I heard the siren song of a discount shopping site that showed up in my Facebook feed. I had followed them previously, but something made me unsubscribe several months ago. They didn’t give up because there was their ad again calling to me.
What caught my eye was an embroidered bag. I love embroidery. In fact, I used to embroider a lot. I made these pillows and the pillowcases in the background.
I also embroidered this lap quilt, though someone with a quilting machine did the quilting for me.
When I was in my 20s, I embroidered my dresses and my jeans. About 15 years ago, I started embroidering a table cloth but when my eyes changed, it got to be too difficult to see the tiny stitches that I was making. I need to find it and give it another try if I can remember how to make the stitches!
This is the brightly colored purse from Open Sky that caught my eye.
It was very inexpensive – $15 and change in total, and it is made in China. I assumed correctly that it would be machine embroidery. Nevertheless, I liked the folkloric look that’s cute for fall. Also, I was curious about Open Sky, so I took a chance and bought it. It arrived about a week later shipped directly from China.
I like it a lot! Although machine embroidered, it is nicely done. It’s a heavy canvas-type black fabric with fabric beaded handles that are just long enough to let me wear it as a shoulder bag or short enough to carry it as a handbag.
Inside, it has two zippered compartments. It has a flat bottom so it can stand up when filled with my stuff. I holds a lot. Plus, it is so lightweight! I carried it all day, and it was very comfortable.
It’s called the Yunnan Ethnic Embroidered Bag on Open Sky. In addition to the design that I chose, there are 11 other options, some multicolored like mine and some in a single shade family, e.g. blues.
For the price, I especially love it! Now the price is down to $10.39. If you’re a fan of ethnic styling, you can’t go wrong. Buy a couple now for inexpensive but fun holiday gifts.
I still don’t “get” the Open Sky model. They say they’re giving you “credits” to get discounts on their merchandise, but that seems like a gimmick to me. They don’t carry well known brands, and I assume that none of their items are made in the U.S. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with the price and quality of the bag I bought, and someday I might buy something else on Open Sky.
Are you into embroidery? Have you bought anything on Open Sky?
That purse is gorgeous! I love to embroider and cross stitch. It’s so relaxing to put on some head phones and cross stitch. Ahhh…
Thank you, Beverly! I’m glad to know that you do and love embroidery too! PS your giveaway prize is on its way and should arrive soon
What a beautiful purse– what a great purchase! Your pillows are absolutely gorgeous! I am so impressed by your skills!
Thank you, Helen xoxo
Lovely purse! I also like embroidery, it’s always beautiful and reminds me of summer 🙂
Thank you so much, Constance! I’m glad you’re an embroidery fan, too. I couldn’t resist this purse because of the bright colors that remind me of Mexican embroidery, though that is usually done by hand!
That purse is so pretty and girl! Your needlework is gorgeous.
Thank you, Erika xo
I like it! Very boho chic! I like your denim on denim ensemble too!
Thank you, Kathryne! I’m laughing about my “denim ensemble” 😉
I’ve never learned embroidery though I did used to do needlepoint. Crafts weren’t my mom’s thing so neither my sister nor I did them. I love the colors in this bag and it seems so fitting for your style. Use it in good health (as my mom would say).
Thank you, Marcia! My mother knit on occasion, but I never learned. I must have been channeling my great aunt Ida who I had absolutely nothing in common with, but she was an expert crocheter and embroiderer. I taught myself, but it must have been in the genes 😉
What a pretty bag! The bright colors and silver contrast beautifully on the black background. It reminds me of patterns I have seen elsewhere in the world through my travels but I can’t quite remember where…
I did embroidery for a while, cross stitch and needlepoint. I love your pillows, your skills are impressive! That bag was a great find!
Thank you, Cindy!
That is gorgeous!!! My mom is very into embroidery and needle point. I’ve never been able to do anything like that, ha!!!
Even without knowing you liked embroidery I would say that this purse is so you! It looks like such a pretty bag and you wear it so well.
Thank you, Cassie!
