My Love for Jesse’s Girl Lipstick 18

I have a couple of lipstick lines that I just love (Tarte Lip Sculptor – review – and Too Faced La Creme – review), and now I can add Jesse’s Girl Lipstick 18 to that exclusive club.

About 6 weeks ago, I was sent the entire range of Jesse’s Girl Lipstick 18 that consists of 12 different shades with several different finishes. What’s been bugging me is why are these lipsticks called Lipstick 18? Why “18”? There are 12, not 18 lipsticks in the line. I wonder if the number 18 has some special significance for Jesse’s Girl that I’m not aware of because they have other lipstick lines called Glow Stix 18 and Matte Finish Lipstick 18. In Hebrew numerology, the number 18 signifies good luck. Good luck lipsticks?

At any rate, I had the good luck to receive all 12 of the lipsticks in this delightful product line to wear. Lipstick 18 consists primarily of neutral-shades with a couple of brights thrown in for variety. The lipsticks have women’s names to identify each one.

Since true mattes are not my thing, I was especially glad to receive these lipsticks that don’t have a matte among them (JG has a separate matte line.) The finishes range from sheer to cream to semi-matte. Not surprisingly, my faves are mostly the creams.

Each tube of Lipstick 18 has an identifying block of color at the bottom to help you choose your shade. The neutrals include browns, peaches and mauves. Though the shade identifier may look only slightly different, on the lips each has its own personality. There’s a hot pink, pale pink, sangria, and red in the mix to keep things interesting.

The Lipstick 18 shades are very nicely pigmented. Most of them last a long time on my lips, about 6 hours. While they need a touchup after a meal, some of the color still remains on my lips as it fades.

Let’s take a look at the shades. The following color and finish descriptions are from Jesse’s Girl. I’m not quite sure what the difference is between those with a “cream finish” and a “cream shiny finish”, lol.

  • Penelope: rich bubble gum pink with a cream finish
  • Yesenia: soft dusty rose with a sheer finish
  • Angeles: muted plum with semi-matte finish
  • Victoria: soft blush color with a sheer shiny finish
  • Georgia: deep neutral rose with a shiny cream finish
  • Krystal: warm neutral pink color with a cream finish; to me, this one looks like a pale peach with a semi-matte finish
  • Carmen: rich terra-cotta with a shiny cream finish
  • Christina: mauve with a sheer shiny finish

  • Ventura: auburn raspberry with a semi-matte finish
  • Niki: muted raspberry with a creamy shiny finish
  • Elizabeth: bold sangria with a semi-matte finish
  • Veronica: ruby red with a sheer shiny finish

Not surprisingly, my favorite is Veronica because I adore red. But because Veronica has a sheer finish, I will often wear it as an everyday shade because it’s not “too much”.

Nevertheless, I wear a lot of the neutrals. Carmen is one of my favorite neutrals.

Here’s another one before I go: Christina.

In terms of the formula, a few of the shades are lightly hydrating, but most are neither hydrating nor drying. These are insanely wearable lipsticks in a variety of great shades.

If you’re looking for a little treat or pick-me-up, these lippies at $4.99 each for 3.8g/0.13 oz. are the way to go. They’re cruelty-free and made in the U.S. Jesse’s Girl is sold on their website where you can also find the ingredient list for each shade, and at select Rite Aid stores. Made in the U.S.

Do you see a shade you’d like among the Lipstick 18 choices?

Looking at the tubes, I was positive I was going to like Elizabeth the most, but after seeing the swatches, I think Carmen is my favorite. I love that they are cruelty free and a fantastic price!

    1. Carmen is such an amazing neutral that you can wear anytime. Elizabeth is deep and dramatic. You need them both, Leslie, and at $4.99, they don’t break the bank!

  8. Sandy Pincombe says:

Thanks for the great review… I really loved Victoria. I think it will be coming to my house very soon.

    1. You’re welcome, Sandy, and thank you for saying so! I am wearing Victoria right now. The description via JG is apt: it is a “soft blush with a sheer shiny finish”. The neutral shade is a little lighter than my lips, and the shine gives it an almost pearl quality. It’s very creamy, and it feels great on. LMK what you think if you do pick it up!!

  9. I’m pretty sure the 18 is for new products in 2018. I noticed that all repackaged/reformukated goodies and launches this year have the 18 after them. It seems to me that would be lingo they’d leave off the site and make that more clear though! I love these new lipsticks, they are fabulous!

    1. Judy, thank you for solving the mystery!! I am so embarrassed that it didn’t even occur to me – I guess I’m still not with the program that it’s 2018!

  10. Yesenia is the one I’ll pick up next time I’m at a Rite Aid. The price on these is incredible.

    1. I think Yesenia is a great shade for you, Marcia. It’s a light dusty rose/pink/mauve shade with a sheer shiny finish – so pretty. And you’re right, $4.99 is a great price for a cruelty-free lipstick that is so pleasant to wear.

  11. I see several shades I like and you and I are lipstick twins so I know I would like the line!

    1. Cindy, I think you’d like a lot of these neutral shades!

  12. I had to pick up Krystal since I know Krystal. 🙂 I’m excited about trying more of their lip lines too!

    1. Oh, was Krystal named for Krystal Emery???? It’s a beautiful shade!

  13. Veronica is the shade I would have chosen as well. I’ll have to see if I can find it at my local Rite-Aid.

    1. One of the Rite-Aid stores near me carries some of the Jesse’s Girl product line, but not enough of their products in my estimation. I have to try another RA and see if they have more product. I hope you can find them. Veronica is a joy to wear!

  14. I only hear great things about these!!!

    1. They are truly terrific – highly pigmented and creamy – and such a great deal!

  15. I absolutely love Krystal and Carmen! Carmen looks great on you. They all look so creamy and rich.

  16. I’m partial to nude colors when it comes to lipstick so I absolutely love their shade selection. Really well done for such an affordable drugstore brand.

    1. I’m so glad you like them, too. It really is worth it to pick at least one up!

  17. SQUEE THAT’S MY LIPSTICK! <3 <3 I'm definitely a fan of these for obvious reasons but I also really just love how affordable the entire line is!

    1. That is soooooo AWESOME, Krystal! I didn’t know until Kristi mentioned it in her comment. That is just the greatest thing! And Krystal is a gorgeous summer shade. So does that mean that you know the owner of Jesse’s Girl? They are such a wonderful affordable cruelty-free brand. So happy I was introduced to the brand – the liquid liner, I believe – by Courtney several years ago

      1. I do! I met them several years ago and have done a few other brand promotions with them including a print campaign with Rite Aid. I’m also really good friends with their daughter, Christine, and we went to BeautyJudy’s wedding together a couple of years ago! They are the nicest family and I’m really proud of everything they’ve done!

  18. Madhubani says:

All of them look so amazing.. Beautiful colors. Being a red lipstick hoarder, Veronica would be my pick. And you look so pretty 🙂

  19. I am loving their lip sticks!!! Great color selection and the formula is amazing considering the price point!
