My Travel-Friendly Cosmetics

Jeff and I are taking our first trip outside the U.S. in 5 years this weekend. OK, we’re only going to Montreal, but I am psyched. I haven’t been to Montreal since I was either 3 or 4 years old. BTW, I’m going to take a break from blogging for a few days, so if I disappear till the middle of next week, you’ll know why.

I’m starting to pack. In addition to rain gear (the forecast shows potential rain almost every day), I am starting to put my beauty products together. Even though we’re driving, I still want to take as many minis as possible among my cosmetic “necessities”.

Travel-Friendly Minis

Typology Paris

Typology Paris: I’ve written about Parisian clean beauty, vegan brand Typology a number of times. How fortuitous that they sent me their new Travel Set that includes their iconic beige cotton pouch with travel size versions of five of their skincare products that are perfect for a pared down travel skincare routine! 99% of the ingredients are of natural origin, and 21% of the total ingredients are from Organic Farming.

Here’s what came in the recycled cotton travel bag:

1. Organic hydrating cleansing bar with palmarosa – 28g: A cold-processed face and body soap with 8% fatty acids that cleanses the skin both effectively and gently.

2. Hydrating serum 3% hyaluronic acid + 2% B5 – 6.5 ml: Rich in hyaluronic acid, known for its exceptional hydrating properties, this serum works to hold moisture in the skin.

3. 9-Ingredient face moisturizer – 15 ml: A minimalist formula with essential ingredients that support skin hydration.

4. Exfoliating toner 8% glycolic acid – 50 ml: A toner that removes traces of limescale left on the skin after cleansing with water. Rich in exfoliating actives, it also helps to refine skin’s texture and rid it of dead cells.

5. Organic purifying mask with charcoal nettle – 15 ml: This mask works to regulate sebum production, dry up blemishes, and purify the skin. Its clay-like texture leaves skin feeling soft and comfortable, without any dryness.

I’m already familiar with the Cleansing Bar and Hydrating Serum, and I love them both. I tried the 9-Ingredient Moisturizer, and it’s lightweight and wonderful! I look forward to using the Exfoliating Toner with 8% Glycolic Acid. Since the Organic Purifying Mask with Charcoal and Nettle with white and green clay is formulated for oily or combination skin that gets blemishes, I will put it aside and add it to my next giveaway.

The new Typology Paris Travel Set is priced at $44.85 on the Typology website.

KMS Moist Repair Shampoo and Conditioner

Because not all hotels provide color-safe shampoo, and none seem to provide conditioner, I take my own. Perfect timing to have received travel size versions of KMS Moist Repair Shampoo and Moist Repair Conditioner. They’ll work well for my dry hair since they hydrate and repair. On the Beauty Care Choices website, they are priced at $9.10 each.

Chella Beauty Good  Drama Mascara

I love mascara minis because I can actually use them up within the 3 month window that you’re supposed to use mascara before they go off. Fortunately, Chella Beauty Good Drama Mascara comes in a travel size. I love this lengthening and gently volumizing mascara! If you like colored mascara, they are just introducing three colored versions: blue, brown and burgundy. $13.

Mini Chella Velabeauty x Chella Blushing Rose Eyeshadow Palette

Look at this little cutie! It’s so adorable that I’m taking with me even though I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet. It’s a clean beauty palette, cruelty-free, vegan, and talc-free. Stay tuned for a review in the future. Mini Chella x Velabeauty Blushing Rose Palette is $20 on the Chella Beauty website.

Alleyoop 4-in-1 Makeup Brush

What a great travel beauty tool! Alleyoop 4-in-1 Multitasker contains four different beauty tools: a blending sponge, a slant blush brush, a slant eyeliner brush, a small eyeshadow blending brush. All four fit into this cool device.  The blending sponge is replaceable. $28.

