I’ve been reading lots of articles about the new trend in manis called “Milk” or milky manis. A milky mani is supposed to look like milk. In some articles, the key identifier is a translucent polish. In others, the polish can range from translucent to opaque.
This return to mani simplicity can encompass different styles of milk:
- plain old white milk
- chocolate milk
- strawberry milk
- blueberry milk.
I was in the mood to try a strawberry milk mani, but I’m not sure how successful I was. Anyway, it was fun to try.
As usual, I reached for my Olive and June polishes. I have a number of whites and off-whites, but I chose a milky, pale pink long-wearing polish called Pink Sands.
Frankly, Pink Sands is not actually a translucent polish, though I started out trying to get it to be. However, I didn’t use very thin coats which might have been more successful. Because I used thicker coats, I ended up using 3 coats of Pink Sands because one or two coats streaked.
So I ended up with an opaque strawberry milk mani, but I like it well enough.
I will try to pick up a translucent milky polish, if not from Olive and June, then from another brand. Because my hands are so busy gardening, baking, cooking, I need a simple mani for summer that I can easily redo. Milky manis may just be it.
