Natural Skincare from New Zealand: Nudu Eye Cream and Konjac Sponge

One of the joys of being a beauty blogger is getting to experience lots and lots of new skincare brands and products that I would probably never known about. And one of the most important benefits of trying all these new-to-me skincare brands is that I’ve been introduced to better-for-you brands that are free of toxins that some of the mainstream brands that I had been using for years contain.

Enter Nudu Natural Beauty. Nudu was founded by Liana Ashenden PhD of New Zealand after she learned about the harm that toxins in some beauty products could do. After looking for safe and effective skincare products and coming up empty, she worked in conjunction with scientists and skincare experts to develop a new skincare brand. They “looked at every single ingredient for quality, effectiveness, and proven benefits to skin health and beauty.” The result of their hard work was Nudu Natural Beauty, products that have “beautiful natural scents, premium ingredients, proven botanical actives and powerhouse formulas that are safe and effective”. Dr. Ashenden believes, “Finally, you don’t have to worry about poisons while feeling beautiful.” That’s a relief!

  • no benzyl alcohol
  • no phenoxyethanol
  • no nanoparticles
  • no peroxides
  • no PEG
  • no harsh preservatives
  • no silicone
  • no synthetic perfumes
  • no artificial colors
  • no GMOs
  • no animal testing.

What Nudu skincare products do have are:

  • Pure, nourishing plant oils to reduce water loss.
  • Calming ingredients to sooth red and irritated skin.
  • Skin-friendly compounds for tone, softness and elasticity.

Sounds very promising!

I was sent new Nudu Eye Cream and a Konjac Sponge to try out.

Nudu Eye Cream

Nudu Eye Cream is thoughtfully packaged in an attractive pump bottle to protect the efficacy of the ingredients.

The eye cream is a medium weight but rich white gel-cream that is very gentle and very hydrating. It absorbs quickly and plays well with makeup. The eye cream feels wonderful on the dry, sometimes irritated skin in my crease and eyelid. It works well to hydrate the skin under my eyes and soften the look of my crow’s feet too. So hydrating and soothing!

Nudu Eye Cream doesn’t make any claims about reducing dark under eye shadows. Fortunately, I don’t have really dark shadows, so that’s OK with me.

The eye cream contains ribose and hyaluronic acid, humectants that hydrate the extra dry skin around my eyes. Plus it contains skin calming ingredients like cucumber and chamomile. <3

This is a lovely hydrating, gentle eye cream made with lots of naturals ingredients. It’s not too heavy and not too light. Just right.

Price $65 for 0.5 oz./15 ml.

Ingredients: Water, Camellia oleifera (Camellia) Seed Oil, Carthamus tinctorius (Safflower) Oil, Glycerine (humectant, holds water), Ribes nigrum (Blackcurrant) Oil, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol (moisturizing fatty alcohol, a natural emulsifier), Cetearyl Glucoside (natural emulsifier), Ribose (humectant, holds water), Hyaluronic Acid (humectant, holds water), Mixed Tocopherols (natural Vitamin E), Cucumis sativus (Cucumber) Extract, Matricaria recutita (Chamomile) Flower Extract, Actinidia chinensis (Kiwi) Seed Oil, Sodium Acrylate / Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer (emulsifier and thickener), Isohexadecane (emulsifier and thickener), Polysorbate 80 (emulsifier), Acacia Senegal Gum (film forming, smoothes skin), Hydrolyzed Rhizobian Gum (film forming, smoothes skin), Magnesium Aspartate (mineral), Zinc Gluconate (mineral), Copper Gluconate (mineral), Ascorbic Palmitate (stable form of vitamin C), Retinyl Palmitate (natural vitamin A), Gluconolacctone (humectant, holds water), Sodium Benzoate (preservative)

Cleansing & Exfoliating Konjac Sponge

I’m slightly embarrassed to say that I’m late to the party on konjac sponges. Because so many of the sponges seemed to be developed for oily skin, I’ve stayed away. Now I realize that I didn’t have to!

The konjac sponge I received from Nudu is made from 100% organic vegetable, and it doesn’t contain charcoal, the ingredient that is often added to help combat oily skin.

The first time I used it, I was a bit surprised by the sponge. I soaked it to soften the fibers. It seemed a bit rough. But when I used it a second time, the fibers softened a lot, and now I love it. It’s gentle and perfect for my somewhat sensitive skin.

Another thing that surprised me about it, is that it has a squishy, gel-like feeling as if there’s jelly inside. But nothing comes out so it must be the consistency of the konjac vegetable. At any rate, I really like it. I can tell it’s working because even after using my favorite Bioderma Micellar Water to remove my foundation, when I cleanse again with my cleanser I can see that the konjac sponge (that’s white) is removing what the MW missed. Yes! The Nudu Konjac Sponge is a keeper! It’s also great at gently exfoliating and cleaning my pores.

The sponge has a handy string attached so it can be hung to dry. The sponge lasts for about 3 months before needing to be replaced. Price $15.

Nudu Natural Beauty is manufactured in New Zealand, but it’s headquartered in the U.S. in Las Vegas. Importantly, their products come with a 60 day Guarantee. Check out Nudu Natural Beauty’s website to learn more about the brand and to see their complete skincare product line.

Are you familiar with Nudu Natural Beauty? Is it a skincare brand that you would try?

    1. Thanks so much, Priya, for visiting and commenting! Now I’m wondering if Nudu is sold in New Zealand?? The founder is from NZ and the products are manufactured there, but I think their headquarters is in Las Vegas!! I like these two products so if you do ever find them near you, hope you’ll consider them. The konjac sponge is particularly awesome, and the eye gel-cream is terrific too.
