My Splurge: Hourglass Beveled Shadow Brush

I Bought This, Affiliate Links

My friend, Lola’s Secret Beauty Blog, wrote about several Hourglass makeup brushes that she recently bought. How much she liked them really got my attention. So when Bergdorf Goodman had a 30% off sale not long ago, I decided to try one.

I haven’t shopped at Bergdorf Goodman in decades. When I lived in NYC, I used to get dressed up before I went into that store! How times have changed. My hair stylist told me that Bergdorf’s has changed too, and that it is no longer the stuffy high end store it once was. Not that I would want it to be still be the faux exclusive store it was, but she said the New York store didn’t look the same at all. Oh well. Retailing has been changed forever by the pandemic and other forces. But enough about that.

None of the brushes that Lola bought were on sale, so I had to choose another. I picked the No. 12 Beveled Shadow Brush, and I’m glad I did. The size of this versatile brush as well as the beveled bristles make it perfect for applying cream shadow to my lid and powder shadow to my crease, outer V and inner corner. It can also be used to apply liquid shadows.

The brush itself is very soft and densely packed with synthetic Taklon bristles. The weighted metal handle gives me the feeling of more control in application and blending. There is no ferule per se, but instead the handle is crimped where the fibers are inserted for a sleek look. Hopefully, it will wear well over time. The bristles are easy to clean, and they dry quickly.

The vegan, cruelty-free makeup brush is normal priced at $36, and I paid about $25, more than I usually pay for a single makeup brush, but well worth it. It is sold at Bergdorf Goodman (where it’s now back ordered!), Nordstrom, Sephora, SpaceNK, and the Hourglass website.

So happy I bought this brush since it has inspired me to put on makeup. The other day, Jeff asked me why I was getting “all dolled up”. He asked if it was to “improve my mood”. He was right, it certainly did.

    1. Thank you for introducing me to Hourglass brushes. The specific brushes that you bought were either not on sale or were out of stock, but I am so impressed with the precision and versatility of the Beveled Shadow Brush. It is perfect! Now, I want more Hourglass brushes!

What a super brush that must be! You look lovely, btw!!!

    1. I’m usually happy with most brushes, and I have a ton of affordable brushes plus a couple of Wayne Goss brushes. But I must say that I am really impressed with this Hourglass Beveled Shadow Brush. It is the perfect shape and bristle length for me to use as a crease brush, but also it truly deposits color exactly where I want it. None of my other brushes are as precise! Now, I want more Hourglass brushes!

  3. LOL, Marty always asks me about getting “all dolled up”. They don’t realize how much this can change your mood. I love using high end brushes. I don’t have Hourglass but one day I will. I bought some SoniaG from Beautylish and it’s a treat to use them. Beautiful picture.

You are so right! When I’m down, I’ll go in and do a sparkly makeup look, even if I’m not going anywhere, and share pics with my friends. It’s a sure fire mood-lifter.

    2. Thank you, Marcia! I love the Marty says “all dolled up”, too. Honestly, I was surprised at the amazing precision that I can get from the Hourglass Beveled Shadow Brush. Trying this one makes me want more, of course

  4. Congratulations on your purchase! I have a couple of Hourglass brushes that I splurged on a few years ago and they held up really well even with constant use and washing. You’re going to get so much use out of it!
