Today, City Beauty is launching their first mascara. But this isn’t just another mascara. It’s a mascara and treatment product in one: a treatment for those of us with sparse, colorless, light, short, or brittle lashes. Plus it makes lashes look super dark, longer and thicker. It’s both volumizing and lengthening. To me, Beyond Mascara is the “City Lips of mascara”!
Here’s how City Beauty describes its new mascara:
“Beyond Mascara coats lashes in rich black pigment for visible length, thickness, and fullness — adding instant impact and dimension to your eyes. The hourglass-shaped brush grasps each lash from every angle for a fanned-out, wide-eyed appearance. Additionally, active ingredients work to support and hydrate lashes — resulting in a longer, denser, and thicker look over time.”
Beyond Mascara has ingredients that not all mascaras have, and it is these ingredients that help encourage healthier lashes:
- B Volume
Promotes thicker-looking lashes by supporting their structure, producing a volumizing effect. It also helps protect lashes by creating an antioxidant film around each strand. As B Volume diffuses into your lashes, they absorb more moisture — resulting in better hydration and a 70% volume increase.
- Panthenol
Promotes visible thickness by delivering a boost of nourishing vitamins to the lash strands and roots. Panthenol also helps protect lashes by coating and sealing follicles to lock-in moisture — resulting in softer, stronger lashes.
- Biotin
Supports healthy, voluminous lashes by helping the body absorb essential nutrients: fats, amino acids, and carbohydrates. Also known as Vitamin H, Biotin conditions eyelashes to help reduce visible lash fall-out. As a result, eyelashes appear thicker and denser over time.
- Hyaluronic Acid
Delivers rich hydration to support lash flexibility. Flexible lashes resist brittleness and breakage — giving you a softer, healthier look and feel.
- Keratin
Helps strengthen lashes, making them less prone to breakage. It works by coating the lashes in a protective barrier to help shield them from damage. As a result, lashes appear healthier and more volumized.
Beyond Mascara is quite different from the mascaras that I typically use. You know that I typically like small wands with the short plastic teeth, and I tend to favor thinner formulas that emphasis lengthening over volumizing. Nevertheless, I have had good results with Beyond Mascara.
The hourglass bristled wand is easy to manipulate, and it is the thicker formula than what I’m used to that makes my lashes look fatter. I don’t think there are fibers in the formula, but it gives the plumping that I associate with fiber mascara. Plus the color is super black. I have had no issues with flaking or clumping.
Interestingly, my lashes feel soft rather than crispy or stiff when I wear it!

City Beauty also makes City Lash, a growth and health serum for lashes, that I will post about in the future. Since I got it quite recently, I have only used it a couple of times. But so far, so good. No sensitivity from my super-sensitive eyes.
I’m scheduled for my second cataract surgery on Thursday so no mascara or lash serum for me for a while. Boo, but hopefully the results in my vision will be worth it. And hopefully, the surgery will go better this time since it is a different facility.

I really like the ingredients they included in the formula. They will certainly help nourish the lashes and help them grow longer and thicker.
