Somehow I lost track of time. Even though I stopped at Dunkin’ Donuts for another heart-shaped donut, I didn’t realize that Valentine’s Day is this Saturday!
This week, Jeff is in New York on business, but he asked to take me out to dinner on Valentine’s Day. Hopefully, we’re going to try a new Indian and Himalayan restaurant that we’ve never been to before that’s about 25 miles away…if we don’t get another blizzard! So I want to be ready if we can make the trip!
I recently bought the Lorac Unzipped Gold shadow palette, and I am having fun playing with it.
I am usually a matte shadow gal, but this palette has the perfect combo for me of matte and shimmer shadows. The shimmers have a glow rather than a lot of glitter. Those of you who prefer neutrals will love this palette.
I started out creating a simple light and airy look by sticking with the lighter shades in the palette as well as lighter shades in the rest of my makeup. I think it’s a nice daytime or casual look that might be just enough for the casual Indian restaurant.
Here’s what I used:
Face
- IT Cosmetics CC Cream, Fair
- IT Cosmetics Powder Foundation, Fair
- Jordana Color Tint Blush Stick, 07 Baby Pink
Eyes
Usually, I would apply Urban Decay Anti-aging Eye Primer, but I forgot! I never forget but today I did. To be honest, the Lorac shadows started to fade after about 5 hours without the primer.
- Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eyeliner Pencil, Black Velvet on the upper waterline
- Estee Lauder Double Wear Eyeliner Pencil, Graphite along the lower lashline
- Lorac Unzipped Gold Eye Shadow Palette: Undressed: pale peach matte on the lid; Uninhibited, golden peach shimmer on the middle of the lid; Undeniable: milk chocolate brown matte in the crease and V
- Shiseido Lash Curler
- Too Faced Lashgasm Mascara
Lips
- Milani Anti-feathering Universal Lipliner
- Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Lipcolor in Infinite Petals, a mauve shade with a slight shimmer
So, I will be going with something like this for our casual Valentine’s Day celebration. I’ll be adding some glittery earrings and the handmade silk heart-embellished scarf that Jeff gave me a few years ago along with my new waterproof, insulated Keen hiking and snow boots!

Lovely look! I see you used an IT Cosmetics powder foundation too. As I have told you before I love their powder foundations.
Laura, I just bought the IT powder foundation during the Ulta coupon a few weeks ago. I bought Fair but I’m wondering whether it gives me a yellowy case that I see in the photo? I’m going to put it on and take a look today in the sunshine
That scarf is so chic, I love it! You look so great, you look glowy and your lips are totally amazing. These seems like such a versatile palette, but I’m currently trying to be good and not buy any eyeshadow palettes right now. LOL!

The LORAC palette is gorgeous, and I love the way that it looks on you, Allison! I know that you tend to gravitate toward matte shadows, but I love the glow of the shimmer shades on you so much!

I own light in the Anti-Aging Celebration powder foundation and medium in the Illuminating Celebration powder foundation. I swirl my brush over both to use. Either one by its self does not suit me well but both combined is just right.
I looked at your photo again (such a nice one) and do not see a yellow cast. But I agree sunlight is the best way to gauge how well your makeup matches your skin tone. I put my makeup on in front of a window. I have my makeup mirror and vanity set up there. Some days when I look in my mirror the glaring sunlight really depresses me. (I cannot help but be reminded of that line from the Rod Stewart song Maggie May…”The morning sun when its in your face really shows your age”) All I can say is Thank God for makeup. ha ha
I think it’s the Celebration powder foundation that I bought. I should have put that in the post. Interesting that you mix your two shades. Right now, I’m wearing Fair CC cream but in the summer I mix Fair and Light. I bought Medium in Bye Bye Undereye and at Ulta which has gigantic windows Medium looked like the right shade but now that I’ve owned it for more than 30 days, I realize I should’ve gotten Light. That’s so funny that you brought up “Maggie May”, Laura! I often think the same thing to myself 😉 Oh well, it beats the alternative 🙂 Happy Vday tomorrow and I hope you’re feeling better from your “ice skating”!!

My snow boots are from…um….maybe 1994? And they leak. Think I should maybe get some new ones? lol
Thanks, Rach! My boots were also from 1994, and I realized when my brother bought some new boots that my old-school boots were beginning to leak and that my feet were freezing. I can’t complain, 20 years is long enough. These Keen boots are great, so toasty warm!! On the weather front, we’re expecting the next blizzard to start on Saturday afternoon. The boy with the snowblower has gone away for the weekend, so my Vday night will be spent shoveling. Hope you have a good one <3

Because the blizzard started around dinnertime, we revised our plans yet again and went to a casual restaurant less than 3 miles from the house. Thanks, Bailey! I gave the Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hours lip color in Infinite Petals another chance because I also like the shade. Unfortunately, it dried the heck out of my lips and the color still didn’t last very long. I think it’s going into the lippie graveyard in spite of its prettiness 😉
