I was going to skip posting today, Friday, because summer Fridays can be slow. People are already starting their weekends. But when I discovered that today is National Lipstick Day, I couldn’t let the occasion pass by without mentioning an interesting experience I had the other day when I was wearing ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in the shade, Botanical.
This is one of the first lipsticks I tried from ColourPop, the super-affordable colorful and fun makeup brand that changes up its shades all the time to keep things fresh and interesting. Ultra Satin Lip is a liquid lipstick. I’m not always a fan of liquid lipsticks – they can be hard to apply, they can dry out my sensitive lips. But I have been pleasantly surprised by Ultra Satin Lip. The doe-foot applicator and the formula makes it quite easy to get a sharp outline. Plus, if I don’t have time to find a lipliner, it’s OK – Ultra Satin Lip doesn’t wander or feather on me. Yay! Also, the formula doesn’t dry out my lips.
Ultra Satin Lip is creamy when it’s first applied. So if you have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, you’ll definitely be seeing this lipstick on the rim of the cup or glass. I can live with that. After a while, it dries down and the remaining color lasts for a looooooooong time. In fact, when I wore it on Wednesday, the color lasted for 12 hours till I removed it with the fabulous Bioderma Hydrabio Micellar Water.
The shade I bought is Botanical, a bright peach that I think is a perfect summer shade.
Here’s a swatch that looks a bit darker and brighter than it really is. I think the photo of my lips is more accurate.
It’s also kind of a 1960s throwback shade. I know this shade isn’t for everyone. Frankly, I don’t think it’s a shade I’ve purchased before. I don’t wear it all the time, but when I do, I always get amazing reactions. For some reason, strangers smile at me and say hello. I’m floored by that! There must be something about this shade that is happy and different and that makes me seem more approachable than usual. It happened to me again on Wednesday. It was 93 degrees and super humid. I was wearing shorts and an old T-shirt when I went to the supermarket and a few other stores to do errands. I can’t tell you how many strangers smiled or said hi to me. Wow. Now that’s a lipstick!
ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip is available in 27 shades and is priced at $6. If you have trouble with liquid lipsticks, IMHO this line is worth a try!

That is such a bright shade and it’s gorgeous on you, I can see why you get a reaction when you wear it. I am hoping ColorPop will have free shipping code soon, the only reason why I have not placed an order is shipping can be really pricey and Canadian custom is known to charge duties on it. 🙁

Unfortunately, I didn’t have good luck with Frida, one of the regular lipsticks so I was happy that this one worked out for me. I’ll take a look at the metallics. I’d love a bronze if it’s in the Ultra Satin line!

I love the ultra satins. My fave is Panda. I also have Petit Four and Marshmallow because they were too fun to resist, but they are also a bit much for daily wear!

I have this and another ColourPop called Dohee. Botanical is mush brighter on me so I’ve been wearing Dohee more.
