My First Glossybox: “Secret Garden” for September 2016

I’ve been curious about Glossybox for some time now, so I was thrilled when I got a chance to try out the September 2016 Glossybox.

Because September is fashion month, Glossybox, in developing the theme for this month’s box, was inspired by how fashion and beauty come together. They chose Portugeuse illustrator, Antonio Soares, known for his avant-garde, high fashion style rendered primarily in water color. (His name was new to me so I wanted to learn more about his work. Check it out here.) When I unwrapped his gorgeous illustrated box, it was like entering a Secret Garden, the theme for this month’s beauty box.

The inside was so nicely wrapped, I hated to disturb it. The illustrated accordion card with information on the theme, the products in the box, and a sneak peek at next’s month’s box was right up front to help me navigate the box. As you may know, I think of subscription boxes like presents. I love to be surprised! So I didn’t look at the product card first.

I decided to make my usual rudimentary unboxing video (sorry, I couldn’t get my iPhone to stay put in landscape mode and I’m clueless when it comes to editing). As always, I laughed watching the video because I occasionally messed up on what I thought the product was! Wearing my contact lenses in rather low light makes it hard for me to see small fonts. But I eventually figured it out. Using the product card would’ve been so much easier.  🙄

What was in the Secret Garden box?

Here’s the list:

  • Sesderma Sensyses Cleanser and C-Vit Moisturizing Serum, samples: I wasn’t familiar with this brand, but I’m always game to try something new. So far, I used the serum last night (unfortunately more than half of the serum in the tiny bottle seemed to have evaporated because there’s only enough in it for two nights use, boo hoo). I liked it, and I guess I’ll finish it up tonight, but I didn’t get enough to form an opinion of it. Haven’t tried the cleanser yet. Perhaps tonight.
  • Sally Hershberger 24K Supreme Stylist Dry Shampoo, travel size: From what I understand, NY hair stylist and stylist to the stars Sally Hershberger makes fabulous haircare products. Unfortunately, dry shampoo isn’t my jam. I would just as soon wash my hair. So I’ll put this in my giveaway stash for someone who can really appreciate it. I’m going to do a big haircare products giveaway soon.
  • Vince Camuto Capri eau de parfum, deluxe sample: I saw this fragrance reviewed by several other bloggers last month, and it got my attention. I usually go for big exotic oriental scents, but this clean, fresh scent is lovely. It reminds me of the beach on a clear day. Plus it’s a nice big sample. Score!
  • ModelLauncher Brow Duo Pencil, full size: This is the kind of brow pencil I love. Slanted tip on one end and spoolie on the other. Perfect. The shade is universal taupe so even this redhead can give it a go. $12
  • Korres Modern Greek Apothecary Twist Lipstick, full size: I discovered this wonderful natural brand at Sephora years ago, and I love Korres’ makeup and skincare. This was the item in the box that I’m most excited about. Who doesn’t love a red lip crayon? “Allure” is the perfect shade for me. And I love how easy it is to apply a lip crayon even in red. This goes right into my purse makeup bag. $18

So what did I think about my first Glossybox? Love it! I was blown away that I received two full size products in addition to the deluxe samples. And the perfume and dry shampoo were extremely generous for deluxe samples. Also, the brands were a good mix of prestige and indie brands. No drugstore brands here. Plus the illustrated box itself is just too pretty to recycle! Even the insides of the box and top are illustrated!

Glossybox is a definite step up from the subscriptions that I currently have. Though the price is higher, the size of the products and the quality of the brands make Glossybox one to consider. What I also love is that Glossybox gives you a range of ways to subscribe rather than one size fits all. You can buy one box, 3 boxes, 6 boxes or a year. That way, you can try out the subscription that best suits you without making a lifetime commitment! The longer you subscribe for, the more you save. Makes sense. I haven’t calculated the exact value of the Secret Garden box (I’m estimating about $50?), but the two full size products alone are worth $30, more than the $21 cost of a single Glossybox. Excellent.

Glossybox also sells limited edition boxes like the Filled With Love Box for $40 that’s filled with $148 worth of products (6 products including makeup, nail care, haircare, and skincare) I’m drooling over. Take a look.

Have you tried Glossybox yet? Is it a subscription you’d consider? Don’t you love the illustrated box by Antonio Soares?

If you do decide to subscribe, I’d be grateful as always if you would use my referral code here. xoxo

    1. I hear ya, Shireen! I will have to move out of my house soon because I have so much stuff. But I am super-impressed with this subbie box. The red lip crayon from Korres is gorgeous and so comfortable to wear. I am thrilled to have it. And the ModelLauncher brow pencil is perfect. In fact, I like and can use everything in the box. It is either twice or almost twice the cost of my other 3 subscriptions, but getting two full-size products from excellent brands was impressive. I think it’s worth trying a short-term subscription to see how it goes 🙂

  7. That brow pencil looks awesome! I’ve never tried Glossy Box but this looks like a great subscription!
