This year, I didn’t get to see Daphne from Nature Island Botanicals at her outdoor booth in Stagefort Park overlooking the Atlantic Ocean at the summer Waterfront Festival in Gloucester MA.
Because of the pandemic, all but one of Daphne’s craft fairs were cancelled. It’s a tough year for small businesspeople of all stripes.

Daphne is having free shipping till Christmas this year since she’s unable to visit her family in Cali as she does most every year at this time. Instead, she’ll be in her studio in Rhode Island filling orders instead.
I re-ordered the delectable Caribbean Escape Body Butter (the body lotion that comes in a jar) that I have been buying for more than 15 years. This time, I chose a different scent of her lovely soap, Sweet Orange, Patchouli and Special Blend, and it smells great, and is as nourishing as always.
Lastly, I decided to try something new. For the past couple of years, Daphne has been making Organic Rose Absolute Whipped Body Butter. Like the Caribbean Escape Body Butter, it comes in a jar. But Rose Absolute Whipped Body Butter is quite different.
It’s made with:
- organic, fair trade, unrefined shea butter
- rose hip seed oil
- herbs infused in high oleic sunflower seed oil
- French pink clay
- arrowroot powder.
It has no added fragrance, and it has a faint scent from the rose absolute. But I would not call it “rose scented”.
Although this rich, thick, pale peachy-pink, whipped concoction is technically for your body, it can be used on the face and hands as well. The whipped texture makes it easy to apply. The combination of the shea butter, rose hip seed oil and sunflower seed oil make this the most nourishing body butter I have ever used. It leaves my hands and my skin feeling ultra-silky and smooth. If I have been outdoors in the cold or wind and my face feels parched, I will apply a little bit of Rose Absolute Whipped Body Butter to my face after cleansing at night. Right away, my skin drinks up the oils and has the smoothest feeling.
Because this whipped body butter is so rich, a very small amount goes a long way.