Derma E Headband

Topix Pharmaceuticals just sent me this cute Derma E headband to wear when I take off my makeup and wash my face. I got another cute one from Luma & Leaf, but my head is too big to wear it. I just about make it with the Derma E headband. Jeff always says I have a big head, and he must be right 😉

Travalo Fragrance Atomizer

Travelo Refillable Perfume Spray

Marcia, who can’t wear fragrance, generously gifted me a handy Travalo travel perfume atomizer. I’ve had a few of them over the years. I just learned that now Travalo sells new inner chambers in case you want to change to a new scent without having the fragrance of the old perfume lingering inside. Travalos come in a few different models. The Classic Travelo that I have is quite affordable ($20 and under) and so handy. Right now, Nordstrom.com has some colors on sale for $12.97, a 35% discount. Plus Travalo now has lots of different collections with different style Travalos.

Glo Skin Beauty Stick Foundation

When I travel, it is so much easier to take a stick foundation rather than a liquid. Tube foundations aren’t bad for travel, but I currently am not using one that I love. On the other hand, I love love love Glo Skin Beauty Stick Foundation! It’s widely available for $48 in 12 shades. Each stick lasts a long time.

DIBS Desert Island Duo Blush/Bronzer Stick

DIBS that stands for Desert Island Beauty is the most impressive makeup brand I’ve come across in a long time. Their makeup products are designed for today’s busy women: they’re often multitaskers that you can throw into purse, gym bag or travel bag and don’t take up much room. They’re very pigmented, easy to apply and long-wearing.

The Desert Island Duo Stick has a blush on one end and a bronzer on the other end. It comes in 8 different shade pairs, and I was sent 3 of them. I need to write a full review on the three sticks with swatches soon. I’m taking the Out of Office/Vacay Vibes duo stick with me to Montreal. I love the coral blush, and although I don’t use bronzer, I use the light-medium warm brown as an eyeshadow crayon. The Desert Island Duo Sticks are a terrific product sold on the DIBS website for $32.

DIBS also sent me their new Palm Palettes, snack size versions of their wonderful eye shadow palettes that fit in the palm of your hand. I am taking Roses In Hand with me to Montreal. The other mini-palette is called Coffee. Again, I need to post a full review with swatches soon.

In the meantime, I was blown away by how pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing the shadows are. Plus they’re versatile because the shades are both universal and flattering.

I’m not sure if you have to buy both palettes together because they’re on the website as Palm Palette Bundle. The bundle is on sale for $66 right now.

YouthLab ProSculpt Gua Sha

When my Space Touch Vega was sent back to the company (I have since learned that I just didn’t know how to charge the device correctly), I missed it so much that I bought an inexpensive and more portable red light device during Amazon Prime Days. The YouthLab ProSculpt Gua Sha fits in the palm of my hand and weighs almost nothing. Perfect for travel!

It has several settings that provide red light, heat and vibration for massage and anti-aging skin benefits: firming, lessening of fine lines and wrinkles. On Amazon, the YouthLab ProSculpt Gua Sha is priced at less than $40.

Jones Road Eyeshadow Single

In the spring, Marcia kindly gave me several Jones Road makeup products. The eye products are much better than Bobbi Brown’s rather strange Miracle Balm face product. In fact, I especially love the two pressed powder eyeshadow singles that Marcia sent. They’re buttery, easy to apply and blend, and long-wearing. Though the two I have are variations on silver and gold, they are subtle, and I love them even more than the Jones Road cream shadow. Although I am taking more eyeshadow products than I need for this short trip, I can’t help but take the silver shimmer, Jones Road So Pretty, with me. $25

So, we’ll be in Montreal from Friday through Tuesday. I hope to have a post up by next Thursday, and if I have some great pix of Montreal, maybe I’ll get them up beforehand. Take care!

    1. Denise, thank you so much for your good wishes on our trip. I am so sorry that it took me so long to reply. I forgot the plug to my laptop and couldn’t use it while we were away. On Friday and Saturday in Montreal, it still felt like summer: sunny and warm. On Sunday – Tuesday, it both rained and poured. It was cool and chilly, ugh, but we made the best of it!
