes that are not quite so long so that I can wear them during the day but still get that longer outer lash look that I love. But in stores like CVS, Walgreens, Bed Bath & Beyond, demi lashes are hard to find. I suppose I can trim them myself, but I’m concerned about cutting them equally and also about removing the “curl”. Can you recommend some more moderate demi lashes?
Makeup Academy lashes are made in China and are made of synthetic fibers. At CVS, the Natural Demi Accent Lashes were priced at $5.

I have not seen this brand at my CVS either. I agree with you Allison, those are some pretty long lashes. Great for flirtatious eye batting though!!! 😉
I have never worn false eyelashes. I think I would be too aware of them to enjoy the look.
These are too long, Laura, but you really should try some more natural looking lashes. They really are fun, and they look good. If they are stuck on well, you won’t be aware of them!

I have a pair of the Ardell half lashes that i bought at CVS .. haven’t worn them yet .. but they are shorter. I must wear my lashes one day .. (one day!).

I’ve never used demi lashes. They look a bit long to me – I’d rather have all my lashes blend together, unless I’m going for the obviously fake route, like rhinestone-studded falsies!

Yes, they are a bit long, but I do want a pair of slightly less long demise for that elongated, doe-eyed look.
I am heading to my CVS like ASAP. I never knew they carried MUA cosmetics. Totally checking this out, those lashes are phenomenal and they look super gorgeous on you!

I had a makeover once and the MUA used individual “clumps” of lashes and applied them only at the outer corners–it turned out really great and natural looking.

I just bought a variety pack of Ardell lashes at Job Lot, and it contained the individual clumps of lashes. I will try putting them at the outer corner. I just hope I can apply them! I’ll let you know how they turn out!

Trimming lashes is win-win. You use small manicure scissors and just snip the ends gently to your desired length. You can also do individuals from Ardell and apply where needed. The individuals are my fave.
