My Holiday Nail Polish Choices 2018

This fall, I hardly wore nail polish at all because I was doing a lot of garden work. And as the temperatures got colder, my long summer nails broke. But after taking advantage of the pre-holiday sales, I have a lot of new polishes to try out.

I was definitely in the mood for shimmer, glitter and effects rather than my usual creams. So these are the polishes that have been on my nails over the past two weeks.

Zoya Aggie

Aggie came in one of the quads, Tis The Season, that I bought on Black Friday, $9 for 4 polishes, the steal of the year! I bought that particular quad for Jeff’s older daughter who loves purple. I swapped out Aggie, that appeared to be a gold holo, for a medium purple from another quad, All Snuggled Up, that looked like it would go with a sweater that she wore on Thanksgiving.

Zoya describes Aggie as “a gold holo flip liquid metal with bronze micro glitter”. It’s a gold/copper shade. It gets a 4 out of 5 in terms of opacity, and maybe I would have liked it more if I had applied a third coat. Although an attractive color with a metallic finish, I found it a tad disappointing. It did have an olive green holo effect, but the only time I saw it was in the shower – kind of limiting!

I wore Aggie to the dinner at the house of our friends on Christmas eve. It wore well without chipping along with Morgan Taylor React Base Coat and Cuccio 7 Second Reactive Top Coat.

Zoya Teigen

I bought Teigen a year ago, and somehow it managed to get lost in my stash. I had never used it. But when I finally found it, the color in the bottle was very enticing. It looked like a deep burgundy holo with gold. Perfect for Christmas and beyond, I thought.

Zoya describes Teigen as “a full-coverage pink toned cranberry with a copper liquid metal”, and that is a good description of the color on my nails. It is much more “pink-toned” than I expected. It looks like a cool-toned raspberry background overlaid with warm-toned golden/copper to me. Somehow the cool-toned raspberry fights a bit with the warm-toned golden copper, but it’s a pretty shade nevertheless.

Again with the MT Basecoat and Cuccio Topcoat, I got good wear from it.

Morgan Taylor Platinum Liquid Bling

Morgan Taylor polishes were my big discovery in 2018. I really really love the wide brush, the easy application, the quick drying formula that is quite long lasting.

I picked up Liquid Bling/Fame Game that was on sale for $5 when I was ordering from Ulta during the last 20% off sale in December. So it cost me $4, regular price is $9.50.

The shade is described as silver holographic glitter. On my nails, it looks like a light grey shade till the sun hits it and it looks silvery white with lots of multicolored glitter and a nice holo effect. Love it! This will be my New Year’s Eve polish. Oops, looks like a missed a few spots during clean up!

As I mentioned above, I’m getting really good wear from my polishes using the Morgan Taylor React Base Coat and the super quick drying Cuccio 7 Second Reactive Topcoat. After a few days, I might be some tip wear or a chip on the index finger of my left hand (I’m a lefty), but I easily fix that and the mani lasts me several more days. I recommend them both.

What’s on your nails for New Year’s? Happy New Year 2019!

  1. What beautiful, and festive, polishes! Perfect shades and finishes to ring in the new year! Happy New Year, Allison!

  2. Try Aggie over an opaque gold or a darker creme polish. It’s a shame she sheered out so much but a layer of polish underpants might really help.
Love that silver holo Morgan Taylor too! I’ve got OPI DS Sapphire around here somewhere and it usually satisfies my cravings for silvery holo things. 🙂
Right now I’m wearing Zoya Pixie Dust in Levi. It’s pretty much the same colour as my favourite OPI Liquid Sand (Honey Ryder) but it has added holographic glitter. Very sparkly.

    1. Wearing Aggie over another shade is a great idea, Rachel. In fact, Zoya suggests that as an alternative, but I thought I’d see how it did on its own. I need to take a lot at OPI DS Sapphire coz silver can do no wrong in my book. I don’t like the sandlike finish of the Pixie Dusts so even though I own a couple I don’t wear them even tho from afar, they look great.

      1. If you can get your mitts on DS Sapphire I think you’d like it.

I totally get that texture is not for everyone. And I cannot say why they don’t bother me (because knowing myself, I would have assumed having sandpaper nails would bug me to no end) but I’m cool with it. Now they’re pretty much my favourite finish. They dry pretty fast, don’t need topcoat, and they wear like concrete! Which is probably because they practically ARE…. lol Plus they look neat. I guess I’m willing to put up with my fingernails occasionally sticking to my pocket linings if the flipside is that they look like sparkly gumdrops. 😉

  3. I love that holo silver from MT. Great choices Allison, happy new year to you!

  4. Those are beautiful polish choices. Perfect for the holidays.

  5. If I don’t wear polish my nails will break. I need polish to strengthen them. My favorite of these three is the Morgan Taylor. That one really stands out.

    1. I need to look at Chanel Peridot (one of my favorite semi-precious gemstones) and OPI Just Spotted The Lizard – they sound right up my alley!

  13. Good choices. You have pretty hands!!

    1. Thank you, Shelley xo Sadly, I have so many dark spots on my hands from not thinking about wearing sunscreen on them when I’m outdoors jogging, at the beach, gardening etc.

  14. I really love all these shades. And yeah, multichromes often look more like chromes and show less shift on the nail.

  15. I love Liquid Bling!!! The silver and more subtle holo combo is really pretty. I need to check out more of that collection, this would be really pretty in a blue.

    1. I need to check out the rest of the MT collection that has Liquid Bling in it because I love this shade and Morgan Taylor because of the wider brush and fabulous formula is fast becoming my favorite “mainstream” nail polish.
