My Milk Makeup Birthday Gift from Sephora

Retail Sample/Gift Affiliate Links

Usually I go to the Sephora store to pick up my birthday gift, and that often coincides with the Spring VIB event. But this year, everything is online. I got an email a couple of weeks ago that my favorite Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb was back in stock. Yay!

I knew that the VIB sale was coming up, but I was literally afraid it would sell out by the time of the sale because it still wasn’t available at Ulta or even on the Belif website. I figured I’d better be safe than sorry. For the first time, I paid full price for it!  So I ordered the Eye Bomb and I chose my Sephora birthday gift at the same time. They arrived a couple of days ago.

In the aftermath of coloring my hair, I decided to put on a little makeup, and I thought I’d try the makeup from Milk. The gift included:

Milk Makeup mini Kush Mascara and Lip + Cheek mini stick

I didn’t notice the Hydro Grip Primer sample, so I haven’t used that yet.

Mini Kush Mascara

I’ve heard a lot about Milk Kush High Volume Mascara. Courtney from Phyrra.com really liked it, and I often try things that she recommends. So that was one reason why I chose the Milk Makeup birthday gift.

The wand has a large fluffy bristle brush head. I usually prefer a wand with plastic teeth that’s good for lash separation, but I was open minded. I tried the mascara yesterday, and for me, there will definitely be a learning curve. Because of how my lashes are arrayed on my downturned eyes, the football shaped brush head was a bit tough for me to use. However, a bristle brush can be better at creating volume. The Kush Mascara formula coupled with the bristle brush really is good at providing volume. But to me, it was less effective at lengthening.

By the end of the day, some of my lashes had stuck together. That was surprising because they hadn’t stuck together after I applied the mascara.

Kush Mascara’s shade of black is quite amazing. It’s the blackest black mascara I think I’ve ever used. So if you want the blackest black, you’ll like this.

Another positive of Kush Mascara was that it was a snap to remove with micellar water. It came off in a flash.

Although this was not a home run for me on my first try, it is intriguing enough for me to try again to get better with the brush.

Mini Lip + Cheek

I love cream/stick makeup so I was eager to try this. The shade that’s part of the gift called Werk is an attractive dusty rose, the kind of shade that I often gravitate towards.

I tried it on my lips, and I wasn’t impressed. It was an MLBB color, and it doesn’t really show up on my lips. That’s OK because I don’t usually use the same stick on my lips and cheeks.

I intended to use Lip + Cheek as a blush, and as a blush, I really like it. It can be a deep rose shade that I think is lovely, or it can be sheered out a bit with a blush brush. It has a satin finish. There’s a bit of a golden glow to it that I also love. For me, this product is a hit. Sorry for the blur, but this is what it looks like sheered out:

In addition to the Milk Makeup samples, I received some other samples with my Sephora purchase. bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream was one of the samples I chose. bareMinerals original loose powder foundation was actually the first foundation that I wore for several years, but I have never tried any of their liquid foundations.

The sample came with four shades to choose from. Vanilla 02 looked like the best match for me of the four. The color leaned a little too peach/yellow for my pink and blue undertones, but it was close enough.

The gel cream formula was very nice and it definitely felt hydrating. I applied it with an Artis style foundation brush.

Sadly, what I didn’t like about the Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream was that it had a glowy but greasy looking finish. If I had been going somewhere instead of staying home, I would have felt the need to use finishing powder to tone it down. It almost looked like my skin was wet. I didn’t like it.

Here I am wearing the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue, the Milk Makeup Kush Mascara and Lip + Cheek blush:

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue is called Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. It’s actually a tinted moisturizer, and it provided sheer to at most medium coverage. By the end of the day, my skin with its dark spots showed through completely. Not good.

In sum, this was not a good foundation or even tinted moisturizer for me. I’m glad, however, that I got to try a sample.

Happy (belated) birthday, lady!!! <3 Also super happy your fave eye stuff was back! Yay!
I hadn't looked at the Sephora birthday gifts yet. Not that I can redeem until November, but yeah. I'll most likely go for the Milk set too since I like the mascara so much. I just had to chuck my big tube (it was soooo time to go) and the only reason I didn't buy a replacement during the current sale was that I've got a bunch of different minis to use up, Milk included. It definitely has a learning curve but it makes my lashes so nice and soft, not all weird and crispy like dead spider legs. Probably not the best mental image, my apologies. 😛

    1. Thank you, Rachel xo It will keep at it with the Milk Mascara. You are right, in addition to being a cinch to remove, it leaves lashes soft. I just need to get my lashes to stop sticking together when I use that big fluffy wand! Hope you’re doing well 🙂

  3. I just ordered the same thing for my bday Sephora deal!

  4. Milk is one of my favorite brands. I chose this too for my birthday gift. I’ve worn Kush mascara for a long time now and this mini wasn’t exactly like the others I’ve gotten. It dried out faster. But I was able to learn how much I like the cream blush and later bought another. I also like the sample primer and have a mini of that now too.

    1. Glad to know you love the Milk blush too. It is so lovely. I need to put on foundation again one of these days and try the primer. I will keep working on the mascara (although I haven’t been wearing mascara very often) especially since I don’t want it to dry out! I’ll keep an eye on that.

  5. I didn’t get my gift in March due to COVID… I would have LOVED this!

    1. What a bummer! I needed to place an online order so I added it onto that. But it was better to go to the store and grab it, back in the “old days”

  6. Your cheeks are so glowy! By the time my birthday comes around in Dec., they are always out of the good stuff.
